Champions League Semi Finals (24th April - 2nd May)

How are Liverpool fans feeling about tonight?

Liverpool are obvious favourites, but Roma are good at set pieces and it's Liverpool's weakness. I expect Dzeko to get an away goal.

“Run really fast and try to score five goals in the first twenty minutes...”

A fantastic insight into why we’ve scored so many goals this season.

It's actually slightly legit. Liverpool are much weaker at the end of games, conceding goals in the last 15 minutes at a mid table rate, while not scoring any more than other top 6 clubs.

City and Utd are very strong at closing games, with the best ratio of goals scored to conceded in the last 15 minutes.

Klopp likes to start the game at a high intensity to get a goal or two, which forces the opponent to chase a goal. Liverpool are at their best when teams are trying to score against them. It's why Mourinho has you on toast, he'll play extremely safe against you and try to exploit your backline with long balls.

In an ideal world we'd have Bayern vs Roma in the final.

Real have been so poor this year that in reality they don't really deserve to win it, should have been done by Juve after conceding that lead, broke my heart a little when they won that penalty.

Roma needs no explanation, anyone but Liverpool winning the UCL is better. Also got to like the plucky underdogs beating the big boys. Plus they've definitely shown that capacity to beat bigger teams this year. So one can hope.

As for the winner of my dream final. Roma for the fairytale. Then at the same time I'd love for Heynckes to win it again, would really highlight Pep's failures in Europe without messi to drag him over the line.

They're predicting the score: 1-2.

Maybe not as quick as Rashford, but they certainly have pacy, elusive wide players in Under, Florenzi, El Shaarawy and Perrotti, to name a few. Roma have beaten some excellent teams in this year's competition and to write them off on their (modest, in contrast) league form would be a foolhardy task. Their team is littered with experience at the top level in De Rossi, Strootman, Kolarov, Dzeko etc.

Liverpool, with their usual 'Let's run really fast and try score five goals in the first twenty minutes' shtick, could fade in the final quarter and if Roma are still in the game by that point, I wouldn't be surprised to see them nick it. If Klopp tries to harness Dzeko by deploying van Dijk on him whichever side the Bosnian takes up (like he should've done against us with Lukaku at Old Trafford), I can see that spooking Lovren to the extent he won't look comfortable in the LCB role (a role he's always looked suspect in, to be honest) and I can see Roma's pacy wide men creating problems down that channel.

Under, like what I've seen of him.

Fingers crossed! Looking forward to it.

I have seen Roma ten times or more this season in different games in Italy and haven’t been impressed at all. Very often all over the place, leaving way too much room for the other team to exploit. They also have a lot of characters in their team and will of course play the Italian way tonight, but they might just be stupid enough to go all out attack if chasing a goal too. Against Lazio the other day there were so much room left behind, which would be suicide tonight.

Don't be. Roma will give Liverpool a footballing lesson.

I very much doubt it.

The rollercoaster of beating Barca was (understandably) like a final for Roma, they'll be spent now.

I predict 3-0 Liverpool tonight and then a comfy 2nd game for them.

I just hope that Real or Bayern do the decent thing and beat them in the final.

Will be interesting to see how Eusebio sets Roma up.

He's used all sorts of different setups this season, back threes, back fours, front threes, front twos, a holding midfielder, a number 10 etc.

Worry about the likes of Kolarov and Fazio against the quick Liverpool frontline. But midfield they have enough quality to slow the game down and dictate the tempo.

Nice touch from AS Roma

Hmm I don’t get why they did this.
If Rush and Souness were smiling and flipping off the Roma crest they would be (rightly) criticised for it.
They might be joking but it’s classless.

For the match itself, 3-1 Liverpool with Dzeko to score a header and Pool front 3 grab one each.

I think it’s a lazy analysis. We concede late on in games because we still have game management issues but that’s not related to our occasional fast starts. We’re not conceding late on in games because we’re knackered, we’re conceding because of collective/individual errors.

Liverpool have struggled against any side that knows how to defend.. or can set themselves up to defend..

City don't do that. That is the only "top" side they have had any joy against.

Experienced Italian side coming to a European away game... Roma know what to do.

Hope you're right.

I just feel that Barca game was a highly emotional one for them and the trip to Anfield will be a little too soon afterward for them to gather themselves and hold that same focus.

I can see Liverpool brushing them aside tonight.

I still don't fancy them to stop our front three over 90 minutes. If we concede less than 2 away goals tonight, I'm confident we can nullify any away goal shenanigans going against us.

Hoping for 2-0/3-1 at a minimum. Whatever we end up with, the trip to Rome is going to be an incredibly difficult game.

They wouldn't be 3rd in the league if that was true.

Of course it's not true, that Roma defence isn't an "experienced Italian side" either like they used to have ten to fifteen years ago.

I love all the "wait wait it won't be as easy as they think it is because Roma ..." comments, whilst no one is even thinking it will be easy in the first place.

Too many people writing off Liverpool in here. They’re a very good side and Anfield will be rocking.

2-1 to Liverpool tonight.

2-1 to Roma next week.

Extra time and penalties.

Heart:
Roma knick it 1-0

Head: Liverpool 3:1 :(

Easy 4-0 home win at Anfield. Liverpool are too good for Roma.

Liverpool are favourites in this tie and rightly so. But Roma are no pushovers and will give them a tough game. Roma need to score today even if they end up losing as I can't see them keeping a clean sheet in the return leg.
