Chelsea reach agreement to sign Cesc Fábregas

They're not "bellends" for having legitimate concerns about our apparent reluctance to engage in talks with Fabregas' camp regarding this transfer. He's a world-class creative midfielder, proven in the Premier League and would be willing to join for a very reasonable fee. I refuse to see what its wrong with having concerns about this when the other names we're now being linked with are relative unknowns outside the Dutch league.

Not a racism issue either, by the way. It's genuinely worrying that van Gaal isn't keen on Fabregas when he's exactly the type of midfielder we should be targeting.

Cant agree with that. I'd rather we get a Vidal/Strootman than a Fabregas.

I am siding with the idea that's his agent again spreading muck.

The pair of them can do one.

We'll probably end up overpaying €30m for Enzo Perez who'll turn out not to be good enough. We'll expect to sign Strootman in the Winter but As Roma will turn us down and we won't get him either. Than we'll likely go through the same shit next summer.

Fully expecting us to compleltey ruin this transfer summer and have a very frustrating season again. I'll be happy if we manage to get back into the top 4, but I'am ready to give up on the hope of ever becoming a real top team again in the near future. It is very clear the priorities of the management are not focussed on sportive success, rather on maintaining useless traditions and signing high value commercial deals (not that anything is wrong wiith the commercial deals ofc), clearly signing top players isn't very high on their list, and if it is, then clearly they haven't gotten the right people/system in charge to make it happen. This club has always been about dithering and doubting, delaying problems to the next year and we are paying the price of such kind of transfer conduct (every team and their dog overtake us in the speed of doing deals, and we're left with the scraps). Highly likely we'll go trough 2 or 3 really difficult barren years, then perhaps if the Glazers sell us after that difficult period and some new owner puts in place another management we could come back to being a top club again, that or we'll end up being our own kind of sleeping giant (that constantly fecks about and screws up the most simple things) for the next couple of decades like Liverpool have been. It is starting to become very clear the Manchester United dynasty/era has come to an abrupt end or is seriously in danger of ending (with no capable people in charge to stop it).

Fully expected the club to make a statement of intent in transfermarket as soon as the season was over, fully expected some deals to be ligned up and finalised before the world cup. But we are just completley passive and are overtaken again by all other teams in the market. Fully expect that almost none of the top players we could have signed will still be available after the world cup, we'll be lucky to end up overpaying for 2nd or 3th choice in the midfield and we'll be lucky to land Shaw as the only overpaid consolation player (altough I expect we'll feck that one up aswell somehow).

I hate this club and transfer windows

Well, at least you're not over reacting.

I never said we should stop at signing one midfielder...

It's well documented two central midfielders are necessary: a creative one and another box-to-box type.

I dont believe we can get 2 top ones in unfortunately. So I'd rather the one we get be a more rounded CM. In any case, I'd rather both our CMs be solid to provide a perfect platform for the front 4.

Cant agree with that. I'd rather we get a Vidal/Strootman than a Fabregas.

Honestly to sort our problems in midfield out we should be trying to get Fabregas and Strootman or Vidal. Last season was pathetic and showed just how bad our problems are, I don't think Carrick, Cleverley or Fletcher should be in our starting 11 next season so it's not like we haven't got room for Fabregas. We all know how good he is at CM so considering we don't have any players as good in that position I can't really understand why we're not interested myself but it's obviously to do with van Gaals system and he doesn't see room for Fabregas and has other targets in mind. Either that or we are actually interested but we're simply saying we're not to save face because he would rather go to Arsenal or Chelsea.

Cesc was fantastic at Arsenal, for such a young age he was putting in top performances every week. Barca have killed him tbh, Guardiola signed him and he was barely getting a run in the team due to Xavi and Iniesta. I would let Xavi take a back seat now and give Cesc the playing time he deseves but it looks he is on his way out. Big mistake if you ask me.

I don't think it's a big mistake to let him go, contrary to popular belief he did get plenty of opportunities to prove that he was capable of replacing Xavi but never looked capable of it. I guess at this stage they're fed up of his performances dropping after Christmas and I think it's best for Cesc himself if he moves on too.

Big mistake to let him go at that price though, I'm not sure who they could get that would be either a better fit for their side or a better overall midfielder should they plan on changing their tactics.

Am surprised that we were not interested in Fabregas unless we have an absolute corker of a central midfielder lined up already. But there are only a handful of better ones in the world and none of them are available like Cesc was.

Just like last season then? I fully support Woody, IF the reason we arent interested is because they ran us around last season. It would also be understandable if LvG doesnt think he'd fit in.

