Chelsea agree £32m fee with Atletico Madrid for Diego Costa

No it's not, he's not a world class centre forward. It's a sensible fee from all parties' perspective, refreshing to see.

Given todays market value, I would classify it as a bargain personally. Look at the amount being thrown about for Cavani. Costa has scored 37 goals with 17 assists in the last two La Liga seasons. That's pretty blood good. I'd have him in my top 10 strikers in the world easily.

They should've tried to get Lukaku and Courtois going the other way on loan for another season. Maybe even a permanent for Lukaku.

Obviously what they've needed. It's early days but can see Chelsea being the team to stop next season.

The market value is so outstandingly over priced nowadays that it's good to see as sensible a fee as £32 million for Costa, it's hardly a bargain though.

They were always going to sign someone so pretty expected. Could hurt them in the long run if Lukaku fecks off and turns into Drogba mk.2. Least their fans can stop moaning about not having a world class striker now

I don't rate him that highly... first season he has scored more than 10 league goals and he gets bought for 32million?

Not among the very best strikers yet, but still an exceptional player with a good balance between talent and hard work, will be perfect for Chelsea's counter-attacking system. I like him, this will probably change once he moves to West London bus station

Between Costa and Suarez papers and pundits will have their work cut out for them. What a rivalry those two are going to have, though not one many would enjoy. :D

Wonder what this means for Lukaku and whether they will send him out on loan again or sell him.

It was a leak? That's what I thought in Shaw thread and was corrected. I'm so confused...

Just like this Costa to Chelsea story is. There's been no official confirmation from Chelsea.

This is how football news works these days - it's all about clandestine briefings and information being leaked.

In todays market I think it will be. He'll be very good for Chelsea, he'll become the player everyone hates once Suarez fecks off to Madrid. I'm shocked it's not higher, I was expecting 45m.

I think they have come to an agreement whereas we have just put in a bid.

There are subtle differences: the Costa to Chelsea deal is being reported as 'done', whereas we're supposedly still at the negotiation stage with Shaw. But if you look at the Shaw reports, it's clear that the deal is virtually done too. Too many respected outlets are reporting the same thing, namely that he'll go to United.

Just wish ours had been about a fee being agreed...

Atletico to sign Javier Hernandez as a replacement?

Can't wait to see Diego Costa in a much tougher league, wasn't very impressive over the two legs vs Chelsea though I suppose he won't be able against that level of defender every week.

Another dirty fecking cnut in the Premier League next season then - Suarez will have to leave just to provide balance :nono:

Disappointingly low fee given the season he's had and his importance to Atletico - especially since they are dealing with a sugar daddy buyer.

Chelsea again showing us how to do shit in the transfer market. Whoever they want, they get (excluding our fat scouser).

He's a Mourinho. Personally I'm still not all that convinced by the guy. He'll be a good signing but considering they were linked with Falcao and Cavani not so long ago I'm not too bothered by it.

I actually agree - he only managed 34 goals in 109 games in la liga before 27 in 34 this year.

He's a 1 in 3 striker having an outstanding season.

Or he is a 25 year old player (allegedly) maturing at the right time and fulfilling his potential.

I think you have misinterpreted what cognitive dissonance is.
It does sound a bit contradictory to say he's exactly what they need and perfect for the premiership whilst simultaneously thinking Mourinho won't get the best out of him. How come he's perfect for them then?

So does this count as a splurge or a safe buy keeping the FFP in mind?
Someone retweeted on my timeline an article saying that Chelsea are set to record their highest ever profit and earnings for this past season. That and Mourinho saying a few weeks back that Chelsea can comfortably pay £50m for a single player if they saw it fit. Don't think they're near trouble at all in regards to FFP.

This is probably the first of about 3 big signings for them I'm predicting.

Good player but seems a bit of a waste for a FFP Chelsea - that's 32m they can't spend elsewhere. With Lukaka already in the bank perhaps they could have played him. Or if they wanted a guaranteed upgrade on what they had, they should have gone all out for one of the very best strikers.

I like him. Pepe and Ramos will be chuffed he's leaving the league, which says a lot about his cuntishness. His WUMming with the penalty spot was golden.

They needed a striker more than anyone, why would they save money to put it elsewhere? £32m is a good price.

Because Mourinho's system, while effective, inhibits and shackles players?

It was a poorly structured post though.

How is this anymore done than say Shaw? Why are people saying Chelsea are showing us how to do things?

It's SSN which is basically like saying it's nothing very much at all. I despair.

When it comes to strikers atletico are like the lernaean hydra, you cut off one of its heads and more grow in its place and sometimes they are more deadly than the last one. I wonder who they will replace costa with. They have had torres, forlan, aguero, falcao and now costa. Every time they sell a striker and replace him with a new one the team seems to improve and advance further than they did with the last one.

He is not a Rooney or Cavani so i'm delighted he is the expensive striker in Chelsea. I'm not worried about him, might be turn out as a new Suarez but doubt it. He is a monumental thundercnut so one more reason to hate the renties.

Chelsea have "agreed a fee."

We apparently just "made a bid."
