Champions League Round of 16 (13th Feb - 14th Mar)

Tottenham will have Alderwiereld and Rose which will strengthen their backline no end.

Plus they will be playing in Wembley, where Spurs have done very well this season contrary to what most people predicted, with 2 away goals.

As for Juve, half their team was injured and they should’ve been up 4-0 at one point but they screwed up after going up 2-0.
Half their team? You mean Dybala and Matuidi? Fair enough it weakened them, but they still put out a very strong squad. Spurs missed two key players too, though I don’t suppose that fits your tale. I love how you count Juves chances but not Spurs. 4-0? What a joke, Spurs were the better team, but for some naïveté.

All this rubbish about Spurs being "best of the rest" despite being in 5th, extremely reliant on one player, and having not won a league in god knows how many years...

They're an insignificant little club and it is in their DNA to lose.

Despite our bad form, our club at least has some cojones, I'd definitely back us to do a better job against the big boys in Europe than spurs

People who expect spurs to do great things should remember one thing - It's Spurs.

That surely must be a joke post. We cower against the big teams in our own league so i have no idea how you figure we have 'cojones', you think all of a sudden we'll play open fast expansive football against the elite in Europe? Deluded

Great comeback for Spurs. I thought the match was done after the first 10 mins. But they didn't panic and completely dominated Juventus at their own home. Great mentality shown by the players and the manager.

If we were 2-0 down against them, I don't think we would have managed a draw tbh.

;)

Only one person is to blame for that draw, and that's Beppe Moratta. The quality of players at juve seem to be dropping on a daily level, heck they still have Khedira starting for them. They have Mandzukic doing god knows what outwide. They have Costa somewhere trying to play a left midfield role as though he has a midfield game. It was a disaster waiting to happen. Benatia just isn't of this level. The only way Juve will go through is if Dybala puts on a hell of a performance in the second leg.

Juve’s injuries were FAR bigger than Tottrnham’s No question.

Juve absolutely could have been up 4-0 and had far more dangerous chances that should’ve been goals than the Spurs did.

Spurs did a great job in the second half but juventus parking the bus after going up 2-0 was stupid.

The amount of people who underrate Khedira is too high, there is a reason he's played consistently for two of the top clubs in Europe during this decade while also playing for the best national team as well. He might not look the prettiest on the ball but his in-game intelligence and tactical awareness/flexibility is brilliant.

Nonsense.

City aren’t invincible at all, and I’d still personally have Barca as favourites in a head to head tie across two legs, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable from some to think City would run out winners, or at least be favourites. Spurs are getting a lot of plaudits here after tonight and sit 20 points behind after 27 games. That’s quite a standard set for the season, nothing to do with the win against Basel tonight.
Why is there so much talk about City vs Barca here?

Fwiw, I think City would have a decent chance to beat Barcelona shoud the two teams meet. The latter despite their brilliant season so far is a team I'm still not totally convinced by relative to their previous side and feel have their share of weaknesses. Of course City have their own issues which can be exploited and they haven't a footballer anywhere near Messi. But it would be one that could go either way.

I didn't watch the games last night but that's an ominious result in the City game. I was hoping they'd have a slip up away from home which would damper spirits a tad. But four bloody nil away from home. F*ck off.

And fair play to Spurs on a great result. I watched the first 30 minutes and didn't expect such a turnaround. They should be coming confident of pulling off what would be a big upset early in the CL this year.

And yet he played like an inexperienced kid last night against inexperienced players.

Rubbish, the guy had 7 passes in 65 mins of high level football. It's a mystery how he's managed to play at the levels he has for this long, an absolute mystery. He specializes in nothing at all. What tactical awareness are you on about?

So you'l base one game over close to 8 years of experience for teams winning the WC (for which he played a key role in the quarter and semi-final, bar the final). I didn't see the match but I've followed Khedira for years now and, while I admit I did have reservations of him starting following the emergence of Gundogan/Kroos, he's an essential part of the midfield for whichever team he's played in and you cannot discount the fact that so many top managers continue to play him.

Just read what is written and don't extrapolate please. Just said he was rubbish last night, vast experience means feck all if you're to perform like that. I've said nothing about his career in general.

