Champions League Semi Finals (24th April - 2nd May)

But Lewy was alone on the way to score the 2:0 before but was whistled back - but that was not offside...

I think that that the offside for that own goal was pretty difficult to see - whereas the offside calls later weren't. And whereas Vidal might have been the early culprit - and no referee gives a red card that early - Casemiro was nearer to a red card than Vidal was later on. And when he got the red card it was no foul.

But - for me that does not really matter as I believe we were lucky to be in the competition still at this time. Ancelotti overused several players and they weren't in the right form - and his squad selection was not right either. Vidal was played in every match in that weeks and as seen in the Confed Cup, too, he cannot go that load for full 90 minutes. Martinez red card in the first match was a result of that. A little bit stupid, yes, but he was brought into that situation as the midfielders weren't in position.

The assistants were absolutely awful, no doubt, and you are completely right about the offside calls, but I don't share your conclussions about Vidal who should have seen the red card three times before the play you refer to. The tackle from behind on Isco was a straight red and a pretty dangerous one too if you ask me, another tackle on Casemiro (before he started to get into trouble) would have deserved the second yellow, and Vidal hitting Kroos' face with his elbow (this one gets barely commented) was a clear aggression and again a straight red. Once again, it's about Bayern being down to ten men away at the Bernabeu, and at the end of the day that's what influences the draw the most. All in all, the refereeing was horrendous, and VAR would have been of great use, but if we are to analyze how right decisions would have influenced the games, which is what some people apparently want, we should start from the beginning.

I don't normally care much about these decisions, but after the Juventus games I've noticed a tendency not to analyze all the calls evenly, and I'm not sure why. If this is a campaign or not, I cannot really tell, but I just hope it doesn't influence the referee negatively for the semifinals and we can focus on football, coaches, tactics, players and all.

Neutral fans wouldn't either. I guess it has something to do with the refreree being biased towards Real, as he clearly gave them an advantage even all other things considered.

More like Madrid haters you mean.

Bayern goal was clearly offside in the second leg and as it stands they shouldn't have got to the extra time from the start. Ref helped Madrid with mistakes in extra time, but he also helped Bayern reach the extra time itself.

My two cents about Liverpool and Roma.

Liverpool are a way more dynamic side than Roma and this could help them big time. Liverpool can run 120 km with high intensitiy which is impossible for Roma. Barca made it possible for Roma to compete because their intensity isn't top class. Liverpool are different.

But...Liverpool are not underdogs this time, the expectations are high which could make them nervous. Unlike City, Roma have nothing to lose. Further, Roma have the players to bypass Liverpool's pressing in the middle of the park. Unlke Jesus/Aguero, Dzeko can create problems in the air. Finally, Liverpool were quite lucky with referee decisions in the previous tie. Now they could go Roma's way.

City came to Anfield and tried to play their normal game which was arrogance on their behalf...Roma will adjust tactically. Too close to call.

Quite nervous about this one at home. Don't think we'll quite have the repeat of that City performance at Anfield. On the other hand am strangely confident we can get a good result at the Studio Olympico.

Thought first leg was at Roma.

Hopefully Roma will get away goal and smash them.

I can see Liverpool battering Roma tonight never mind over the 2 legs.

Real vs Bayern should be good but can see it being full of controversy again.

I get the feeling that Roma will have prepared for what we have to throw at them far better than City did.

Nerves kicking in. :nervous:
Liverpool are the better team and are deservedly favorites to reach the final, unfortunately.

I think we'll have to blast them away in the first 20 minutes or so in order for it to be a comfortable game (and win) for us, and the atmosphere could really lift the players to a higher level tonight. If we go into HT with 0-0, I can easily see us struggle to break the deadlock. I think we'll win but am afraid they'll terrorize us with long balls to Dzeko and score an away goal. However, I'm a bit more confident going to Rome than I was going to City last round.

I'll reserve that confidence for when I know what we're going to Rome with :D Really wanted the second leg at home, but you have to believe that if they get an away goal tonight, we can definitely get one ourselves next week.

Yeah, of course we can. Barcelona were just unbelievably poor two weeks ago. Most of the times, we're actually better going out all guns blazing rather than starting the game to defend a lead (which we saw in the first half against City), so definitely feel we can win in Rome, hopefully that's not needed though.

I think it's been almost been four years since that game against Chelsea I've been this excited for a game of ours, apart from maybe the EL final against Sevilla.

You gonna crash them 5-0 at Anfield, there’s literally no chance in a hell Roma is getting anything from the game. You simply have to much for them. You should already be preparing for the final.

I think that's the least subtle jinx attempt I've ever seen :D But I hope you're right.

Nice touch from As Roma.

I agree .

