Champions League Round of 16 (15th Feb - 16th Mar)

Great to see Ajax go ahead. I wonder whether Portugese teams employee a simple flow chart which goes something like:

Any situation whatsoever>dive and pretend you are injured.

United look clueless.

Atletico always give English clubs trouble. Aggressively and tactically. No surprises here, even for Utd fans. Saying that I still hope Utd can find a way to go through to the next round.

Yet we won comfortably almost a year ago against them

They looked terrible last season. Got their tactics completely wrong.

So did we, but Simeneo still knows how to get under our skins apart from those occasions. Anyhoo, hope Ronaldo turns up and does what he does: knock out Atletico and their dreams. I think we're all agreed we'd rather get Utd in the next round than Atletico.

Atletico aren't really as bad as their results suggest. Been a bit unlucky, Oblak has been terrible and they lost confidence in a big way. Still really dangerous on a good day though. They were actually the better team against liverpool at home until the red card, that was a weird game they didn't deserve to lose really

2-2 Benfica now. Ajax have been carved open on the counters plenty of times in this match.

Tbf, they missed a boatload of chances themselves. Very open match

Ajax with the typical Dutch strategy of playing all out attack with 2-1 up in an away game and being punished for it. Morons.

Bruno has been very productive for United in terms of goals and assists.

But i see why some Man Utd fans still criticize him, he can't control the midfield to save his life, it's the same with Portugal.

Seems weird to say this but as productive as he has been with goal+assists, i don't see Man Utd challenging for anything with him on the midfield.
He would have been considered great in the 80s though, where games weren't as televized as today, so people mostly would knew his profilic stats, but not his gameplay.

He's been garbage today. Don't think I've ever seen him as bad or wasteful as he's been in this game. Ironic that he ends up getting the all important assist, but he's been shocking today.

Utd tie still too tight to call, wouldnt be surprised if they did go out.

Other 3 English clubs all will go through...

He has had many bad games with Man Utd, but he seems to score and assist very often.

He has better numbers than the likes of Zidane, Iniesta, Xavi, Pirlo, Modric,etc...but he can't control the midfield to save his life.

Big call by the ref not to send off Anthony. 2-2 in the end. Benfica have shown quiet a bit of fire today, but will it be enough in Amsterdam?

I would support James Corden over a Portugese club. And it's mostly just fecking stupid, which is why it pissed me off.
Just banter mate, don't take too seriously.

Ah no worries, I wasn't offended. I'm still not actually an Ajacied you know :wenger:

I just can't wrap my head around the fact that they're 2-1 up in a European away match and their centre back and left back are both in the opponent penalty area, the cb tries to dive for a pen and they conceded on the counter.

I mean, bless em for being entertaining, but it's the reason Dutch football teams don't win stuff.

Nah, this Ajax team just isn't as great as people think they are.
The 2019 version was better, and had better players individually.

And the reason dutch clubs aren't winning anymore is cause their best players are in foreign clubs.

All good my friend. I actually made a write up in the Erik ten Hag thread about his suicidal guns blazing attack attack approach in this match.

Agreed. That 2019 team was brimming with class from top to bottom bar in the CF department.

Today I was surprised to learn that Tadic was 33 and he was starting in the CL knockout games.

Well Yeah, it's obviously because of money, but Ajax would've made the final in 2019 if they didn't go all out kamikaze with 3 goals up at halftime and Ten Hag made the exact same mistake today.

He was beyond shocking today. 2022 Ronaldo ain’t it.

Hopefully he’ll have a better match at home.
I agree but United was awful. This team is awful for any striker they create no chances.

Hoping for vintage Ronaldo.

You had one job Ajax !!! I wanted 6-0

I am sorry to read a lot of Bruno criticism from Utd supporters, because he never was a super-top player in first instance (his early career told us all so pretty loud), yet he got that role because of Utd squad devoid of any flair and full of zombies (like the much more admired and pampered Pogbas etc.). Once again, Bruno to the rescue yesterday, getting a precious draw out of another bad performance by many of his fellows.

Who cares anymore.

This season will be suspended, most likely, thanks to Vlad the Mad.

Still a shit world. Depressing.

It was a decent assist but lets real here, he was hopeless for most of the game. The best bit of quality from United was actually from that 'pampered' guy Pogba.
