Chelsea reach agreement to sign Cesc Fábregas

TBF most are basing Cesc's ability and style of play from his time in England when he was one of the best midfielders in the world.

Fact is he's had 3 relatively underwhelming seasons at Barca where his position has constantly been changed and he's nowhere near hit the heights. His stock has definitely fallen.

It's not so surprising that the clubs here in England would be reluctant to pay the hefty transfer and wage fees. Also it wouldn't be surprising if the managers of said clubs would have doubts about weather he could ever hit the heights of his Arsenal days again. In lieu of FFP also he might not be the safest purchase.

I just can't see him turning down Arsenal, and Wenger in particular.

Which is fine by me because I don't want him. Which apparently is what Van Gaal is thinking as well.

Also, how many Arsenal players do City want?

The main reason they took the Arsenal players was to weaken Arsenal. It cemented them in the top 3. United were never going to sell to them and Chelsea could offer just as high wages.

Can understand if we arent in for him. We desperately need a CM but a more rounded one than Fabregas. Still too good a player to let go if 30mil is going to be enough though.

Neither of City or Arsenal need him at all so no real surprises there.

God I can't keep up. It went from all PL clubs wanting him to no one wanting him in no time. You could see why Arse and City don't need him but why don't we want him? We hardly have two world class midfield signings lined up when/if we don't buy Fabregas, do we?

For me, he's not quite Vidal but considering the state of our midfield, how hard we've found it to buy a midfielder for the past 7 years, and the lack of top class midfielders who are gettable, this is as obvious a transfer as it can get. City not being interested makes it painfully feckin obvious.

Jamie Jackson the destroyer, becomes the savior! hath he no limits!?!

I think we will get him if we are in for him. We chased him down last summer. He knows we want him and have admired him for a long time. I don't think he would be short-sighted enough to make one season out of the CL a deal breaker. We are still a massive draw imo. I believe we will still challenge for trophies and the league this season.

Just get him in ffs. I'm not his biggest fan, not by a long stretch but at this point I'd take almost anything in midfield. Atleast he can pass a football, our current batch can't do anything! He might not be the all rounder we dream off but we have non rounders atm. Get in a dm next to him to protect the lads at the back, and let's get moving in the right direction.

Why are city intrested? They have Yaya and Fernandinho in midfield and normally play with 2 strikers. What purpose would he serve to them?

He might have to resort to playing for Spurs! (which would work out well for Spurs imo).

I'm surprised Chelsea don't want him, you'd think he could take over Lampards place in the squad.

It seems it's all from the Spanish press. The English Journalists have ruled City out. I suspect it's a ploy to drive up his price and garner interest if it's originating in the Catalan media.

He'll end up at a club like Juve or AC Milan where he can rebuild his stock, wouldn't be surprised to see him at PSG.

I feel he is still a truly quality player that can improve any team that wants him. We need more players of this quality to move forward. I remember when he was in Arsenal, he was never afraid to out his foot in.

I'm also shocked pool aren't quick on this one. They are spending a fortune trying to convince a lessor player to join them. While he is on the market for a similar price and would surely be the type of signing that would impress suarez. Chelseea's case is more understandable. They have too many no10's and mou preffers brawn over flair in midfield.

So we wanted him last season and Barcelona weren't willing to sell. And now Barca want to sell him, and no club is willing to buy. Amazing!

Which lessor player? If you're referring to Lallana, whilst he obviously is a lesser player he's also a winger. He'll also probably cost half as much in wages.
