Chelsea agree £32m fee with Atletico Madrid for Diego Costa

I think he'll flop. He's definitely a Mourinho type player though.

Great player who's having his first real top season at Atletico. Thought Mourinho would've gone for Dzeko, who is a bit better than Costa imo, but with City perhaps not willing to sell, Falcao being older and heavily injured it seems logical. Cavani would perhaps be a good option for Chelsea too, but in terms of playing style Diego Costa is pretty close to Drogba, which has suited them very well in the past.

Still is a bit of a gamble though, although they're not overpaying if you look at the Schevchenko/Torres feckup and also at Soldado (which was laughable anyway since he was pretty average too good at Valencia, nothing more).

He'll have to raise his game a little before he's on RVP, Zlatan, Aguero, Suarez level, and like I said, I'd take Dzeko over Diego Costa too.

feckin class signing. Bastards. Would've given my right arm to have him here.
We have Rooney and RvP, not to mention Welbeck and Hernandez. He is a good striker but you can't have them all.

I may be in the minority here, but I don't rate Costa as being a world class striker. Equally there's something that tells me he's going to flop in England.

He's not world class. His touch is hit and miss, I think he'll get about 15-20 goals, but he's not the 35 goal man they are looking for. He'll also be despised because he's such a stupendous thundercnut.

He's not as good as the top strikers (Lewandowski, RVP, Suarez, Cavani etc) but he'll score goals for them.

I'd say Rooney and Van Persie are both better strikers, not even close. In terms of age and experience, but also in terms of raw talent. So if they were injured, he'd be perfect imo, but since if they are not, makes me curious, would you still want him here? You'd take him over Rooney or RVP perhaps? Really like him that much?

Considering the transfer fees nowadays, 32m is not bad for a striker, like Costa. World class or not, he's certainly a serious improvement on Ba, Torres and Eto'o.

I have a feeling, we'll buy another striker in the summer.

Chelsea might go for dzeko too. Costa has 36 goals in 50 games this year and that is with him missing lots of penalties, he could get more if he improved in that regard. He is quite similar to drogba and I definitely think he will succeed at Chelsea. Maybe they have gone off falcao because he got injured and they are afraid of another torres situation where the player doesn't reach his highest level after getting injured.

I'm actually quite pleased as this means the likes of Falcao or Cavani won't be pitching up there next season.

How much do you think Falcao would cost?

Yeah rather they get him over the top strikers but he's a huge improvement on anyone there just now.

If Atletico take Torres back to replace him then they're fecked.

I'd think about what Monaco themselves paid. He's not happy there and off a long-term injury it would be a risk to sign him but he'd be worth it if he got back to his best.

He'll be as good as Suarez I think. If Suarez wasn't a cnut and never played for Liverpool I'd take him over RVP and Rooney all day long. This guy is just an absolute beast in my opinion. He'll be like Drogba in terms of the effect he has on Chelsea.

I thought that when Maureen batted his eyes at him. Don't think City would sell him to the chavs though.

He's better than Cavani and Atletico fans apparently rate him higher than Falcao now. I think it's close between those two but Diego Costa just seems to be a complete nutjob and it makes him such a handful for defenders. La Liga defenders will be glad to see the back of him.

I see, and agree about the Drogba effect for sure, his stats at Chelsea aren't even that impressive, but his overall style of play, well it won them the Champions League for instance.

Having seen Suarez play a lot at Ajax, it never really surprised me how brilliant he has become. But I've also seen a lot of Van Persie, as a youngster up until now, and I can assure you Suarez is nowhere near van Persie's level. Well that's not true, but both in their absolute prime on their best days, I'd say Van Persie get's at least a 5% edge, which is a lot. Suarez having two more season like this and scoring against the top teams too that time and I'd probably still take RVP over him, but that's just how I feel.

Same goes for Rooney vs. Suarez probably, although they are eerily similar players if you really look at them closely, but Rooney has been showing it at one of the biggest clubs in the world since age 18 and never really let us down. I was actually gutted we didn't go for Suarez when Liverpool bought him, would have made the RVP transfer unnecessary and would've prevented City winning the league on goal difference.

Dzeko only has a year left on his contract and Mourinho is a huge admirer of his.

If Jovetic is fit next year then they could afford to sell Dzeko.

It does sound a bit contradictory to say he's exactly what they need and perfect for the premiership whilst simultaneously thinking Mourinho won't get the best out of him. How come he's perfect for them then?

It's not a byword for a contradiction.

It's when the brain adjusts it's interpretation of what it believed to be true in light of new information. The famous example being a cult who believed that the world would end, when this didn't happen instead of ditching their beliefs they deemed themselves not worthy. The brain coped by reducing dissonance between these two concepts.

If he said he was perfect for the premiership and Chelsea, then he flopped, then he blamed mourinhos tactics that'd be closer. Seeing as he is just predicting future events it doesn't apply.

I'm not sure that £32m is a bargain or a steal by any stretch of the imagination. I think it's pretty much a fair price.

Perfect player for Mourinho really in that he comes across as a combative prick that will do pretty much anything to win. Good price too.

Chelsea are gonna be more hateable with this guy up front.

In terms of 'ifs' that one is about as big as they get.

This is seriously frightening.

I'd take Dzeko over Diego Costa anyday probably. But Costa is great, so Chelsea buying them both is a really worst case scenario. Seriously, this can not happen. What if they would start the season with Dzeko, Diego Costa and Lukaku as their strike force?

Man for some reason I think its going to happen *sigh*

Well maybe Lukaku doesn't want to play second or third fiddle. But then, they would probably leave one of Dzeko or Costa and get Drogba back or Adebayor or something, so they'd have Diego Costa, Lukaku, Drogba/Adebayor on top of the already excellent team they have. Man this is not good indeed.