All these we will smash them shouts are wind up merchants. I think we maybe in for a shock tonight being honest. I reckon we can and will score in Rome though.

I'll be supporting Roma almost as vociferously as I do United tonight. Dzeko hattrick please.

Eight hours till kick off and my hands are already sweaty. Nervous as feck for this game. Can't say I know a lot about Roma, but the fact that they beat Barca 3-0 shows class.

I'm also afraid nerves will kick in for a few of our players, as most have never played a game of this magnitude. Particularly if we haven't scored by half time.

Anything but a comfortable pool win would surprise me

Don't see Roma going through honestly. To be perfectly honest I'd rather have a Bayern - Liverpool final with Bayern winning it then a Roma - Bayern final. Roma are a bit boring to me and even though I don't want Liverpool to win the CL, a final with them is bound to be more spectacular than a final with Roma.

Also, Björn Kuipers as the ref for Real - Bayern. Wouldn't want to be in his shoes honestly. Pressure will be fecking immense after last year (was it last year?).

Just can’t see Roma getting anything out of the game tonight, unfortunately.

Exactly.

There is a way to play against Liverpool, just look at Jose. No taking away from their brilliant attack and pressing up front but they are weak as shit in midfield and defense if you break past the press. Route one ball is a way to counter this. Also man mark Salah out of the game. Rumour has it he's still trying to get the ball in Old Trafford.

There is a reason Liverpool were knocked out of the FA Cup by Westbrom, League Cup by Leicester and are 3rd in the league. If you set up to counter act their tactics, you'll stand a much better chance of drawing/winning. If you play an open attacking game and luck is on their side they'll beat you (See City PL, City CL x2).

I’m worried Liverpool will blow them away in the first leg. In the final they could easily beat Bayern or Real in a one of game. In fact I’d make them favourites.

You worry too much, they will have a very hard time to win Roma. In the final the have at most 20% chances of winning Madrid or Bayern. Keep calm.

Pool beat Roma and Real beat Bayern
Then Real beat Pool 5-0 in the finals and then we can show them 5 when they show us 5

Hahahaha if Madrid manages to get past Bayern, you have a big chance of seeing your dream come true!

The offside wasn't difficult to see bro, it was pretty clear. We are also forgetting the penalty the ref awarded Bayern in the first game?

And about Vidal, a red is a red bro, it doesn't matters if it is too early. Still he deserved it 2 more times after the first one, so I can't understand why the people get that angry. Yes, the one that got him the red wasn't a red, but he should never get till that moment on the pitch.

Real benefitted massively from ref "errors" to even get to extra time.

Can you mention how Madrid got benefitted massively to even get to extra time, and not Bayern? I'm pretty sure you don't even believe yourself, one of the most ridiculous posts I've seen, you're trolling.

Madrid was benefitted in the extra time, before that the team that was 'massively beneffited to even get to the extra time' was Bayern.

But please, enlighten us please!

No, neutral fans.
As I said before, if you take everything into account, he gave Real an advantage.

Please tell us how he gave Madrid an advantage before the extra time and not Bayern. Please! :wenger::confused:

I’d like to see Roma win it, not because it would involve Liverpool going out but have soft spot for Italian football and would like to see Rome back on the footballing map. My preference to win the trophy in order would be

Roma
Bayern
Real Madrid
The Manson family

Liverpool

Can we finally move on from last year's quarter final? This is utterly pointless.

For me it's
Bayern
Roma

Donald Trump

Liverpool

Kim Jong Un

Nickelback

Xenomorphs

Freeza from DBZ

Real

I don't like Real.

Roma will not get hammered like City did. They will sit with 2 lines of 4 and not give up the massive spaces Guardiola did.

Nickelback...wow...that's way beyond disliking Real mate. That's plain nasty.

Roma will get destroyed. Easy win for pool

Prove me wrong you feckers

I think Roma will go with the 5-3-2 approach, double mark Salah and pump long balls to Dzeko and Shaarawy will make the supporting runs.

I'm glad these teams didn't draw a big team they drew each other, going to be a very good and close match in my opinion

Real Madrid will have too much for Bayern Munich. And even if it's a close game likelihood is the refs will swing it their way as usual.
Liverpool vs Roma depends on 1st leg result. If Roma draw or win they will be too strong in the Olimpico. Liverpool must take a solid lead to Rome like they did to City to have a good chance of progression.

I presume all the people saying Liverpool will win comfortably are trying to do the old jinx thing? Or have you just never seen Roma play? I think Liverpool will edge it over two legs, but I'd be shocked if it's a thrashing.

I can't see past Liverpool going through.

I think Roma peaked against Barcelona. Hope I'm wrong. Hope De Rossi absolutely clatters Henderson.
