Chelsea banned from signing players

 Just after having a summer with very little activity, and all. They were probbly holding their cash back with the view to spend big next summer.

But yes, I agree with some of the above posts. They will appeal and have the length of time massively reduced.

How can they have the length of time massively reduced? It can either be two, or one transfer window. The number of years have nowt to do with it.

While we're at it, we might as well open up the entire can of worms that is football transfers, rather than just a crack. Then we can really see who the offenders are.

I think that can might have more than a few Man Utd worms in it, we're not exactly whiter than white ourselves...

It's a bit bin-dipper-ish alright

To assume that a Russian oligarch would lie down and allow the biggest penalty on an English side since 1985 for the crime of tapping up a youth player is short-sighted, so when Chelsea appeal this case they could say the FIFA executive who oversaw this decision themselves are immoral it would help us.

I think it is pretty measured that Chelsea will go on the offensive, and not just against FIFA, they will be putting very, very heavy scrutiny on every major club in Europe to see if they are above board. This is the biggest can of worms FIFA could possibly open and they could not have done it in a bigger way.

They can't just say that, though. It leaves them open to a libel suit.

It was a bit stronger than tapping up, by the sound of it. Sounds like you actually encouraged him to break the contract, not just spoke to him before speaking to the club.

That said, yes, it will hardly be the only time it has happened.

Will you be investigating Platini's private life? His family? How far will this search for "immoral" behaviour go?

What difference would it make though? Platini or who ever would have to step down, but the decision would be upheld because it was the court's decision.

No I'm talking about this gives Chelsea major incentive to uncover any degree of corruption within FIFA and UEFA, I'm not talking about private lifes nor would I ever agree with that.

In effect it might as well be 3 transfer windows because the january window is not one that see's a lot of activity - especially with the bigger teams who look for players able to play in the CL. Chelsea will probably buy, but it'll be the summer of 2011 in which they can look to get in the bigger realistic targets imo.

dont forget the cashley incident, that is clearly a large reason the ban is so severe, and fifa will probarbly manage to keep it going as you have previous for a similar offence

EDIT: how did i forget about obi mikel aswell, there is a real chance that this will stand

The idea of corruption at UEFA is a fecking fantasy though, and besides that, UEFA have nothing at all to do with this decision.

Ralphie prediction:

Chelsea to be given leave to appeal to CAS.

CAS to overturn suspension before the next transfer window opens.

I think CAS may not overturn it. The transfer ban is probably OK in a sporting sense. But I think a Civil law court would overturn it. There's all kinds of restraint of trade angles that Chelsea could argue.

I know we have signed some young player ,but I dont think we have asked them the break there contract in the way Chealsea have .
I will admit that I have no idea about this untill I read it here , they kept it very quite.
We dont have anything to worry about ,well I hope we dont, cant see them taking this they will appeal and poss get it lifted.

Where the f**k is Ferguson's ban then? This is a f**king disgrace. this quoate from another post ,whicth I think is quaoted from a Chealsea site ,made me laugh and is very RAWK like , they would be calling for us to be closed ,sold and banned for ever..

I think Chelsea can sign players, just not register them to any contest, therefore avoiding a lot of the laws.

I like how when they do the dodgy on Man Utd. with Mikel (i know theyre probably different circumstances), not alot is done, but as soon as it happens to a french club UEFA are all over it...

Guess they'd better extend Anelka's contract quickly. They'll wish they'd done so sooner now!

Not sure about that. There rule I quoted earlier says "any club found to be in breach of contract or found to be inducing a breach of contract ... shall be banned from registering any new players, either nationally or internationally, for two registration periods." There doesn't seem to be any room for less severe punishments.

The difference here is this player was under contract -- the suggestion is Chelsea persuded the player to break his contract so they can sign him without paying compensation. I supect Lens wanted a lot of money for the player Chelsea thought they could get round it.

Exactly, I saw no ban after the Mikel thing. Joke.
this was on the Chealsea site , was it not them, that got him to say he wanted to go there AFTER he signed for us.
Was that not why they had to pay us a good few million.

Maybe not, but we've certainly signed a lot of young players and annoyed their clubs - we seem to generally have gone through the clubs with the exception of our Italians... But I would be very surprised if ourselves, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool (plus City, Spurs, etc.) weren't all involved in some very shady dealings, with the amount of money involved it's simply not surprising.

Poor roman, it must be like being told you cant play FM for 2 years :(

Fair point ,hopefully we have done everything above board.
Mind you City's chasing of Lescott was a bit dodgy, but them we had the Berba thing last season.

Wow, that some crazy news I must say.

I know we have been snapping up youngsters but most of them where unable to sign contracts with their clubs due to their age. We haven't asked players to break their contracts.

Chelsea's recent history isn't brilliant, with investigations into Cole and Mikel in recents years and now this.
