Champions League Round of 16 fixtures

Celtic attacked and attacked, they took the onus, it didn't work but I'm not sure what your point is? I don't really have sympathy for Celtic apart from the fact that they had to play against this disgusting set up. It's even worse when you consider Juve are fantastic to watch in the league. Flooding forward and dominating the whole pitch. If juve had come and played their usual game it would of been brilliant.

Oh come on mate, you're being a bit harsh on Juve. This is as professional, clinical and efficient a European away performance you're likely to see.

As a neutral you'd prefer a open, entertaining match but a 0-3 score away from home in a UCL knockout match? Classy performance. Game plan executed to perfection almost.

If this was United, I'd be a very happy man.

Criticizing Juventus's style tonight is a sign of clinical madness IMHO.Whatever the style, the results matter in the end and when it came to that no one should argue about it

It might have been a "disgusting setup", but this setup managed to score the necessary goals to virtually qualify themselves for the next round.

Nah Adds, it was awful, Conte should go home and have a long hard look at himself, leading his team to a pathetic 3-0 CL away win. Disgrace!

Cant stand it when commentators wank over shit british teams, if they were foreign they'd have laughed it off and said they just werent good enough.

They're in the last 16 of the champions league they're hardly a league 2 side who qualified by default

Juventus have been classy to be fair, didn't give Celtic a sniff, then knocked them out Ali Vs Foreman style.

One of the most classless clubs in Europe Spoony they should have got banned for life from all comps. Did much much worse than Lance Armstrong and this guy got banned for life. Yet what they got was paltry in comparison FIFA should have made an example of them.

I don't expect a team to open up. I do expect a team miles above their opponents level to dominate the play. Not just sit in their box and wait for them to tire.

Its a response to Celtics tactics, they were pressing Juventus like mad; don't expect Juventus to attempt to play out of the back when they're being hounded by 3 or 4 midfielders.

Ambrose's selection was strange tonight based on his lack of defensive ability let alone his fatigue

Lennon must take a lot of the blame

Celtic were far too gung-ho
Izaguirre and Luztig were like wingers and after they got done over the top for the first goal you'd think they'd play with a bit more intelligence and not keep such a high line

overall though - good try from them but a lack of quality in places cost them

What minute did Zlatan get sent off in ? Must have been late into the game.

FFS, this is Italian style of play. I got bored watching it when Celtic scored against Barcelona and decided to defend for the rest of the match. You live by the sword, you die by it. Italian style is to defend and the Celtic style is to attack, suffice to say, Celtics attacking style is shyte to say the least and I will not shed one single tear should they go out in the return leg.

I think Juventus played it perfectly

They soaked up the pressure and picked Celtic off

a bit like Celtic against Barca
a bit like Us against Barca in 08

do you not think Juve were showing Celtic some respect after they did so well in the group stages?

Amateur management. It could have been Baresi that he would still have performed badly.

Agree, I doubt anyone will be complaining tomorrow night If we park the bus for 90 minutes and knick a late goal.

thats complete bollocks though, i love how people who know nothing about scottish football believe this myth that their not good enough, would birmingham or wolves get this far in the champions league? they're there for a reason

God knows how my English was so bad in that post I'd had a few cans. They got there by defending with lucky breaks. They played other teams out rather than playing themselves through, you can only get away with that for so long before it catches up with you.

Celtic's major issue was shite passing and movement in the final third. There was no passing to feet in and around the box to get shots off, putting crosses into the box was futile as there was no real aerial threat from this Celtic side.. amount of possession they had this game, a 3-0 defeat must be heartbreaking.

Again against Barca! It's like us packing our box against reading! It's completely different doing it against people well below your level.

I'd take an even more 'negative' and defensive approach if it was a guarantee to win, whether it's against Real Madrid or the weakest team in the CL.

My point wasn't moot, I just said I haven't seen a good European game by United, that includes the group stages and the Europa League. It's your opinion that those games don't count.

Don't get me wrong, behind Real and Barça, United is the team I would least like to face, on par with Bayern. I think you would be favourites against Juve, for your ruthlessness upfront alone. I just don't think you're miles better, and that was the post I was replying to. 60-40 or something like that I'd say...
Yeah it's all a bit tongue in cheek, of course we were shite in Europe last season, but at the same time nobody really cares what we do in the group stage as long as we go through. The group games have become less interesting and less entertaining league cup games, it's been like that for a while now. (I'm allowed to be complacent, the players aren't.) I've not watched Juventus, I hardly watch Italian football, so I've no opinion on that.

Btw, with that tactic of defending corners that Juve were using with arms all around people, they are going to concede penalties at some stage.

Especially without a incompetent referee.

Well harsh result for Celtic but we did this kind of stuff quite a few times this season as well.

Have a bit luck defensively and be ruthless when it comes to taking advantage of opponents mistakes.

Yep and Celtic benefitted from just this sort of luck themselves in the competition, as well. Still, harsh loss and Juventus really showed some poise on both ends. Lichsteiner, was a douche tonight but Juve in general were sure getting away with clutching & grabbing on fks/corners all night. Now the world gets to see first hand what nonsense Mallenco allows in matches

Whats this about Celtic not taking their chances? They didnt create anything, it was all huff and puff with no end product. Hooper barely had a sniff. Can only remember Ambrose header being the one clear chance they had. Other than that it was all Kris Commons shooting weakly at Buffon from 18 yards.

"Miles above" is the type of arrogance that could get them knocked out. APOEL did it last year against Lyon, so could Celtic do against Juventus. They already won against Benfica and Barcelona this season.

Juventus was cautious with good reason. Celtic worked very hard and didn't allow them time and space to settle their game down as well. Why would they viciously fight against it when everything was running in their favour?

For what it's worth, I've seen United delivering the initiative (purposely or not) to inferior teams a whole lot of times this season and everyone seems pretty happy with the 12 points lead. I reckon it's not in such extreme ways as in today's game, but the principle is the same. Juventus fans are happy and don't care the least what neutrals think. Just like you lot around here. And it's their fans that Juventus has the obligation of trying to please.

Is this the very same Commons who used to play for the Rams...? Yup, Champions League quality right there mate.
