Chelsea reach agreement to sign Cesc Fábregas

We might as well lock this topic.

Arsenal are clearly the better team on and off the field.
As we cannot possibly sign 1 good player, while Arsenal will get Cesc and Benzema

It was more like the legover formation when City used it against us.

Firstly, you'll be lucky to come up against many teams bending over as willingly as you lot did for City.

Secondly, your first lego brick has to be able to defend. Fernandinho-Toure: check. Wilshere-Ramsey: nope.

Although Ramsey would get more opportunities than ever to try inadvisable back-heeled passes on the edge of his own penalty area.

Come on, Pete, that is an awful formation and you know it. You'd simply have to rotate players if you bought Cesc or offload someone. One of the reasons I don't want us to go after these "world class" players is because it invariably creates this kind of headache. You should be bringing in players to complement a system, not desperately trying to stick players together with a bit of gum and blu-tac.

Edit: Quoted the wrong thing.

Intended to quote that ^^^

We didn't bend over for City despite only arriving back in the UK at 4am on Thursday for a 12.45 KO (in marked contract to Chelsea having their league game moved to help them and shaft travelling Arsenal fans). It was a wild west game in which we got the rough end of reffing calls at vital moments. Ramsey-Wilshere is more defensively solid that Arteta-Whoever as far as I can see (particularly with a third proper CM ahead of them). And Ramsey has cut out the silly bollox.

I had a dream about Fabregas last night. Somehow he was hiding at my grandad's house with his girlfriend (who was some random blonde lass). I was asking him if it's true he was signing for us and he said everything was agreed, he just needs to find a place to live. Something about some chicken dippers in the dream somewhere too.

Rooney is definitely not world class. Even Mata is arguable as there are 3 or 4 better number 10s around.

Mata is genuinely world class. There aren't 3/4 no.10's better than him. Even if there were, you would say he's right up there in that category and so world class.

Edit: how have I quoted Pete again? *grabs coat and leaves*

It depends, that's why I said it's arguable. If you use the definition some people use where you're picking a 23 man squad to play Mars, then he doesn't get in.

Alright, mate.

You think Rooney is world class?

Ok, make a thread and argue your points as to why you don't think he's world class.

I view world-class as a vague level of standards, not as a fantasy roster that would/wouldn't work as a real team. This is where Van Gaal is right to say the vision/philosophy comes first. Some players can be world class in niche roles within certain teams but not elsewhere. You could build an excellent team and include either of Silva and Mata to very good effect. That's why I think of them both as world class.

I agree with this,
look at kagawa, he was excellent and pretty much world class at dortmund, and has not played the same since then. he is still a very good player mind you.

Then look at RVP, this guy is truly world class, our team was terrible last season but he still managed to rise above that and delivered the goals. He could slot into any team and do a fantastic job.

That's a fecking stupid definition. If you have 5 strikers scoring 40 goals a season are only two or one of them allowed to be world class?

James Scowcroft of UWS is adamant that Fabregas is going to Arsenal. Just tweeted it.

If it comes down to us and Arsenal, and we offer roughly the same money, and he wants to leave - what reasons would there be to join us over them?
Taking off the United blinkers, does our future look any brighter than Arsenal's? Does it look any more stable? Are we any more guaranteed to win things than Arsenal any more?

Whereas before under Sir Alex it was a case of coming to United being almost a guarantee that a player would win trophies, we're now one of a number of clubs who are around the same level, with a manager who may or may not get it right.

We've had massive upheavel, and Arsenal have had none, yet still only came 4th in the league.

Another centre mid like him isn't what they need. How do you fit in Cazorla, Ozil, Fabregas, they're all similar type players! Fabregas would be ideal for us, but for Arsenal it won't be what they need to make a step up.

Although it is true that they need a better striker, fabregas is better than any player they have. He would improve them.

I have no idea what Arsenal would plan to do with all of those guys. Maybe they don't even want him at all.
But if they do go for him, what reason would he have to join us over them?

Because 2 of them are better than the others and 'world class' is a hard tag to grab hold of.

Wouldn't be remotely surprised if Fabregas ended up back at Arsenal. His relationship with Wenger is very good and he clearly loves the club and only left them in the first place cos it was Barca who came calling. The club can afford to make a decent offer to bring him back and it would be huge for them and their fans going in to next season. You don't often lose your star players to Barca or Madrid and then end up with the chance to bring them back when they're still well in their prime so I can't imagine Wenger not taking the opportunity. We are the ones who need him more but if Arsenal are also in for him then I can't see how he will choose to join us over them.

It's the same thing with Shaw unfortunately, if his preferred club Chelsea is in for him too then we will miss out, it's as simple as that really. We should be used to it by now but I'm quietly confident we will make some good signings this summer and with the criticism last time round, Woodward will be desperate to look competent in the transfer market and the Glazers must surely expect to be spending out to fix our problems. My main concern is more if van Gaal doesn't quite realise just how desperately we need to enforce the defence and midfield with some world class players and our top targets choose other clubs. If we don't get Kroos or Fabregas then fine but we do need a CM already at a similar level to come in to the first team or we will regret it big time.

