Chelsea reach agreement to sign Cesc Fábregas

So am I getting this right?
We tried last year when he wasn´t available.. But didn´t get him. Now when he´s available for less money we don´t want him?
Either I don´t understand this anymore or mr Woody doesn´t.. How the hell wouldn´t we want Cesc in or midfield with Clev,Fletch and Carrick there?

Have you considered the possibility of him turning us down?

How does this compare to them picking up Ballack and Shevchenko?

With the exception of that squad already being a back to back champion, and pretty much the best team in Europe of course.

If they sign Diego Costa, Cesc and Filipe they are imo clear PL favorites and can also compete with Real, Bayern for the CL. Mourinhos 2nd season is always strong, so even if they only sign Costa they would be my favorites. I still hope this is not true and he ends up at United, but if you have the choice atm between Chelsea and us, I think most players would join Chelsea.

I think Fabregas is going to Chelsea. If he's going to a club other than Arsenal, Chelsea is the more attractive option with CL football and better squad.

I strongly believe that if he is going to Chelsea he will have an agreement with Roman that Mourinho will play him most of the time at least. I just don't see him as a Mourinho signing and if this is the case then I wouldn't be surprised if Fabregas lasts longer at Chelsea than Mourinho.

So what you are saying is, it would be better if Moyes was still here?
;)

Missing out on CL may have cost us here if cesc rejected us.

He hasn't rejected us, we're not in for him.

No way would he pick Mourinho and Chelsea over United, CL or not.

That's a lot of conviction about something you have pretty much no clue about.

It's utterly mad.

Last year most of our fans thought it was a brainlessly impossible move. Ignoring that the change of manager right in the middle of it was the utterly decisive thing.
Now, they're basically offering him around, and we seemingly aren't interested, mentally thinking there's someone better out there available?!

Not looking good.

Obviously someone will point out we're only in the first week of June, but then obviously there's a 3 week minimum shut down.
Then, don't worry, it's only the first week of July.
Don't worry, we still have a week left etc

If this summer's transfers is another chasing and failing/rejection/last minute cases, and Cesc was actually available from Barcelona, it would annoy the hell out of me. I don't see any better midfielders for United available at the moment, and this guy is world class. This is my personal reason for being 'potentially' angry at the club's transfer policies.

So we spend an entire summer chasing this player 12 months ago and the failure to secure him more the likely cost the club CL football this season. Once available we show zero public interest which these days generally means zero private interest either. A creative midfielder of world class ability and proven in the PL since the age of 16. A winner on the biggest stages. Hitting his prime footballing years and relatively lightly played in the previous few years. Exactly what we have needed for so long. I dont know Van Gaal's plan right now but come the end of the window should we not sign such a player he'll be starting on the wrong foot in the minds of a large percentage of fans who will suggest World Cup preparations with Holland distracted him. Strange showings from United thus far in the window and no statements of intent from a club without CL football and no chance of competing with several clubs for the top players.

It will take only one tweet from a reliable source (Ogden/Taylor) that we are about to sign (x) player, and all this negativity at the moment will be forgotten.

The likes off kroos/fabregas etc are still available. No deal is done yet, so let's just Waite and see before blaming van gaal or our transfer dealings.

I'm not panicking. I would just like to think given our club is dire need of players of world class ability we would be moving early and swiftly when ones becomes available. Kroos is muppetry on a completely different level at a club where everyone wants to keep him and no doubt its only cash negotiations being played out. If there's a better CM than Cesc out there this summer with proven PL ability that comes available I'll eat my own face.

I didn't suggest that you are panicking. Just like you most off us are worried with lake off activity in transfer market. As you probably know that it's not about the football as a sport anymore, it's more like a money making project/module. My point is, woodward will try his best to get the signings done and make sure that we are in much decent shape next season. A United outside top 4 is off not much use to glazers, that's why I believe woodward will make some top signings, There is too much financial risk involve for them not to.

There's a really strong chance that he might have.

He has lived in London before is comfortable in the city, and probably still has a home there. Chelsea can match any wage that we can offer him and top it off with CL from the first season.

Chelsea are in a stronger position to win the league and in Europe than we will be for the next few years.

Easy decision.

Didn' Pique "let slip" that the deal is as good as done? Yes we're guessing it's Chelsea it's done with. But it seems very likely its over.

If we were turned down then fine.
If we didn't try and get involved, I'm flabbergasted.

But not Fabregassed.

Also, we shouldn't be thinking we've got till the end of August. In reality we need players signed by the start of the season, in fact ahead of that so that they can be integrated into the squad, the team set up and drilled with the new players, etc. If not, by the end of August we could be already facing an uphill battle for the title.

One strange thing about that convo for me is the fact the del bosque didn't ask the obvious question. When someone is giving you inside info of a deal, the first question you will ask is which club is he going? He didn't ask which is making me think it was a staged convo tbh.

Decent read, I agree with pretty much all of it (don't think Cesc played false 9 or out on the left as much as he said but that's my only gripe).

About the 'bad apple' rumour - I heard that too, but surely if Tata thought that of Cesc he wouldn't have gave him more appearances than anyone else in the squad bar Busquets?

Among the many reasons perhaps why Tata himself resigned

I still don't buy this. Him and Piqué, sat in front of cameras and microphones and decided that was a good place to discuss something they wanted to keep confidential? I find it too weird. It's not like they're inexperienced with the media.
Slowly but surely getting annoyed on how this summer is developing transfer wise.
me too. I've no right to complain though as I've spent most of the last few weeks telling people on here to be patient and that we still have ages to buy players. I can't deny it's been a bit disappointing that we didn't hit the ground running in this window though.

You're not alone, it's weird in many ways. Let's also not forget Piqué is an accomplished poker player as well, it begged of being a windup. But Del Bosque? I can't see him being involved in something like this whether it was intentional or accidental, just wouldn't reflect the savvy gentleman that we've come to know. Yet, here we are

I thought he was poor in key matches regardless of the stats but the most telling, for me, is that two coaches who knew him as well as a Catalan midfielder can know him and as long as they have for what is needed at the club, in Tito & Pep, sat him in the key stretches. Plus, if you believe the rumour that the bad apple Tata told Zubi about on his exit was indeed Cesc then his exit was virtually assured

Great rant on Cesc's time at Barcelona

I don't like Fabregas in particular, but that reads like scapegoating. It was still Guardiola and the Barcelona board who initially wanted him to come back, wasn't it? They could have known that he wasn't needed as a starter. At least I remember it that way, that he wasn't the signing Barcelona needed at the time. He can't be responsible for that many mistakes, which are out of his control.

I'm so suspicious of the whole thing, though I can't figure out an agenda. The way they were giggling throughout the whole exchange was odd as well. Even if Piqué wanted to tell Del Bosque what he did, he wouldn't have done it there. I don't buy it at all.

I wish the NSA would release all the conversations between the players, their agents and the football clubs, they could open a hell of a football transfer speculation blog.

Pretty sure it isn't a joke on their part, they're trying their best to be as quiet as possible. Still, very strange place to discuss such a thing...