Jose Mourinho has confirmed Chelsea's interest in Cesc Fabregas, but says he won't be signed before the World Cup.

"I am interested in studying the situation of Fabregas. Guess he is eager to leave the Barcelona and motivated to return to England.
Now, if you will sign for Chelsea or another club, this issue is not for today nor tomorrow, nor before the World Cup, "said Mourinho.

That's it then. He's Chelsea bound imho. Mourinho would not have publicly declared interest if they weren't confident about signing him.

sucks for us.

When he officially signs for Chelsea I hope we take a minute to laugh at peterstorey

He's never right is he, bless him.

Ofcourse I wouldnt mind him, he's a top player. But as I said to nahealai, I dont see us signing 2 top CMs so if we're getting just 1, I'd rather it be a more rounded CM.

The ironic thing is, Woodwards bids last year don't seem too ridiculous in line with this years price. It's just a shame that he was a year ahead of his time.

I honestly couldn't care less for Cesc. I'd probably rather Bastian to him, and going after him this summer I think would be mostly just because a big name midfielder is available.

If we have the money I'd start at Koke / Vidal and work down from there. Oh, and sign Mateo Kovaciç of course.

It doesn't seem as ridiculous now does it? United definitely had encouragement from somewhere

Most sensible thing I've read on the caf in ages. These 3 are definitely worth their investment.

Good player but don't understand all the whining here

No? Not the fact that a top class centre mid is available, for a decent fee, and we seemingly aren't even bothering to get involved?
You must have big faith in who we apparently after.

Koke and Vidal would never leave their clubs this summer, not a chance. Kovacic is another story but he won't solve our current problems at all.

We must have had encouragement to go so strongly for it, but then I wonder if we did have such strong encouragement from Cescs camp then why are we not getting the same encouragement this year? Okay we miss out on a guaranteed 1 years worth of champions league, but if he was prepared to sign for Moyes then surely he'd still be interested in signing for the team that so openly courted him last summer and now has a world class manager along with an extra Spanish player in the team.

Let's see how this all pans out, but if it's true that LVG doesn't want him, then I just hope we land someone decent because it's not often that world class players become so readily available and relatively cheap.

That's not exactly the first post on the caf in favour of signing Koke or Vidal! In fact I don't think you'll find anyone on here who wouldn't love us to sign them. Problem is they are as good as unattainable.

I think he was touted around this summer but he no longer fits our plans. We will just have to wait and see what LVG has planned

If its official that arsenal have refused to exercise their buy back option does that not suggest barca have an offer on the table they are willing to accept hense they had to give arsenal the opportunity to match it?

If so my guess is things will move quick... ie before the world cup

I hope its us but wont be gutted if not

Don't worry , the deals are in place , were just waiting for the World Cup to end then we will pounce like a Bengal tiger ;) . Nobody's mentioned Barkley yet !!!

Most likely! Van Gaal is a manager who wants player who can play on his system, not neccesarily the best players.

I've not followed this much it makes sense. Our central midfield has slowly rotten into some stinky abomination and we've not improved it for what seems like, and probably is, ages. And fabregas is a top top midfielder who is seemingly available. Other clubs seem to keep signing top midfielders yet we haven't for years and years.

Fair play there are some whiny tarts here these days! There are months of the window to go and we have no idea what the new gaffer is thinking, chill out or you will miss the start of the new season whilst recovering from your breakdowns!

Are you OK?

I'd be happy with Kovaciç and Strootman myself :D

He's a good player and wouldn't be disappointed if he came however I'd question his motivation to be here. There are some negatives associated in the signing as he's left his boyhood club and can't return to his second choice. Not sure what mentality he's returning back to England with.

I can see him going to Chelsea.....

He also probably knew about Fabregas messing us about last year and probably thought f-off to him.

yea, at bayern he had van bommel manning the ship in MF. Having said that i am getting a bit worried. If shaw is the only big name we sign, i would be apprehensive.

I think we need a big MF signing who can also deliver just to boost the morale of the club.

Really?

I think Van Gaal may be doing the ferguson approach, wherein you go after players who want to come to the club. And if the player wants to barter with the buying club regarding wages or if the selling club themselves are looking for the best deal, ignore them completely.

ferguson always stepped aside if a bigger fish came in for the player he wanted, because he knew it would look desperate if you started engaging in a bidding ping pong match.

Id say van gaal is kind of the same. At the expense of a great player you gain the respect of the players you have. Never look desperate
