Chelsea under Conte | Let's sign the next Hazard, literally.

Think you are trying to be sarcastic but that is indeed true. At about 10 diff times during the game yesterday, I followed Baka around for his movement and I was positively surprised. Mentioned exactly this in initial reaction to him last night.

Now I have been very critical of the club's lack of ambition by signing Bakayoko instead of trying to sign someone established like Verratti or maybe one of Kroos/Kovacic. But looking at Bakayoko yesterday did allay some of my fears about his ability (though its just one game so it can all go tits up still).

I wasn't sarcastic, he was barely involved and had poor game.

 You gotta hand it to him. United fans are fickle because they rate Matic based on his performances and Mourinho for doing well at the club. On the other hand, AshfordLad is the paragon of consistency having rated Jose as the best when he was at Chelsea but turns out he now thinks he was always past it.

Chelsea fans opinion on Jose was laughable, from the best in the world to past it.
"a bit dated" doesn't mean saying he is past it. That's just some of the united lot here trying to over-rate Jose, the same way they under rated him when he was Chelsea.

Conte has been managing since 2006, longer than Guardiola. You must be upset about that, surely? According to you such managers are worn out by the grind by this point.

You have this strange need of having the obvious stated to you. Yes Conte had a job before then, Mourinho had a job before then. Every 40 year old manager has job before that age. It was obvious from my posts I meant the grind of top level management. You can continue being in denial anyway.

This is fair. Perhaps it's a consequence of us building a stadium (or maybe Roman's latest divorce) but it seems the boss is somewhat reluctant to splash the cash to the extent that he did in the past. After all, we are sitting on a considerable transfer surplus from the Oscar deal.

What I would say also though is that I'm not sure why Bakayoko is getting so poorly rated on the Caf at the moment. This isn't a critique of you personally, @CM10 , it's just a bit odd to me. I think the CL semi tie last season against Juve is sticking out a bit in people's minds-yes he wasn't influential in those matches, but a big part of that was because Allegri specifically designed his gameplan to bypass Monaco's midfield and play through the wings.
I don't think he is a bad player so much, the point I was trying to convey was I don't think he'll be nearly as influential for you as Matic could be for us if both play at their best. If we're making direct comparisons between the Matic and Bakayoko deals I think United have come off stronger.

Having said that, I agree with your assessment of him being a better fit for the Chelsea system than Matic. It's also far too early for people to be judging Bakayoko after one game (against Spurs) where he clearly wasn't 100%.

 I find it pretty amusing that you think such a bizarre opinion is 'obvious'. I guess each of our managers will be worse a year on from now, as the grind of top level management has worn them away further and made them dated. If only we could all have them back when they were completely fresh with no experience at all. They would have been so much better.

nope, he has a touch of narcissistic sociopathy about him. Think he turns it on like pressing a button...

I think you're right. When I heard it on Friday or whenever I thought it was genuine, but I have just been listening to the Debate podcast from Friday and it was on again, and after listening to it a couple of times again I've changed my mind. Certainly seemed forced and almost pained to come across that way. Would have made more sense to have a chuckle and move on. There are certain things he has said or done this summer too that make me think he is certainly a bit of a loose cannon as well. Good win for them yesterday but I can't see him lasting the season there.

But I still did have a chuckle when I heard it at the time

Definitely contrived for me. I think he's a weirdo.

Not worse but dated, Yes. I am totally flummoxed you fail to understand (or are in such denial). New ideas will trump old one and few established managers are able to come up with new ideas constantly. You really are getting weirder and weirder by the post.

Apart from last season, all the PL winning managers are managing from years.

His theory is that the grind of top level management causes a manager's ideas to become dated. Somehow applying those ideas at smaller clubs keeps them fresh.

There are lot of holes, fresh ideas don't come only from manager, whole coaching team works together. We see managers taking his bunch of staff to every club.

Yeah, most of the points looked completely wrong to me, like ignoring Conte's start of his managerial career but somehow only considering his time from Juventus.

I am so disappointed we kept Fergie for all those years. He was clearly burned out and over the hill after his first two or three titles

There seems to be a lot of personal hatred (namecalling, wanker, serial killer, sociopath, etc) towards Conte.
What has brought this on?
Because he won the title last season?

Not interested in the name calling but he's annoying. His antics on the touchline irritate me. Foul his player and he behaves like his dog got Killed.

Combination of Conte winning the title last season and Mourinho finishing 6th with United.

It's called bitterness.

You got your combination wrong!

The fact that his antics along the touchline was annoying, the way he handled Costa's situation and the fact he has a bad row with Jose.

Actually don't find him as annoying as Klopp. Conte doesn't seem like the type who is into touchline theatrics for show, he really is a hard b**tard.

Then again, I don't have any animosity with Chelsea at all. They managed to screw Liverpool in 13/14 and their ruthless winning mentality is something we out of all other clubs have a lot in common with, bar Moyes and LvG second season (actually think LvG had a bit of ambition and steel in his first season, it all went south the next).

Poets can do worse than that shaming rivals. Herd mentality.

I don't really feel anything toward Conte, I just think he's a bit nuts. He's got that madness in his eyes, like he's planning a slow and painful death for Costa whilst simultaneously thinking up a romantic getaway to Tuscany with his wife.

 Even Jose is called every name under sun, Pep, Klopp, Wenger are no exceptions either.

Think this is spot on. Agreed 100%.

Maybe it's just me but I absolutely love his antics on the touchline. So what if he celebrates like he's won the world cup after every goal? I run around my house when we score or go wild at OT. It's pure passion and unlike a certain other manager, I'm fairly sure it's genuine.

True but for example where in DM you had Herrera and you now have Matic, its a much better fit for the type of player you need ours is the same. Matic didn't bring the things we needed in the middle like pace mobility drives with the ball etc.

Plus matic makes pogba better, and I think kante not having to cover as much ground due to bakayoko actually having pace is similar and will make him better.

Yeah I think both teams have improved relative to what they need but in Chelsea's case they've also significantly strengthened a title rival.

Why do all the Chelsea fans keep saying Matic has no power and drive with the ball?

Unless I've been watching the wrong player I've seen him stretch his legs a few times so far at United as he looks very competent with the ball at his feet.

Calling a United fan bitter after they have known nothing but success for over 2 decades is rather odd. Think about it.

I don't hate Conte, but I did find his touchline celebration for Alonso's second a tad excessive. Celebrating a late winner is one thing, but physically assaulting certain members of Chelsea's bench is going a step to far.

I would have cried rape if I were on the end of that.

It's not that he has none but I personally wouldn't say it's a strength of his game. He averaged less than a dribble per match last season. He used to do it quite a bit more so if he is back to that level then fair play (and part of the reason for this might be that he's more comfortable breaking from deeper positions).

yeah he was like that last year to.
I remember him trying to whip the crowd up when we played at Stamford Bridge when it was 4 nil.
Can't wait for the house of cards to fall