Size of club, size of wage, chance to be part of the big turnaround? Reunite with VP etc.

One things for sure, we're a lot more appealing now than we were under Moyes, reigning champs or not!

Completely agree with the Fabregas part but it's not the same thing with Shaw, the only ties he has with Chelsea is that he supported them when he was a kid, the boyhood club thing is talked up way too much. Saying that I do think he'll go to Chelsea should they go in for him because Chelsea are in a much stronger position than we are plus he's also a guaranteed starter there as he is here. The pay would be similar too.

And I wouldn't call either of Rakitic or Strootman world class but they'd improve our midfield to the standard it needs to be, so I don't think we necessarily need a world class midfielder just two very good ones who won't cost in excess of £40m. I think van Gaal will know where needs strengthening. But my God, our midfield is horrendous.

I heard Shaws family live near Chelsea's training ground, no idea if he was a huge fan or not but it would definitely play a part considering we would likely be offering similar wages and terms to them if they are in for him anyway. They are a bigger lure than us at the moment for the majority of players let alone a young fan of the club. I wasn't as worried about them getting him given our firm interest but with Cole leaving and now the ridiculous Luiz money, they could easily sign him over us. I fully expect it to happen unfortunately but would love to be wrong.

Fabregas won't come here unless we trump any other interested clubs and offer him massive wages. He would earn more here, probably around a similar amount to van Persie but I don't think it would be enough to get him here if they are interested as Arsenal can also afford to offer him a very good amount. I haven't seen enough of Rakitic or Strootman but aware how well regarded they are. If van Gaal thinks they will solve our midfield woes then great but I really do think we need a proven world class CM to sort us out. As you said, our midfield is horrendous, the worst it's ever been pretty much so I do think we need players the calibre of Fabregas, Kroos and Reus to get us back to the top again, doubt we will sign any but that's what we should be aiming for in my opinion.

The arsenal players should start saying "its in fabregas dna to come back to arsenal" and that "fabregas was made to play for arsenal" like Barcelona used to three years ago.

Wenger can retail his account of international managers trashing his players: ' They borrow your car, they redline it and leave it upside down in a field with no petrol'.

and get Cazorla to pull an Arsenal shirt over Cesc's head at the World Cup.

I won't deny, that would be hilarious.

Theres only one certainty in the premier league and that is, Arsenal will finish 4th place.

Yes. Look at pete's and al's posts. One bad, moyesified season and you all seem convinced that Arsenal are soooo much better than United that we shouldn't even dream of catching the mighty Gooners, probably ever again. After all, they finished fourth for the 346228th time, who would dare to even dream about rivalling such consistent brilliance?

One thing that riles me about a lot United Fans especially on these forums.

Act like you've been there before. Seriously, there is no need to go Defcon 1 whenever someone takes a poke at United. People fly off the handle here over the most imperceptible slights.

David de gea is trying to make fabregas come....... to manchester united

David de Gea is convinced that Vicente del Bosque shouldn't rule injury-hit strikerDiego Costa outof his World Cup squad just yet: "Of course we should wait for Costa, he's a top player. I played alongside him for several years at Atleti and he's really blossomed this year. We have to wait and see how he progresses and hopefully he'll be 100%".

The goalie believes Spain's stars are as hungry as ever:"There are players who have won everything at club and international level, but you never lose that fire in the belly. From what I've seen they're chomping at the bit".

"We don't know who's going to play against Bolivia, but we have to be ready in case we get the nod", the Manchester United man noted, adding: "I'm raring to make my debut. There's a lot of competition in goal, but I'm enjoying myself and pushing myself to the max in training".

Asked aboutpossible nerves in the camp, he replied: "There'sa lot of speculation about who will go to Braziland who won't. A few players are carrying fitness issues and we just have to wait for the gaffer to make his decision: it's as simple as that".

De Gea believes the future is bright for 'La Roja':"It's true that there's very good work being done in the youth teams. We try to emulate the senior squad and youth players are being given the chance to make the step up when [senior] players are unavailable".

"I don't know much about Brazil, but at the end of the day we're going there to play football; we don't really venture into the outside world. It's true that the situation there is delicate in some aspects, but we try to block all of that out", the 23-year-old added.

The United goalkeeper also admitted to La Sexta's 'Jugones' programme that he's attempting to work his magic on Cesc Fàbregas, stating: "I'm trying to get him to come".

After successful coming of mata, he is trying to make fabregas come. Agent de gea is in business!

Wouldn't we be better playing a big support striker in the hole, like Fellaini, to exploit the Martians' lack of height (little green men)?

You think Rooney is world class?

How many non-Real, Barca, Bayern players get in?
