Champions League Round of 16 (13th Feb - 14th Mar)

We got lucky with the Juve pen, but that aside we've played fairly well and have been a lot more threatening than Juve ... so I can't say our goal wasn't deserved.

It was nervy as hell for most of that half ... and I doubt the nerves are done shredding by a long chalk yet.

But Juve now have to score twice with no reply if they want to go further in this competition.
Thanks for letting us know Glastonbury, no one realised that.

Edit: damn predictive text. Are you from Glastonbury btw? Lovely town.

That's really an awful decision re the penalty, seeing the replays it's awful.

Juve are not as bad as they're looking.
This is what being aggressive and pressing does to teams.
Dominated Juve physically.

Juventus is so slow. Khedira and Barzagli in particular cannot deal with Tottenham's intensity at all.

Thing is though they have only conceded 3 goals in 20 games, all of the against Spurs! They look like a bunch of geriatrics out there. God only knows what's going on in the Italian league at the moment.
The Italian league is an embarrassment if this is the best they have to offer. Getting bossed by the 4th best team in England. For all the criticism the French league gets this is just as bad IMO. Buffon is finished and their defense is so slow. If I'm dybala I'd be looking to leave. How did they reach the final last year?

Juve are really bad. Their midfield is a shambles and their defense is too old. Cant cope with the movement and pressing from Spurs. Time for them to refresh the team and get a new/modern manager

I feel like Spurs play better football than us right now, they look so oriented and much more better on the ball than us.

Serie A is a pub league these days when Juve are the best they can offer to be fair.

I loved Serie A as a youngster, wish the league would get back to its best :(

Whether it's 2nd 3rd or 4th doesn't matter when it's not first.
This only applies if a team has given up on league, which is not the case which means united has been the better team of the two till now, deal with it.

Anyone mentioned how he wished United was as good as Spurs?
Someone mentioned played like them. Can't see how anyone can dispute that.
Nobody has said they wish we were as good.

Can they do that in the modern transfer market though? Their midfield looks slow and weak too.

That honestly wouldn't be hard. As a neutral I can't say I ever get excited watching United.

Monday night's 2nd half was a cracker, to be fair, but Mourinho's hand was forced being 2-0 down and all.

What are you talking about ? Are you implying United has not given up on the title?

Of course they do, everybody will tell you that. But better football doesn't mean better results. Anyway, not the thread for this discussion.

Funny how when spurs play the biggest teams in Europe they all play terribly .

I'm not saying you haven't been impressive. You have. Especially in Torino after going down. But if I had a choice of which team I'd rather face if we progress into the quarters it would be very easy. Part of it is your pressing and aggression, but you can't deny they've been pretty awful tonight too. I'd fancy any of the top 6 against them if this is what they've got.

They were given 2 offside goals in the 2nd leg. It's near impossible to beat a team as good as Madrid when they are gifted two goals.

Ronaldo's first was nowhere near to being offside, his second may have been marginally offside but it was very tight. In that same game Bayern were awarded a penalty that wasn't (though they missed). Overall the decisions were fairly balanced, Real were the better. Chelsea-Barca in 2009 is a better example imo of really poor referring.

I'm a big fan of Spurs (just not Glaston ). You deserve all the plaudits you're getting. If you hold on you'll have beaten Madrid, Juve and Dortmund this campaign, which is no mean feat.

I concur I’m not saying we’re as big or better, but on the day we beat them and if we win tonight beat them all well.

Ahhhh I see a mature debate lol, I never said that. You beat the team in front of you, doesn’t matter how badly that team is perceived to have played.
You implied sarcastically that when you play the best teams in europe they all play terribly, which means by default you are always the better team when you play these best teams in europe. You didn't need to say it, you implied it tbh.

Yes! The Beast from the East strikes again.

Delighted for Spurs. They deserve it. Didn't become good with oil money either

Spurs play good football, wish United played like them

Get in Son

Spurs are great to watch.

Spurs really went up a level, fantastic football on show from them.

I reckon we have one player that would start in one of the front three for Spurs- or four if we extended it to that.

We only signed him a few weeks ago.

Can’t fathom how Mourinho is happy with our attacking options.

I really like the way Spurs play. Great tempo and energy, like old style Utd and I appreciate how much of a team they are, don't need superstars in every position when you are this cohesive.

Spurs really are fun to watch. The contrast between this (and last night) and Monday are sooo depressing.

The energy !!

This.

I realise I much prefer watching them than us despite my biases.

That’s shocking.

All credit to Spurs. They have been magnificent

What I would give for Poch to be our next manager after Mourinho!

Why don’t Redcafe have a thread only for die hard Spurs supporters? Btw. Happy for Glaston. So many new friends.

Juve just can not deal with the pace and tempo that Spurs play with, also how brave they are in their running and positioning. Poch has done a great job, they are so much more than the sum of their parts.

That's been a problem for many years with Italian teams in CL (apart from last year when Juve had the amazing defence). Play the game at their pace and tempo and they can control it. Play it at premier league pace and likes of Juve and Roma can't handle it.

Honest.y don’t think I did, I was meaning that when we beat these teams, it’s more because they were poor than we were good.

Shocking decision my the ref and the officials not giving that pen. Blatant as you like.

But spurs have been the better team. Not really sure what Juve are trying to do really. They're open but not particularly that attacking; can't remember them creating that many chances. Spurs closing down extremely well and pressing Juve's back line. Dybala has been shite. They need a change of system here.

The problem isn't those two. The problem is the defence is past it and their midfield has zero creativity.

Part of Dybala's skillset is dropping deep, picking up the ball and beating a few men to get a shot in. He did that on Saturday. Higuain, yeah he needs chances created for him.

Costa and Pjanic are on the pitch so they should be capable of getting the ball through.

I think that’s harsh, why cannot a appreciation for good football be made rather than a siege mentality of everyone else is shit?

Mate no offence but if my team were in a huge match v Juventus in the CL knockouts, the last thing I would be doing is spending my time on a Spurs forum arguing with the locals.

Go and enjoy your team playing ffs, they're playing well.

It's depressing.
