I think he'd do well for Chelsea. However I find it inexplicable (though not out of character) to not give a proper chance to Lukaku.

I don't think he's all that and a bag of potato chips but he's tailor made for a Mourinho team. He'll do well for them I suspect, even if he isn't necessarily prolific.

I'm the opposite, think he will be white for Chelsea

He's the first player I've come across who's ethnic origin changes depending on the club he's playing for. Revolutionary signing for the renties.

We all saw how Costa did for Spain. He doesnt fit into the way they played, and Chelsea will have to spend time having him learn new strategies or accomodate him.

Well, Chelsea don't play like Spain at all and he fits in the way we play.

Only for the last few years. For his first few seasons at Chelsea he was boo'd up and down the country for his bellendish behaviour on the pitch.

Yeah, I forgot about that, but I think in general he'll stay in people's minds for his football attributes, not for his antics.

Exactly. Plays with his back to goal and will bring the likes of Oscar, Hazard and Willian into play. Similar to how he used Milito at Inter.

His tweets find their way on other topics on this forum, I wasn't aware he was just a student though.

He is, and his opinion is no more valuable than anyones on the caf. I would love him to be banned. His claim to fame was spotting the "See you in Manchester" on Thiago's football last season.

Edit: As you were, I don't want to derail the thread. :)

scary if it gels

I think they'll start the season like this but then 1 or 2 iffy results and Mourinho will revert to type and play Fabregas further on and a more defensive midfielder alongside Matic.

Lukaku as his backup? I can't believe Mourinho would enter another season with Torres and Ba as players he needs to depend on. Imagine if Costa gets injured early on and they're right back to square one with shit strikers.

It's either Lukaku is returning or he's buying someone else in addition to Costa with Lukaku sold.

Would be surprised to see Lukaku stick around. He's made no secret of the fact he has no intention of sitting on the bench.

"What a waste of money!"

Hope he flops like Sheva. But I see him clicking with Mourinho like Ibrahimovic, Milito and Drogba did. I hate smug Chelsea fans as much as I hate Live1pool fans.

Can easilu see that happening as well although osscar, willian and costa are very hardworking and fabregas did use to play in a midfield two so no reason for it not to work. If they destroy teams with it, mourinho will probably stick with it for the majority of the games. Only shutting shop for the big games.
On paper that is. But Fabregas to share defensive duty with Matic? I don't know.

Used to play in a midfield two at arsenal. Can easily do it again.

He can do that surely - Matic is a pure DM, Fabregas as a deep-lying playmaker, and all front four is capable of pressing the opponent while he is in possession, especially Oscar and Willian (he is the weak link here though)

I have seen people compare him to Drogba he's nothing like him, Drogba used to dominate opponents, his chest control, his physical presence and he was soo unpredictable he had soo much in his locker than him, he could pass, he had a unbelievable strike on him and he was soo strong in the air, as compared to him whenever i have seen him he has been underwhelming he can't dominate opponents, and he's very limited technically he stuck out like a sore thumb from the Spanish side, he has scored plenty of goals for Atletico which suggests he is a good finisher but i am not too worried by this signing.

He's going to flop. Not worried about him. Lukaku should of been given a chance.

And yet he made the move to Chelsea in the first place, despite talking about he wouldn't make his move to a club that would put him on the bench.

I find some of these players' thinking very strange.

I can't work out whether he or Lallana will be the worst summer signing.

£32m for this lump. Christ.
You don't think a league winning, CL finalist who scored 30+ goals is a better buy than an average, overrated English player?

He's not top class, but he'll be more than good enough to improve them quite a bit. The poor WC has clouded people's judgements of him. He's a good player.

he has only scored more than 10 league goals in a season once and that was this year.

While playing on the wing out of position. Still had double digit assists and goals.

Not saying he's an awesome player or anything but he's a huge improvement on Torres.

I can see both being good signings, not confident on it mind but there's certainly some degree of logic to both signings.

He's better than Torres/Eto'o/Lukaku/Ba.

But if you're going to spend £32m, he's not the man. Then again, who is the man? No out and out strikers exist who are available and good enough.

ye, no doubting that. I just don't get Chelsea. They are so scared of playing youth because they want instant success. Players like Lukaku, Sturridge, De Bruyne and many many more just thrown away. I don't even understand why young players would ever want to go to Chelsea and hope that they will break through into the main team. It is virtually impossible.

Exactly. Cavani, Falcao, and the like cost twice as much.

Truth be told, I think they should've gone after Benzema but maybe Mourinho didn't fancy him after working with him before. Still, I think Costa & Lukaku is enough. They always get plenty of goals from midfield every season.

Benzema < Costa

Benzema < Costa
I'd say they're about even.

Think you'll keep Lukaku? Mourinho probably knows that he can flog him for a sizable fee and buy someone else, but then you risk him going on to become a monster like everyone thinks he will and you regret it.

Costa is the perfect lump for Mourinho's ugly football.

I think it will be:
Costa
Hazard--------Willian
Fabregas--Oscar
Matic

...with Ramires getting bunch of minutes in one of the two CM places.
