Charlie Adam | Set for talks with Liverpool

I thought Adam was very over-rated but then watching him a bit more, he does seem like a very good player.

Not top 4-5 quality though.

I think the likes of Everton,Sunderlan and teams fighting for the top 10 could really do well with him.

Why would you think him overrated? He has a great passing range, is comfortable in possession, good vision, scores goals and has one of the best set piece deliveries in the prem.

What is there to underrate?

Sorry, but i get really frustrated by this 'not top 4' or 'not good enough for united' bollocks. Who would have thought Park or Fletcher would have been good enough for Utd? Or Valencia? Adam has been much more impressive for B'pool than Valencia ever was for Wigan or Park for PSV.

The only question should be whether he has the mentality to be able to do for Utd what he has done all season for Blackpool? The only way to answer that question is to give him a chance at a top club.

There is simply no reasonable way to determine that he isn't good enough for a top 4 club just because he plays for B'pool. If you have quality and talent and have time to improve, then there is absolutely no valid reason why he should not be able to perform at a higher standard for a bigger club, just like Park and Valencia have done.

This. Sick of reading 'not United quality' constantly, nobody is United quality unless they are already world class. We make them United quality through training. We take people who play well at lower clubs and we make them better players.

Not a chance

I would have to agree, surely he cannot afford to risk many of our top players against a B'pool side who will be fighting for survival.

I suspect SAF ideally would like to put out a side similar to the one who entertained Schalke at home, but i doubt he would get away with it.

So i expect Rio, Giggs, Vidic, Valencia, Park, Rooney, Carrick and Hernandez to be rested and the likes of Berba, Scholes, Fletcher, Smalling, Evans, Anderson, Nani etc to come in.

Still be a strong team and we will get a look at how Charlie Adams copes being Blackpool's main man on a big stage when it really matters.

Very true. I fail to see why players who perform at a consistently high standard, showing good attitude and quality and who frequently shine for their respective teams, are not considered good enough to play for a bigger club.

Surely the fact their levels of performance and influence are so obviously superior to their current teammates, can only indicate that they are indeed capable of playing at a higher level.

In my view the mentality of the player is just as important as their quality when playing for a club like Utd. Talent isn't everything, look at Berbatov. He has all the talent in the world but he has neither the confidence nor the desire to be able to reproduce his best form under the most intense pressure.

Fletcher is the opposite, he has the desire but unfortunately not the talent. If Fletcher can make it relying mainly on his determination and confidence, then why would the technically superior Charlie Adam not enjoy similar success should he show similar desire and determination?

I don't think he'd be that good a signing for us to be honest. He looks good for his goals and some nice skill this season. But I have seen a few games for Blackpool where he has been distinctly average. Obviously, the good far outweighs the bad, but I don't think he is United quality or will be regardless of the special coaching that we seem to have.

He's fat, not mobile, and Carrick is far better. We need better than him. I think he's worth a punt but only as a back up.

He seems to have that extra little something about him that suggests he could do well with us.

Modric would be better but I would be satisfied with Adam BUT delighted to have the Dutchman who would be the best of the 3

Just don't think this is true under any measure. Park was great at PSV, ripped apart Milan in a champions league semi and Valencia was impressive at Wigan, its not random that both Real Madrid and United were both after him.

I think the whole being punished for "fielding a weakened team" is a farce. Fergie should put out the same team as which comfortably beat Schalke in the Champions League.

If the FA ask us to name a 25 man squad they cant start fecking complaining about which members of that squad we can and cant use. Who are they to judge whether a player is "good enough" to play for us without it being a supposedly weakened team?

Park played well in that particular game admittedly, but in general for PSV i don't think he was that impressive. Valencia was always a talent but for me and i watched him quite a lot was sometimes impressive for Wigan, but imo not as regularly stand out as Charlie Adam for Blackpool this year. Adam has dominated midfields, scored goals, made goals and in generally shown some real quality and consistent performances.

I take your point about us and Madrid being interested in Valencia, but he made his mark over a couple of seasons at Wigan. If stories are to be believed Adam had Utd, Spurs and Liverpool suitably impressed after only a few months such was the level of his impact.

Over a half a season can you really say that Valencia stood out for Wigan like Adam has this season for Blackpool?

I completely agree, but unfortunately the FA have already done Wolves for it, and if they are not be accused of double standards, they will have to act.

Especially if we consider what the possible implications may be for other clubs involved in the relegation battle, should Blackpool actually win against a similar line up to the one we played at home to Schalke.

I'll put it in here seeing as my thread was locked. I have no proof or evidence that we'll sign Adam but the more time goes on the more I'm sure we'll sign him.

I'm not being muppety, I've always maintained I don't think he's good enough but it's just a feeling I have.

At the start of next season our central midfielders will be Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson and Adam with the likes of Giggs, Cleverley and Park that can also play there.

There will be no big blockbuster signing IMO.

I'll be amazed if we don't sign ANYONE in midfield this summer (besides Adam)

The problem with Adam is he's no better than what we already have. We need to splash the cash on someone that is going to significantly improve us. I don't see the point in buying another steady squad player.

I am so glad you are not in charge of United's transfers. We should not be aiming for midfielders of relegated teams like Adam and Parker. They are not United quality.

"United quality" is a myth. Personally I don't see Adam as being anything more than a squad player if he came here, competing with Ando and Gibson for starts. With Giggs and Scholes nearing the end we need to bring in some true creative class in CM IMO.

I feel he played well in parts today. However, I dont think he's exceptional enough to dismiss our kids. That said, his freekicks were top drawer.

A bit of topic, but I do not feel realy comfortable with ando in the side, occasionally he has a good game.but he does not reaally look like a natural footballer to me.Strange saying that seeing he is a brazillian.

Erm.... I don't want us to sign Adam.

Anderson has been very good at home all season.

Fergie said he'll make signings to improve the quality of the team. Signing Adam would be an improvement of the squad imo, not first team.

12 goals from midfield in that blackpool team, that would do for me.how many times do we score from corners or set pieces, not many.

How many have been pens though? Must be at least 5.

Still impressive though.

bloody hell cw we nearly agree on something...I think fergie has already done a deal for him,he can also put himself about as well,he nearly snapped bale in half earlier in the season. We lack a bit of that.
