Chelsea 2024/25

But can they? How has loaning players out year after year worked out for them or anyone else in the past?

Reece James and Colwill had loans and are now in the first team.

The likes of Mount and Gallagher had multiple loans and were sold for huge sums.

Obviously not every player is going to be sold for a lot but that doesn't need to happen for the model to be financially viable.

Will be amazed if they make a profit on caiceido or Enzo or mudryk.
Same. But on the other hand, they have the likes of Palmer, Jackson and Gusto who they will likely double their money on. So you can see the business logic behind signing all these youngsters. I wouldn’t enjoy it if I was a Chelsea fan though. It must be difficult to feel a connection between the team and the fans right now

I wonder if there are any Chelsea fans pining for the stability from when a murderous, mob boss oligarch owned the club.

Loooooaaaaadddddsss.

Literally loads. Not a day went by without hearing some fans talking about Abramovich. Obviously this ownership being batshit crazy is fuelling a lot of that but yeah,

Those aren’t them players the want to turn a profit on though. They were signed to directly improve the first team. It’s Santos, Angelo, that bloke we signed from the MLS, Guiu etc. It’s those players they’ve chosen to take a 5 to 20m punt on they want to turn a profit on. For example, I rate Santos very highly and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he impressed at Strasbourg that PSG or some other team come for him for double or triple what we signed him for.

It was only 18 months ago when they signed a bunch of wingers in one window. Madueke, Mudryk, Chukwuemeka, Sterling (granted, he's probably past it now). It's just rinse and repeat with all these youngsters coming in and out the door.

Sterling I thought was a really good signing because he would fit they system, sadly that hasn't worked out. Madueke, Mudryk and Chukwuemeka were always going to be bench signings with future potential rather than immediate first team players.

That being said, thinking about it more, Neto would fit in the same category as Madueke etc so one can say it's rinse and repeat, like you mentioned, rather than getting a truly quality player who can come into your first team. He has better credentials coming in in terms of playing well for a Prem side but still not sure if he's good enough to be a starter for a top 4 team.

I suppose what they might look for as a formation with Sterling-Nkunku-Palmer behind Jackson but then there is still the issue of a quality striker, which Jackson hasn't looked like

Every player at every club is a soulless property.

And the reason they all want to join? We make them millionaires and secure their financial futures for life.
Now I understood. Its not only Chelsea thing then.

Eventually they'll have to sell some of these players and probably accept that they'll be making a loss on them, right? There could be some really good market opportunities for many teams, United included. I'd definitely take a lot of their players for the right price.

Of course. They'll make a loss on some and a profit on others. The hope is that overall, they're up.

I don't think even the most deluded person at Chelsea expects to make a profit on every single one of them.

I wonder what the players are thinkink, when signing for you these days.

Neto is perfect example of what I mean.

He's joining the team who, in his position, already have:

Palmer, one of the best right sided wingers in the world (definitely a future for him centrally IMO, maybe even better for him to eventually move there, but I have no idea whether that's the long-term plan with him or not)

Madueke, a highly rated right winger who only joined 18 months ago

Estevao and Páez, arguably the two most talented right wingers coming out of South America - in the last, let's say 24 months - both will have turned 18 already at the start of the 2025/26 season.

And then Sterling can play there as well.

How will Madueke develop with limited game time? Where's the pathway for the two South American kids? How much does Neto play if he manages to avoid injuries?

I find it weird that so many players are still seemingly very willing to join Chelsea at this point, especially at a young age where their development is crucial.

His main issue has been staying fit. When available there aren't that many players around who have his combination of pace, dribbling, directness and delivery. He should be scoring more than he does though, not sure why his record is so poor as it's not like he can't strike the ball well.

Quite a big issue, but yes we’ll see. I can’t see him being anything other than a bit part player for a top team. I’d be fuming if we spent £50 million on him. I’m pretty confident saying that he will never get numbers close to Rashford’s best couple of seasons.

If by numbers you mean goals then yeah I doubt he'll ever get near that but he's more of a provider than a scorer, if we're talking goals and assists then I think he can.

Two seasons ago Rashford got 17 goals and 5 assists, I could see Neto getting something like 7 goals and 15 assists if he stayed relatively injury-free but that's a big if. History says he'll only ever be available for half the season.

Neto can play left wing as well though, that's what he played mostly his first couple of seasons with Wolves.

They're such a bunch of weirdos, It's like they're compelled to spend the Gallagher money the second they know they have it,

I hope they don't get a transfer ban, as it would actually help them out right now.

Hadn't actually seen their home kit up until now. Whoever designed this and whoever approved it must stand trail for offensive imagery. Easily one of the worst home kits I have ever seen. Just... wow!

Looks like a Powerpoint effect.

Read some guy saying it looks like a bus seat cover and it's the most accurate description.

Absolutley disgusting treatment. I can see some serious unrest with the owners if results don't go well. A lot of local fans and who actually go to games week in / week out are feeling the heart and soul of the club is being ripped out.

Been at Chelsea since he was 9 years old and hasn't done anything wrong. Absolutely disgusting behaviour.

We don't need him to. Palmer, Christo (touch wood fitness pending) and Jackson have us covered in the goals department.

They didn’t last year, especially if the penalty count goes back down to normal this year.

Chelsea have averaged about 10 penalties per season the last 5 seasons or so.

You received 12 PL penalties last season. More than any other club. In comparison, you were only awarded 3 penalties the season before. Last season definitely felt like a higher number than usual. And Palmer is an exceptional penalty taker.

The owners taking the NFL approach to "soccer".

In NFL your allowed a 90 man squad in preseason which is then cut to 53 for the actual season (active roster) and a 16 man practice squad.

If any club will ever benefit from transfer ban, its probably Chelsea. At this point you have to think they have some sort of transfer addiction

I remember back 5 years ago when they had a transfer ban. They seem to love transfers as much as Cookie Monster loves cookies.

I have to say this if any young player strong enough to hold club for ransom please don't whine about the player. If you want to be ruthless then have to take it's side effect too.

Reece James out for another month now... Getting started early with the injuries this season. Oh well, his contract is only until 2028, he might play 50 more games before that, if we're lucky.
