Champions League Round of 16 (15th Feb - 16th Mar)

Well PSG would have been moments of individual brilliance whereas Atletico will play like their lives depend on the outcome.
Won‘t be easy at all.

Glad it got it got redrawn from an integrity standpoint, but not sure I'm happier with Ateltico than PSG. PSG certainly stronger on paper but play terribly. I feel we'll struggle against Atletico's style. At least with how we play today, that could change by then of course..
Re-drawn? What happened?

Ok so, bad news is we face City. We probably are eliminated.

Good news is last time we faced City in a KO round we sent them home:devil::devil::devil:
Wow, I thought you were referring to some game forty years ago but no, it's 2012. And the striker with one of the best names of all time, Van Wolfswinkel scored, too.

Unless I'm visualizing probability incorrectly the answer is closer to a 1.56% chance of drawing the same team twice in a row. So pretty lucky
Keep in mind that Chelsea finished second while the other three Premier League teams won their group. Chelsea couldn't draw any of them so they had only four options (Lille, Real Madrid, Bayern München, Ajax). So in each draw, they had a 1/4 chance of getting Lille. Getting them twice in a row is therefore 1/16 which is roughly 6% (6.25%, to be precise).

edit: this is of course not a completely accurate calculation, because as the draw is happening, the probabilities change based on how the other ties happen. But the point is it isn't as unlikely as it feels, particularly as Chelsea, with their four options, were the most restricted team in the draw.

You are not including Chelsea's luck with drawd, which probably raises that to around 72,5% of drawing Lille.

Yeah my mistake then. Without applying the brain I just figured there were 8x8 possible outcomes :)

Could not have been forty years ago because because City only became relevant in 2012 ;)

Our team was also god awful when we did this.

Knock that twat Simeone out and think of Becks, not arsed at all about them as I fancy us to beat them quite comfortably.

Atletico's fans after realizing their team is going against a team featuring Ronaldo:

"Not again..."

Why do people still spell Atletico Madrid as Athletico?

United will win this tie though.

Because people do not speak Spanish and Atletico is not a word in the English dictionary. Why do you care?

Re-drawn? What happened?
Perhaps you've seen by now but the draw had to be redone as United were mistakely excluded from being able to draw Atletico in the draw when there was no reason we couldn't have played them. This called into question the integreity of the whole draw, and once a few clubs including Atletico asked UEFA what happened, it eventually got decided they would redo the whole draw. United got Atletico the second time, having originally drawn PSG.

Not every word has to be in English Dictionary to be spelled correctly. It's a well-known club. The wrong spelling just grinds my gears.

PSG has dangerous players, but as a team they are not working. You can't have 3 players in the team who is not defending. I feel it's 52-48 in favor of RM.

Wow if that grinds your gears I feel bad for you. Not everyone watches or even cares about La Liga, sorry to break it to you.

Do you call Bayern, Munich or München

It's a matter of respect to get names right.
Do you call Bayern, Munich or München
Both absolutely ok as one is the actual German name and the other the established English version. You could even call them Bavaria Munich, but calling them Baiern Munich would be a similar mistake to Athletico.

As a season ticket holder, I think Atletico, Milan and Inter are the only big teams I haven’t seen us play so this it’s good news that I can tick another off the list.

Whether, this 2nd draw is any easier than the first is debatable. We have avoided the mercurial talents of Messi, Neymar and Mbappe but will tested against Simeone’s dogged defensive unit. The Atletico organisation will be a tough code to crack and regardless of where we are in our development by then, it is surely going to be a difficult game for our attacking players.

Yep, they were absolutely dreadful Vs Chelsea last season.

If genuinely rather play them than Lille, who we will probably underestimate and lose to.

Tuchel will not underestimate Lille. It helps he understands their strengths and weaknesses.

Really grinds my gears when people use hyphens incorrectly.

Right, Munich is the English version. Like Atlética would be Athletic in English. It isn't that much of a stretch to see why people who speak English use it, it isn't some intentional disrespect.

I would understand Athletic, but not Athletico. That's just a lazy mistake because people don't care.

At the moment I could also rage about half the Caf calling United's new manager "Ralph". It's Ralf guys, Ralph is managing Southampton...

McGuire and Lingaard can be added to this list.

Just got home to realise the draw has been redone. We now have athletico. That's better than PSG I suppose.

I think it's also because of this other spanish club called Athletic Club, a lot of people mix their names or think they're both spelled the same.

Not the worst draw. Although they are a horrible team to play against.

I don't get why they bother exlcuding teams from playing each other in the knockout rounds. They are all through the group, just have an open draw, if you want to win it then you better be prepared to beat whoever you play.
