Chelsea 2023/24 season thread.

Oh yeah, maybe the cheap digs at United and ETH from our own fans in this and the PL thread can stop now for a while until Poch‘s brilliant team scores their next goal.

They actually do sign plenty of bargains as well as spend big money on what they deem to he top talent. How much was their goal scorer today again? And the RB replacing James? And the starting keeper?
Jesus give it a rest will ya ffs. It's bad enough reading the shite in the Eth thread.

Tuchel might be the most expensive sacking of all time in football. Whatever followed has been nothing less of a shitshow. I bet the Chelsea before the Boehly was stronger than current Chelsea.

Are Chelsea fans around here still creaming about this draw at home against Liverpool ?

Who would have guessed that spending a billion in mostly average players was a bad idea?

Caceido and Enzo will likely be a good midfield, the problem is they've spent close to a billion and haven't upgraded at all from the Havertz - Werner - Mount trio they had under Tuchel.

Of course back then they also had a fit Reece James, a fit Chilwell, a god tier Kante and a younger Kovacic. But they've spent a lot of money and gotten worse.

Think Jackson sums them up a bit. Great pace and some good runs but he's already showing a tendency for wild or scuffed finishing from very presentable crosses, can't believe he didn't get any contact on that cross Sterling put in near the end of the first half.

What's with the locks on the Poch and Caicedo threads?

No, both can be shit.
Well posts such as „Poch has them playing better in their 2nd game than ETH“ don’t make sense then if both are shit. At least wait until the game is over. Or „Poch has scored more goals than ETH“. Great, he has also conceded more and has less points. Children and crybabies on the Caf.

Guessing they'll have a strong September but then really struggle after the October international break. Their run after that break until Dec 6th is:
  • Arsenal
  • Brentford
  • Spurs
  • City
  • Newcastle
  • Brighton
  • United
Brutal.

Two games in is still very, very early days. And they've had two tough fixtures.

They will turn it around with the players they have at their disposal and the manager in charge. Especially when Caicedo is starting alongside Fernandez.

They are both shit to me, I don't care what others say.

For once I would like to see a Chelsea coach not immediately pivot back to 3atb. I have no idea why Poch went away from what was working so well in preseason.

That's harsh - any team in this league (bar City) could go through that list and end up with 0 points

They'll have a good run from next week til early October with an easy next 7. Their 7 games after that are nightmarish though, playing all but Liverpool and villa from the top 10 in that run.

Yup it's a brutal run. Early stage management is all about getting results over the line through runs like those and staying in line with your goals, keeping the faith. Ten hag managed it, let's see how Poch does it.

They do have to face most of the better teams in the league in a row, yes, but I would prefer if we reserve the notion of a "brutal run" for fixture runs that include midweek international games. What is so brutal about having a whole week before a game against Brentford and then (possibly) another whole week to prepare for Spurs? And half of these teams are not exactly world beaters either.

You buy average player, you get average results.
You take average manager, you get average results.
You get strange owner, you get average results.

It is nothing strange.

Playing a lot of teams there with European football distractions and Chelsea rested before games.

No, I remember posts about how player x was who we should have signed etc etc.
Nothing to do with price.
I honestly don’t think you’d be posting like this if he played for us, we just lost v 10 men with 4 shots on target from 17 shots.
We would be told how he was the cheap option etc etc.
my point is we just have to wait.
If he was the only striker bought, yes, but they bought Nkunku too. So my point stands, there are solid young strikers out there for around 30m

Solid young strikers isn’t enough for a starting number 9 though. I’m sure there’s many players out there available for 30m?

Chelsea fans probably praying for a quick resolution in Ukraine so Abramovich can buy the team again

Part of me wishes Chelsea to fail badly for a couple more seasons just to see how Boehly will react. I have an inkling it will be a classic case of privatise the profits and socialise the losses.
