Chido Obi Martin

He did forgive Ibragimov about two minutes later though. So I think that's pretty much normal for a hungry striker.

Yeah we can't have a situation where his selfishness could drive a wedge between teammates

Have you seen Zhirkzee's record at that level at the same age? At Bayern Munich II, he scored 6 goals in 32 appearances. You cannot teach the instinct for goal scoring and deadly finishing.
If you are going to make comparisons, at least make the right ones.

Zirkzee at u17 bayern: about 1600 minutes played over 19 matches, 16 goals en 9 assists.

Year later at the U19: 12 goals en 2 assists in 1034 minutes. Also playing at Bayern II that year scoring 4 goals and giving 4 assists in 678 minutes, helping them with the promotion to the 3th Liga.

So he did impress in his youth years just like Chido will likely do. Youth is very different than professional football.

You are somewhat lost. I made the comparison because the poster suggested Zhirkzee would score more if he also played at that level as a senior player. Either way, Zhirkzee's record is unimpressive as a senior player, something Chido has not had the opportunity yet to showcase.

Looks like he is putting plenty of work into his goal celebrations
When he scored his hat-trick we saw the cupped ears and the knee slide and now we have seen the Ronnie jump.
I am not sure if this is a good thing or not.

Sure he has to do something to keep busy when everyone else is practicing passing.

Practice on his heading wouldn't hurt and it would give him an advantage over most CFs playing at the moment.

Probably is a good thing because he's clearly scoring a lot of goals ;)

His size gets cited a lot, but since being here, it has been nothing to do with anything. He plays a clean, elusive and intelligent game and more often than not, his actions are completed by initially making the space to execute whatever it is he is doing be it passing or shooting.

His movement and shooting as well as certainty of purpose, stand out well before his size. It’s actually great that he’s got size and aggression in his locker as a future asset, but those things, particularly his size, are not the cart drawing the horse here.

A big question is whether he is this smart and aware against better defenders, or will he remain so as he goes up the levels. Would be great to see him in training against the 1st squad where we have a broad spread of differing CB archetypes for him to learn how to deal with.

But yeah, he’s scored a fecktonne in his young career because he’s simply very good for his age, not because he’s donkeying through waifs and massively physically advantaged, so that narrative needs binning as it’s not a thing despite the size of him.

Amorims youth player? Each manager after Fergie have all had their 1 player they’ve brought up from the youth.

Don’t know if you could read too much into this, but that and his reactions to having a goal “stolen” lately give me a hint of arrogance which is not always bad with footballers and arguably you need some of it, but we’ve been rather bad lately taming the egos of great youth prospects, so I’m a bit worried.

Nonetheless our youth have looked nothing but stellar for a while now, shown by the results, and Chido is easily among the biggest talents in the country. Can’t wait to see more of him and hope Amorim promoted him swiftly

Personally I think that reaction from him was too much for a lad his age. The muted celebrations from him when somebody else scores I don't like either. Throw in leaving Arsenal in the first place and I think this is a young man with a hefty opinion of himself.

The club will have their work cut out keeping him grounded. You can just tell.

Yeap. I get that same vibe too.

Remember in the old days when Fergie wouldn't even allow the academy players to have coloured boots?

Different times.

I feel like Amorim is going to have a lot to choose from in this respect.

Amass, the Fletchers, Mantato, Ogunneye, Thwaites, Ibragimov, McAllister, Williams, Lacey, Scanlon, Lusale, Koné, Obi and Biancheri - I’d be surprised if 2 or 3 of these lads don’t make a mark on the first team.

The same rule still exists in our academy. I believe it used to apply to U18s and younger and now it’s for younger than U18s.

Hard to enforce the rule when u18 games are now televised to an extent and most players already having a sponsorship deal in place when in the u18s, plus many have a big social media following.

A lot of U16s, U14s etc. players already have a deal with Nike, adidas etc.

So it’s not that hard. I don’t think we miss out on any signings or lose any of our players because of the rule. But I do agree that it’s a very different time to the 90s regarding the things you said.

He still has a lot to learn for those wanting him at the first-team level - well maybe not compared to our strikers - but compared to a normal decent striker :) He will score a lot of goals - but he also so focused on finishing himself, he will squander a lot of good chances but not setting up team-mates in better positions. Once he gets that experience - we might have something really special on our hands

As to how big he is - I would guess 6'5 or something like that

nike can't make black boots anymore?

Because they have sponsorship deals from such a young age, who will have all the say which boots the players wear.

Kai Rooney, for example, has a Puma deal but he wears black adidas boots. I don't think they really care at this age.

I personally don’t see the real issue with his hunger for goals at the minute. A well rounded game is preferable of course but I like that he wants to score all the time. It’s not like we’ve not seen him pass to other players in goal scoring positions or that other players don’t take the selfish/wrong option either.

I’m sure if he has attitude issues it’ll be addressed. It’s not like we’ve not taken a firm line with top talents before.

Sources say Obi-Martin stands to be paid weekly wages into the tens of thousands once he turns 17 at the end of this month and signs a professional contract.

-From the Athletic.

Did anyone expect him to be on under 10k/week?

Already I have seen an improvement in his ability to bring others into the game. I reckon the coaches are hammering this into him. There is no doubt he is an arrogant git but anyone who plays elite sport has that arrogance. I think ( and hope) that he will improve all aspects and we will have a superstar on our books ( along with a healthy bunch of the rest of them). I really like Igrabimov and Kukonki

We will be lucky to have more than one that makes it as a full fledged member of the first team. Many talented youth players fail to make the step up to the first team permanently. The step up is huge.

RVN, one of our all time best strikers, was definitely most interested in scoring goals. It all depends on how you set up your team. Preferable to have a Messi for sure, but there aren't that many of them around. If there is one thing our team is crying out for, it is a player that regularly scores goals.

More than 1 of them will make it. Not sure you realize how talented this bunch players coming through currently is.

We have always had an extremely talented team in the academy, but performing at that level is a completely different level to performing in first team football.

Many extremely talented players have failed to make the step up. It will be the same with this bunch.

No, it won't.

No, it won't.

It's hard not to be excited about this current crop, they're great, but... this has all been said before.

The 2000-2002 group of players were extremely promising but not a single one of them is still in the first-team. However, it was still a massively successful group as loads of them are currently playing at really high levels.

1-2 players from the current group becoming first-team regulars would be a fantastic outcome. Anything more is simply unlikely.

No, it won't.

Okay then  I don't think you realise how hard it is to translate academy ability to PL level.

Every year people talk about 7 or 8 academy players that will all make it, and every year only 1 does. It will be even harder for them if Amorim gets the team performing better, the youth players will struggle more to get into a better team

Such a lazy and easy thing to say. It’s the go to comment when discussing young players on Redcafe. It shows a real lack of knowledge on the group in question though.

It’s a long time since there was a crop of this quality all coming through at roughly the same time and there would need to be serious questions asked if only one of them makes it.
