Same person who told me about this when Bayern was all the talk. Stuck £20 at 16/1 knowing he was never going to Munich. All paper talk..Same person who's told me about Fabregas announcement. Even @alastair knows its true, even if he is a twat.

fare enough, there were some reports that it's a done deal. Maybe your source is a bit over excited with fabregas signing.

They probably have to wait for Barcelona to close the deal on Rakitic before any announcement.

Announcement tomorrow.

This would be quite upsetting but fair enough if your mates right, looks pretty certain now. Brilliant signing for you and I'm really disappointed we didn't get him to be honest. I think he will do great at Chelsea and be a vital player for you over the next few years, there's no big pressure on him either to live up to his transfer fee as it's actually very reasonable for once.

I don't fully believe we weren't in for him either, we would be foolish not to be as we could massively do with a player of his quality. Realistically he's probably just chosen Chelsea like Hazard did and a depressing list of others before him. I hate to say it but with Costa and now apparently Fabregas Chelsea sure are showing everyone else how it's done, I'm still concerned you'll end up getting Shaw too.

I don't even think he's quite what we needed - but still, It'll be upsetting seeing yet another very good midfielder moving to another club at around our level. Whatever our reasons were for not pursuing him (if that truly was the case).

I suspect he wants to be in London. It's probably that simple.

It will be a sad day indeed. Wenger and that rat Gazidis better pull something very big out of the hat...

Still can't fathom why such a vehement opponent of the football Chelsea and Mourinho play would want to join Chelsea and Jose.

We can never compete with them, which is fecking sad and frustrating. They're still a nothing club compared to us.
I'm sure the vast majority of players these days disagree, unfortunately.

I don't know if I agree with this. But even if it is the case - For how long?

Ridiculous comment. If it makes feel you better at night then keep saying so to yourself but that isn't the case. As the likes of Hazard would say to you.

Luis is our 1st choice LB as it stands. Chelsea just aren't prepared to spend £30m on an 18 year old. They were confident they'd get him for circa £20m but everything changed when that Swiss bitch came crashing through demanding silly money for their players.

It's funny Chelsea are talking about silly money when it is thenm who have set the trend here. Torres anyone?

They can offer ridiculous wages, so can City. It doesn't mean that either club are anywhere close to us in stature.

Manchester United will always be a bigger job for any manager than Chelsea, regardless of their money.

Rooney and RVP get paid more than Chelsea and City players. What the feck are you smoking. We will pay just as much as anyone in wages for the right player.

How on earth can you know that?
How on Earth can you know that they offer ridiculous wages then? If you go by speculation then you have to look on both sides. At-least Rooney by all media is said to be the most paid player on England. And our wage bill is higher than that of Chelsea (this isn't only speculation).

They are filthy fecking rich, just like City. It's not rocket science. We are indeed able to offer a really good wage, but as long as Chelsea have Roman backing them, they'll always better us. If he took off, they would, as I said, be a nothing club.

Not a fan of Gazidis? I like the guy.

He's a business man at the end of the day, and I think he's more concerned about the bottom line than the results of the club. I have just read too much rubbish from him over the years.

Having said this if we pull off more deals like Ozil then my opinion will change.

Do you realize that what you're saying doesn't make sense considering that our wage bill is higher than Chelsea's wage bill (despite their Abramovich money)?

That's why I asked that other poster how he actually knows this for a fact. It's news to me.

Here is my take on United against the other teams when it comes to signing players.

We have been for the longest time a separate entity in World Football.

With Sir Alex at the helm, there was only one mentality and it was his. He wasnt just a manager but the driving force in the club. He didnt want to build a team but rather a club. Fair enough, there were people that probably helped him along the road but he was the initiator and his word was the law in United land.

The players we signed were either in love or respecting him and the club enough to join, play and, when it happens, endure the hairdryer. Sir Alex made his own rules and nobody could avoid following them unless the said player was prepared to be sold.

A lot of younger players, influenced by their managers, family or personal reasons didnt want to deal with him and didnt join. Money plays and has always played a big role in football but the fact that players had to deal with Sir Alex was the deciding factor.

When he left, the club had to adapt to how other clubs do business. Without the Big Name of Sir Alex, some doors were shut( for the players that would come because of him) and some doors were opened( for the players that wouldnt come because of him).

The club wasnt prepared for this massive change and the last transfer window proved that. Inexperience is what stopped us from signing the really good players. What followed didnt help either. I believe that if Moyes didnt fail so hard and stayed at United, this transfer window we wouldnt have any trouble signing most of our targets. Why is that?

Well, players wanted to see how the club would proceed after the changes. If we qualified for the CL and Moyes stayed, it would be calming enough and the potential signings would not see coming here as such a big risk as after Sir Alex just left.

What is the conclusion you ask?

We are back to square 1. If Van Gaal doesnt fail and we have CL, the next summer window will have us in much better light showing that we are having a somewhat successful transitional period and players wouldnt feel in danger when coming here.

United is still massive though. Look at it like we are a powerful country that for long time has been dominating the world. Now imagine we are without a president and there is an internal political and power redistribution. Would you want to sign a new defense alliance with such a country, seemingly in turmoil?

Prospects are joining other teams because we are currently an unstable giant. We have the money but the future is too unclear to attract the best players out there. I would give it a season and if it brings stability and signs of improvement, the talent will come.
