Chelsea reach agreement to sign Cesc Fábregas

Unless Mourinho wants to flog Oscar to PSG then Liverpool out of all the PL clubs seems most likely. I doubt Mourinho would want him Cesc playing in the double pivot.

Mourinho will move to 4-3-3 I think, Matic has been signed to be the anchor for that.

It's quite telling how far his stock has fallen considering no one wants him, personally I didn't think we need a player like him at all now we have Mata,Kagawa and Rooney in the position. He doesn't play too well as a deep lying midfielder, I imagine his performances would be similar to that of Kagawa when we tried to play him there.

Sure he can pass and run about in forward positions but we need someone who can dictate the tempo of a game and I don't think Fabregas falls into that teir.

Chelsea won't be interested as they just got rid of a similar player in Mata because of his lack of defensive ability.

Liverpool would be a good option but he doesn't play with the intensity the they do.

City is another good option for him but again they prefer powerful dictators in the middle and have Silva and Nasri in his position already.

It's baffling that he didn't move when we were chipping in 25m.

He would have been better off forcing a move out of Barca last summer. Now nobody wants him.

I don't know why so many of our fans salivate over him?

From what I know about Van Gaal, his teams are all about the system.Fabregas is a great player and it seems crazy to turn him down but he doesn't fit into the system Van Gaal wants to play.

It is very likely he will play a 3 man midfield. With the Premier League being very tough he probably wants to play with two tough runners to do the work and one creative midfielder. We already have Mata or Kagawa for that role so Cesc does not fit in when we need to buy two box to box players, Strootman and Schweinsteiger are the targets according to De Telegraaf.

He also wants Hummels to play the ball playing Cb that he like to have in his team. The final target according to De Telegraff is Konoplanka. He is not the most talented of players but he could be very good in Van Gaals system, he works very hard for the team.

Even though it could be very frustrating to see lots of World class players move to other clubs thos summer, I am not worried as Van Gaal unlike Moyes will have a clear plan and buy players to suit that plan.

Really? Didn't he play in a deeper role when he was at Arsenal (around the time he was considered one of the best young cms in the world)? It might not be his best position but to compare him to Kagawa in that role seems ridiculous...

When he was at Arsenal they almost exclusively played 4-3-3 and he acted as the tip of.the triangle in the second row of 3. His role was what Mata, Kagawa, Rooneys role would be in that system. He is almost exclusively an offensive player, Barca were using him as a striker at one point (one of his betyer spells there) but normally they deployed him on the Left or as cover for Xavi of which he simply did a job without shining. It's no surprise that thay are willing to let him go now they have Naymar and will most likely get Koke.

spot on.

He never played on the left at Barcelona, any time he played in the same 11 as Iniesta and Xavi it was Iniesta who moved to the left. Played a lot in a midfield two at Arsenal as well...

My point is if we are deciding over Fabregas or Bastian/Strootman, we need the latter more. Both would be swell. I'd hate to see him go to City though.

running and passing...sounds like Atelico Madrid.

Possibly but what does that mean for Oscar?

From Mourinho interviews I got the impression he wanted to transition the team to a 4-3-3.

When the Mata saga happened I found it odd that despite him not supposedly being good enough defensively the stats actually suggested he was not that bad defensively, not that much worse than Oscar. And furthermore, Mata does more defensively than Ozil!

I thought Mourinho must acknowledge he is a quality player but since he probably wants to play 4-3-3 he decided to sell him as he had a strong value already. His team wasn't ready for 4-3-3, he didn't even have the anchor so he played 4-2-3-1 last season using it as an opportunity to justify a £40m price tag on Oscar.

He signed Matic in january and I think this summer he will look to sign the players ahead of Matic and sell Oscar to PSG unless he is of the opinion Oscar could play in his midfield three.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

The only reason Fabregas would go to City is if they sold Toure to PSG. Fernando is a nailed on target for them and the reason for buying him is so Toure can play further forward.

Outside of England, what destinations are attractive to him?

He is a world class number 10, from what I've been reading on here he isn't a world class number 8 due to his lack of work rate and defensive ability.

A lot of teams have quality number 10s so he might end up staying at Barcelona.

How would he fit into Ancelotti's Madrid? I know he will never sign for them but I actually think that's one of the sides he might do well at.

Can Liverpool even afford him? £30m on Lambert and Lallana + Fabregas would be their entire budget surely, or do they have more than £60m to spend?

If you pay close attention to Van Gaal's Holland, they press all game. The good news of us not going for Fabregas is that Van Gaal probably wants to keep Mata. As I've said all along, he won't play Mata or kagawa plus Fabregas in the same side. Strootman is pretty much nailed on to feature in Van Gaal's plans and he may also bring another Dutch player with him. The benefit of this is that they know Van Gaal's ideas and would be quicker on the uptake than players from outside.

Our interest in Fabregas is purely a media invention given our pursuit of him last summer. I strongly doubt Van Gaal wants him and that's all that matters as far as i am concerned.

If you look at the top two posters of this thread, by a country mile it is held by two Arsenal supporters. Go even further into the stats, and 95% of those posts are regarding how confident they are that Cesc is coming back, with the other 5% stating United's inferiority to Arsenal now. Cute

If we're not in for him, although it evident we need a centre midfielder, I give up. That said, Fabregas might not be the type of centre midfielder Van Gaal feels we need. I personally feel we need more of a dynamic box to box player, instead of a Fabregas type player.

So you personally feel we need a different type of player than Fabregas, but if we're not in for him you give up?

Make your mind up.

Well, to be honest, we could do with both, but I feel a box to box player is more of a priority, which is why I said, 'I personally feel we need MORE of a dynamic box to box player'.

I imagine Barca probably want 40m, Arse and Us wont pay that, and City are holding back due to FFP.
Why not,we were close to paying it last summer if media reports are said to be true. Now its all depends on LGV.
