Champions League Semi Finals (24th April - 2nd May)

It's funny to see that people are still debating over last years Bayern - Madrid. I think the Bayern fellows should accept the way things went while the Madrid lot has to acknowledge that the majority of people think that the Refs were giving an advantage to them. Either way, you can't change it anymore, it's history.

Looking forward to the semis, I think Bayern - Real is too close to call. Liverpool should be the favorites going into it, but the Champions League showed time and time again that at this stage it's usually down to form of the day, picking the right tactics, referee decisions and injuries / availability of key players. I hope to see a Bayern - Rome final though.

Souness looks like a cock and arrogant as feck in this. For all you kiddies who are too young to remember it is the 1984 European Cup Final in Rome against Roma.
Edited it for you, can't stand the bloke, I've never seen such a bitter and partial pundit. Great player though apparently, used to go around kicking people a lot..

Expect Liverpool to score early and end up with 4/5. They're tailored to this competition this year it seems.

This one will be much closer than the City games. Italians usually care about defending, so I don't see us having more than a 2 goal lead. Also I feel they will dictate the tempo in the first game, busparking when we're in posession and playing long balls.

Paying respect at Hillsborough memorial is a huge gesture.

Edin's too hot. 2-0 Roma.
a player like him had to become 32 years old to play his first CL half final. Strange football world. I always liked him and would have cheered if he had gone our (=Bayerns) way instad of going to City. After Lewa, he's more or less the perfect modern attacker with no weaknesses.

alisson
florenzi manolas fazio kolarov
nainggolan de rossi strootman
under (schick) dzeko perotti (el sha)

or

alisson
fazio manolas juan jesus
florenzi de rossi strootman kolarov
nainggolan
schick (under) Dzeko

Not an easy choose

Well done. Ta .

It certainly is as they didn't have to do it.

Roma winning the CL would be the dream result. Always had a soft spot for them since CM 01/02 when I played as them quite often.

Anyway.

Iam off to town to ask a few of them ' What did you ever do for us ' ?

Liverpool - Roma 3-0

Bayern - Real Madrid 2-2

Real Madrid - Bayern 3-2

Roma - Liverpool 2-2

Final: Liverpool - Real Madrid 3-4

I have a feeling that this year's final will be one of the most entertaining ones ever.

If Madrid serve up the same shite they have for the majority of the season, they're in for a surprise vs Bayern.

Madrid and Liverpool should be favorites to progress but I find the scorelines impossible to predict. I'm gonna say both Madrid & Bayern to win away.

If Madrid play like they've been playing then they're in trouble. They got very lucky to come out with those results against PSG and Juve, PSG were the better team for 80 minutes at the Bernabeu and 11 against 11 Juve were the better team in that tie too.

Modric needs to step up and their defense is a huge problem. Bayern won't need to do much to get chances to score.

Looking at Roma’s goal scorers for this season, it looks like Dzeko is the main goal threat with 20 goals in all competitions but they don’t score a lot?

I'm strangely very calm for tonight - a complete contrast to how I felt before the City games. It almost feels like that was more of an occasion than this semi-final, which hopefully isn't replicated in the performance of the players.

As for the result, Roma are an unknown quantity really. Looking at the starting line up on paper, there's nobody who really stands out as a massive threat. Watching them vs Lazio last week - they looked one paced. Although any team who beat Barcelona 3-0 are a dangerous animal.

Additionally, things always go massively tits up for Liverpool in recent years whenever we're favourites. I hope we can buck the trend this time around.

Tomorrow is Italian liberation day. A good day to beat ze germans

Forza Roma!
Nervous for tonight can't bear the thought of that lot winning it. I imagine Roma will need an away goal tonight; and I reckon they'll get it.
Difficult one to call, think Liverpool will edge this leg 2-1.

Good read this and also a good insight into what happened the following year against Juventus.

I really really hope there won't be any troubles with the fans but i fully expect the roma ultras to come after you guys next week in Rome. If you go or know anyone who's going be very careful. The city has proved time and again it is woefully incapable of stopping ultras violence

these historical/political connections are kind of cringy in modern Europe, don't you agree? And considering Italy's role, especially that one.
'Tis a joke, i'm not making any political connections here

Early predictions:

Liverpool 2-1 Roma
Bayern 1-1 Real Madrid

Real Madrid 1-2 Bayern
Roma 2-0 Liverpool

quite a strange wording then, I guess. But nevermind. I guess I'm overly sensitive for this kind of stuff.
I'm italian, and a real madrid fan. Tomorrow we celebrate the liberation of northern italy from the occupation of nazi germany and mussolini's regime. We play a german team in a SF. It's a joke. No political meaning or connection

Sort of contradicted yourself here.

Hope Di Francesco is smart enough to avoid playing short with a high press, like City did and instead play like Mourinho did. Go direct to Dzeko with a quick winger looking to get at Trent. Do they have anyone as quick as Rashford?

Just keep it tight and look to grab an away goal please.

They scored 4 against Barcelona

100-0 to Liverpool, and Anfield to turn into a giant Transformer & sack Rome like the Visigoths.

Maybe not as quick as Rashford, but they certainly have pacy, elusive wide players in Under, Florenzi, El Shaarawy and Perrotti, to name a few. Roma have beaten some excellent teams in this year's competition and to write them off on their (modest, in contrast) league form would be a foolhardy task. Their team is littered with experience at the top level in De Rossi, Strootman, Kolarov, Dzeko etc.

Liverpool, with their usual 'Let's run really fast and try score five goals in the first twenty minutes' shtick, could fade in the final quarter and if Roma are still in the game by that point, I wouldn't be surprised to see them nick it. If Klopp tries to harness Dzeko by deploying van Dijk on him whichever side the Bosnian takes up (like he should've done against us with Lukaku at Old Trafford), I can see that spooking Lovren to the extent he won't look comfortable in the LCB role (a role he's always looked suspect in, to be honest) and I can see Roma's pacy wide men creating problems down that channel.

I'm no genius on Roma, I just look at their team and don't see much pace, which they'll need tonight on the counter attack.

I think they'll make it a close tie but don't see them having enough.

I think Bayern will beat Real Madrid.

Bayern to beat Liverpool in the final.

“Run really fast and try to score five goals in the first twenty minutes...”

A fantastic insight into why we’ve scored so many goals this season.

Bayern to beat Liverpool in the final.

I think they will come to sit deep, dig in and hope for a low scoring game, looking to lump the ball to Dzeko. They've got Nainggolan, Strootman and De Rossi who are capable of controlling the midfield and suffocating Liverpool's supply. If they can stop Liverpool scoring in the first 30 minutes, I think they will settle into it and the pressure will mount on Liverpool.

That being said, I'm definitely putting £20 on Liverpool to win.

Very hard to see Pool not winning at Anfield. I just want Roma to get an away goal that's all.

Yeah, such a shame Mourinho can't make Rashford, Martial or Alexis run that fast :p