Cavani (31) and Di Maria's (30) birthdays today - same day they play Real Madrid and last year they played Barcelona on their birthday and won 4:0 losing 6:1 in the second leg.

Eriksen (26) is another who celebrates his birthday today. Great performance last night. This week last year he was part of a Spurs side that lost 1:0 to Gent in the Europa League - although he only played the last 10 minutes off the bench.

@RooneyLegend mentioned that the quality of Juve's side is dropping, explicitly stating that Khedira still starts for them. I then commented on how underrated he is and got a response specifically mentioning yesterday's match, which I can assume is being used as an example of how poor Khedira is in his opinion. I apologize if I took your post out of context and included it in my general response.

Juve will have Dybala and Mautidi back in the starting line-up for the return leg. It will be an open contest.

Yes, but Spurs have Aurier suspended for the 2nd leg, so that should improve them no end.

It would be funny if all 5 teams from PL gets to final stages of CL, wonder would anyone mention then winter break and how its big evul not having it.

It would be great if all five PL clubs reach the semi finals. hehehe

No worries. It is all cool.

It was a poor shot that should never haven been a goal. Buffon completely messed up by not saving a shot that he should have held easily. Buffon's footwork in the first goal was also awkward. It's good for Juve that this is his last season because he's not good enough anymore.
He should have taken it yes. I can agree on that, but the fact is that Buffon is a veteran and usually his decisions are right. If you watch the goal you can see buffon taking a step to the left at the moment Eriksen takes the shot. Then he sees that the ball is going to his corner and tries to switch back his stance. He should have taken it, but it was a tricky shot and credit where its due!

Nonsense.

There are people that will never give the Premier credit even when the league is getting back on a high(not saying the league is there yet), they are blinded. I guess if Spurs does not deserve respect for beating Juve away then the other top Europe teams should not get much credit for success over the past few year because the prem has been so poor.

It's very hard to argue with them, once the English teams are back in the upper echelon they will blame it on money...when the other top teams in Europe have great advantages.

So Porto is the most supported team in the world tonight?

RM vs PSG 2-2 would be good. Just hope that both teams really go for it instead of being too afraid of losing.

He's one of the great overachievers of the modern game, have no idea what managers see in him. Honestly, by rolling out his honours list you'd actually think he's one of the great midfielders but he's far from it. Again, i'd like to know what he's good at? he's far from a premier ball winner, not much of a passer, certainly isn't much of an attacking threat, can't handle the ball in tight spaces, he isn't one you'd class as someone who's an expert at protecting the defence...while i did cite yesterday's much as an example, the man has been mediocre for eons now. The Madrid midfield went up a level when Modric then Kroos replaced him.

People need to stop going overboard because Spurs drew to an ageing, injury depleted team with a pensioner in goal - theres a reason why the other teams in Italy have closed the gap on Juventus

Spurs won't win the PL/CL for the next 10 years plus. Yes they'll have the odd cup run, but its in their DNA to Spurs things up.

Our club has a history of defying odds:

I'd say that coming back from the Munich disaster proves that we have cojones.
I'd say that coming back from a 18-7 league title count in favour of Liverpool to make it 20-18 in favour of us is a show of cojones
I'd say that bouncing back from the heartbreak of the Agueroooo QPR moment, losing the league in devastating fashion, to winning the league by 11 points is a show of cojones

Don't let a few lean years (where we've still won 3 trophies to Spurs' 0) blind you to the Spurs media love-in.

Never, ever underestimate Manchester United. If this doesn't convince you, then I suggest reading up on what this club has dealt with adversity and how the spirit of the club is ingrained in the fabric of Manchester United for forever and a day.

What does the past have to do with current teams?

yes.

Is Porto that good, do they have good attack, or you are counting on crap Liverpool defence? How is Porto's defence?

We have a very spirited team but technically not on par of some of our teams in recent past much less than current top5 in Europe but I'm hoping Liverpool shits their pants and we take advantage of that.

yes.

Very good but they haven't faced an attack close in quality to Liverpool's and they're missing Felipe and Danilo. I have no idea how to predict tonight's games, no result would surprise me.
