Chelsea 2024/25

18 year old Acheampong has started the last 2 league games. Disasi appears to be on his way out of the club. Tosin has failed to nail down the spot, losing his spot to a teenager, and Fofana is out of the season.

Imagine spending all that money and having to recall a 25 year old former academy player on loan because they’ve no other options.

Admittedly our work in trying to find good CBs in the market has been underwhelming. Badiashile was good for a brief period but hasn’t been the same since his injury. Fofana just can’t stay healthy and Disasi was never good enough to begin with. Tosin is OK but he was a free transfer. Colwill is the one good and consistent CB we have and he’s one of our own.

I was happy with Acheampong’s work the last 2 games, and I hope he keeps his place despite Chalobah coming back.

As an England fan hoping for a consistent run of games for Reece James and that his hamstring issues might finally be behind him... absolutely world-class at his best and would be my starter for the NT without a shadow of doubt even with Trent around. Very few full-backs these days that are as good on both sides as the ball as he is.

I used to dream about getting the old Reece James back, the one from 2021 and 2022. That guy was genuinely unbelievable. These days I just hope he can put a run of games together without breaking down again.

From a Palace perspective I hope this is the last time we do business with Chelsea. It's hopefully a massive wake-up call to the Palace board that begging for Chelsea players on loan every season is no way to run a PL club after all these years.

Four months ago this lad was a piece of sh*t on their shoe and has fitted in brilliantly at Palace, am more than a bit gutted.

Yeah it's not great, but ultimately clubs will look out for their own interests, and with a couple CBs injured and one half way out of the door, we're potentially down 3 CBs from the group we started the season with. I think Palace and Chelsea's relationship remains amicable, almost every single player that has moved from us to you in recent years, whether on loan or permanent, has been a success, and Palace can always include a no call back clause in future loan deals.

Oh absolutely, if a recall clause is there then it's your right to use it ultimately. But it leaves us in a really crap position having finally bedded in the Guehi Lacroix Chalobah backline.

Thinking back over the years we've had Bamford, Remy, Batshuayi twice, RLC, Gallagher, now Trev...any I'm missing? None of those signed long term deals with us and you probably sold most on for a profit to someone else. I really hope this is the moment we decide to invest in and develop our own players rather than yours.

I didn't think that far back tbf

I only considered Loftus-Cheek, Gallagher, Chalobah and Guehi. I can't even remember how good or bad Remy and Bamford did at Palace. That's going back nearly 10 years with those two.

Apparently in our panic to get a signing in at the end of summer aka Broja, we didn't negotiate a break clause. We are trying to get Chelsea to recall him due to the injury so we can free up a loan space and as you'd expect they're saying, yeah no...or pay up. Not good (from our side).

A few dodgy results and they're back to wanting to sign half a new team again.

So if I'm following correctly they want to move on Nkunku to Bayern to get in Tel as a support striker? But hang on Maresca really rates Delap so he'd be an alternative in the summer to challenge Jackson and then Tel goes to third choice?

But wait Garnacho has spat out his dummy at Man. United so of course he needs to be signed to keep Sancho and the other 23 wide players company in the extended dressing room. Or perhaps that one is just agent talk. Or Madueke is getting sold soon because Maresca finds him difficult to manage?

I was actually surprised Chalobah was so willing to come back mid season. Playing really well and regularly at Palace and he was treated poorly at Chelsea in pre season. Can only think he's been promised it will be him and Colwill as the CB combination even when the others are fit again otherwise I struggle to see the logic.

Hopefully Chalobah can keep this up and form a long-term partnership with Colwill.

They are slightly better than last year, but I don’t see the hype they got and I doubt this manager will last very long.

A bit oportunistic, they have been playing quite a bit worse than when they receive the praise. It's like thinking that today's Foden is the one from most part of this season

Robert Sanchez now at 5 errors leading to a goal this season. Kepa in his Chelsea career with 4x the appearances was at 4 errors.

It's absolutely unconscionable that he keeps playing. He is beyond atrocious and his dogshit distribution has a ripple effect on the rest of the team in terms of losing control.

If only you had other goalkeepers on your books...

I know a lot of people don't want to sell Garnacho to Chelsea through fear of strengthening a rival but if they spend £60m on Garnacho instead of getting a better GK or striker then surely we are weakening them

Chelsea should be embarrased by that performance, especially when they gifted the opposition all 3 goals as well

Agreed. Unbelievably bad. The team is out of sorts. Every game is a huge struggle. City were nothing special. They were pretty bad themselves actually. We were just worse.

It's crazy. Jorgensen has looked absolutely miles better - and doesn't cause alarm bells any time he gets the ball.

I just don't understand how these decisions are being made - much like Disasi playing instead of Acheampong.

The thing is when Jorgensen has been given chance in non-conference league games, he’s looked shaky too but I guess when you’ve only played 8 games in 6 months, you’re bound to be to rusty when you’re suddenly thrown into a league game. I’d bench Sanchez and never give him a single minute again and then boot him out of the club in the summer. Awful player. Makes everyone around him nervous.

Has he? Beyond the Ipswich match where the penalty he conceded was one of the worst calls of the season I don't think he's done too much wrong unlike the dipshit we are currently playing instead.

Newcastle game in the league cup. He was a bag of nervous and I think he cost us a goal, I haven’t watched the game back so could be wrong but he was definitely all over the place. There was another game where we won despite him being all over the place, I think it was vs Morecambe.

Fair enough; missed the Newcastle match so can't really comment. Didn't notice anything untoward from him in the Morecambe match but then again my memory is terrible so I could be completely wrong.

Still think at this point he deserves a run in the first team. Think a big part of why we lost control was City just pressed higher and Sanchez was incapable of finding the spare man repeatedly.

Yeah he’s had some shaky moments when given the chance outside of the conference league but I’d still 100% start him asap.

They really missed Jackson when he went off, no presence or out ball in final third so the suggested swop of Garnacho/Nkunku confuses me a little.

Chelsea in the CL is not a done deal at all, loads of tough away games left on the schedule so it will come down I think to how good they are at Stamford Bridge in the run in.

Abysmal for the second goal. As soon as Haaland turns he needs to sprint back towards his goal. Instead he just dosen't move and it's a relatively simple lob.

Is Jorgensen deemed not ready or something? He was a regular for Villareal last season so he's coming from a very good league to adapt. Petkovic also wasn't that bad in the run in last season, if anything it should've been Sanchez loaned to Strasbourg.

I'm sure he'll get the freezing out treatment in the summer.

Petrovic was awful, pretty much all the underlying metrics had him as the worst (or second worst) keeper in the league.

Not convinced Jorgensen is much better either but at this point you need to make a change when the keeper is making mistakes almost weekly.

We look every bit the private equity designed football club unfortunately. I think the biggest mistake has been giving Enzo the vice captaincy. The biggest issue we have now is in midfield, the Lavia injury, we've been shite since he got injured on 9th of December and that's not a coincidence. Enzo and Caicedo doesn't work as a midfield 2, we leak goals like a sieve. Poch also found that out stopped playing it using Gallagher and Caicedo instead.

Sanchez isn't perfect, but he's made big saves at times and is being unfairly scape goated, just like Kepa... was as he's being left exposed by our high line and dysfunctional midfield. It's interesting that Kepa is doing fine once the spot light is taken off him.
