Chido Obi Martin

Such a lazy and easy thing to say. It’s the go to comment when discussing young players on Redcafe. It shows a real lack of knowledge on the group in question though.

It’s a long time since there was a crop of this quality all coming through at roughly the same time and there would need to be serious questions asked if only one of them makes it.

Not really lazy or easy. PL football is a different breed. Looking extremely talented at youth level is rarely an indicator of whether they will make it in the first team, the step up is massive, especially with the pressure that comes for playing at Man United on top.

Already I have seen an improvement in his ability to bring others into the game. I reckon the coaches are hammering this into him. There is no doubt he is an arrogant git but anyone who plays elite sport has that arrogance. I think ( and hope) that he will improve all aspects and we will have a superstar on our books ( along with a healthy bunch of the rest of them). I really like Igrabimov and Kukonki

Sounds like a Russian hooker describing her nights work.

Trying to guess the future is pointless.

This is a very talented group of players, and we are so far from the top that it is not that difficult to promote players in the current squad. We also have got a coach that likes to promote young players as well.

RVN, one of our all time best strikers, was definitely most interested in scoring goals. It all depends on how you set up your team. Preferable to have a Messi for sure, but there aren't that many of them around. If there is one thing our team is crying out for, it is a player that regularly scores goals.
Exactly. Of course there are situations where a player should have passed but United have missed that gaol machine for a while now as you say. Not saying he is first team ready yet but it’s like his determined to score and we should be cultivating that energy.

Scored for Denmark U18s but they lost the game 2-1.

He is not incorrect though - it's completely unrealistic to think that 5-6 players from the same generation should make it. That has happened once before in the last 60 years or so - and that was a completely different era where our biggest opponent used players like John Beresford, David Batty, Darren Peacock, Steve Watson and Robbie Elliott and when we were the best team in the country with an experienced manager.

Sure we might get 4-5 of these players into the squad - but if you are looking for first-team regulars you are probably talking at best an average of 1 pr year.

Completely depends how its done. Clubs like Ajax do it all the time. Its about the process, the talent is there but if we squander it, its possible none of them make it at United. Doesnt mean they wont have an impressive career though like Angel Gomes doing well for England when he's had the chance

You can't really compare Ajax and Man United. Ajax will be up against PSV and Feyenoord. I doubt a single player from those 2 teams would get into the first-team of the best clubs in the Premier League. They can afford to give these players a chance - if I tried the same against City or Liverpool - we would be destroyed.

He looks more physically imposing, but otherwise what makes him different from McNeil?

On this whole debate about youth players... Seeing our links to Nypan and several posters saying he's good but not quite there yet, I wondered how many of our more promising youth players would have as much hype had they been playing 1st team in a weaker league from a younger age. A few I reckon.

I reckon more youngsters will get a chance if the 1st team is functioning well. It's easier to give youth minutes if the other 10 players are doing their job well.

I think you can compare when we're 13th and finished 8th last season

Ajax would have done better than that whilst blooding lots of young players

If we were 2nd or 3rd sure, thats when its hard to have 6 or 7 very young players in the team. Thats why some young players left Arsenal and why Cole Palmer left City. But we arent there and our young players, if brought through correctly, can help us get there and then we can face that conundrum.

Yes and no.

You could argue that when you are doing well and competing for titles, playing youngsters poses a risk that you might drop crucial points. Look at Arsenal, they’ve been in and around the top trying to sustain title challenges and as a result have hardly introduced any new young players via their academy in the last 2 or so seasons before this one. We on the other hand have had a bunch of underperforming 1st teamers so it was actually easy for us to give players like Garnacho and Mainoo meaningful minutes so young.

Don't think so. When the team is playing well and feeling confident, there is a higher chance of bringing in youngsters.

When he’s ready, he’s ready but League cup is the fitting competition to ease him in imo. Wont gain confidence or perform if he’s thrown in the Premier League straight away I think.

Also the pressure to perform when in the first team is out of this World (See Højlund). Very few people can handle that at this age (he’s 16!), but Amorim probably has a good feel for this.

The League cup is out of question this season now, we have Spurs and then if we go through its the semis. I would assume that if he is good, Amorim will see this and maybe use him in the Europa League?

Otherwise he wont be used this season as I dont believe he is ready to make the step yet.

As a sub it’s not imo. It’s just the league cup. Even against Spurs or in the semis there should be room for this. Who knows, getting time against Spurs might be a great motivator/be a great experience for a guy like him. Also FA Cup early stages or Europa League as a sub should be decent options.

Yeah I get what you are trying to say but when you look at the context Manutd sit in right now...

New manager meaning he will give the senior players a clean slate as much as he can.. so say he starts a team against Ipswich and we win, he will most likely stick to the team.

Meaning the players not playing will get a chance in Europa / League cup whilst Amorim gets to know who is good or not.
