Champions League Knockouts (12 Aug - 23rd Aug)

If Bayern reach the final, will that be the two best teams in Europe facing off? Answers on a postcard

I expected to see some ‘patterns of play’ or whatever else it is the hipsters go on about.
Feck me mate, look at PSGs bench! They'd all get into Leipzig's team. PSG have had loads of cracks at this while spending obscene amount to achieve it. Plus they can experiment with their system and selection knowing full well they can beat anyone in Ligue 1

Let's be real here, most of their players wouldn't make PSG's bench, and they lost their best player of the season. Only so much coaching can do.
And they forgot this is CL semi final. This team well beat Atletico who beat CL then champion, and now PL champions, to get here.

It's mighty to talk crap on the day a team getting defeated, and simply dismissed the season as a whole. Some experts...

what a shit match was that. Leipzig should have played better. They looked absolutely toothless.

They are really well coached to get where they are. How many of those players would get into Utd? Werner would have certainly but a 33 old coach getting the best out of the 2 teams he's coached is remarkable. If he progresses the way he's doing , then why not have him as a candidate for the Utd job?
Marco Rose has more experience and I'd have him as number 1
I think he can be a candidate after 1 or 2 more jobs. But some are demanding we sack Ole tonight and give the guy the job tomorrow.

Maybe a Southampton or West Ham type team can hire him next and let’s see what he has.

Hate it when a semi final just turns out shit like this. Gap in quality simply too big.

At least Bayern vs Barca was extremely amusing even though the tension was mostly gone because Barca couldn't do shit.

Naturally. People seem to watch one match and decided players/managers are great or shite and then stick with that. Leipzig have been well beaten tonight but that doesn’t suddenly make them a crap, badly coached team.

You can see it with players too, where they had a few good games or even a good season and years down the line you still have people saying they’re great players and United would be mad not to sign them.

Some people have preconceived ideas that they want to be validated as well. The "hipsters" want to be validated for supporting the underdogs, while the "anti-hipsters" wants to be proven right for doubting the underdogs. Football fans are not the people who are the best at looking at the bigger and more nuanced picture.

They've got there on merit, and that's all you can say.

A few weeks back some on here were saying City were far and away the best team in Europe. It's a claim they may make but in terms of this competition, they aren't.

They were not even able to string 2 passes. Neymar and Mbappe were playing in second gear for majority of the game. It was a poor performance by Leipzig.

The only team I want to win this competition is Lyon. Don’t want Bayern equalling our 6 and don’t want the oil mercenaries either.

Anyone who can look at their defence and say that with a straight face are having a laugh

Caf logic mate!

@Adnan these are the types of mistakes you were talking about?
He has concentration issues and let's attackers run free on his blindside. He's also made mistakes where he's pressed too aggressively and got caught too high up the pitch and left a gaping hole in defence which the opposition have exploited. It was a good decision from him to renew and stay another season at RBL. His younger defensive partner who is injured currently is the rock in that RBL defense and who I would call The General.

Drago Silva with yet another faultless performance. Amazing defender, we should bring him in for his final years.

Same will happen tomorrow too. These semi finals are basically a formality.

It's best for him if he stays at Leipzig for a season or two before he makes the big jump.

Clueless

Our Belgian pundits were going on about whether City made a chance against this Bayern side after Barca-Bayern, even before they played Lyon. It was disgusting and all the more glorious when they got dumped out a day later.

They've never been amongst the elite teams in the CL.

Well yes, I thought and said that at the time. A side that got turned over by us 3 times,Wolves,Soton etc ..but some still claimed they were best set up to win the UCL.

They can't. PSG can't beat anyone in Ligue 1 while experimenting, they can't even do it while playing seriously. The difference with other leagues is that the second and third will lose against other teams more often not that PSG will beat everyone.

PSG vs Bayern is going to be a corker. If anyone can handle the physicality that the Bayern forwards bring to the table it's Thiago and Kimpemba. The speed of PSG's attackers will have the Bayern backline in trouble. Then again Bayern simply overwhelm teams with numbers going forward.

Bit like our PL this season then?

Surely we have to want Bayern to win the final (if they beat Lyon obviously!) over the evil oil boys?

It'd be the most foolish bringing in of an ageing vet defender since we brought Lauren Blanc in.

He's abit better than Soton and blooming West Ham.

I have been disappointed by Leipzig, against PSG it's fairly simple you press their midfield, stay compact and counter. Their midfielders are the best technicians outside of Verratti and can lose their heads on a few occasions. You do the same with Kimpembe and Kehrer who are generally good and composed on the ball until you decide to really harass them, then they can do something really stupid.

Well that was... easier than i thought. Ander had such a selfless game, i'm very happy for him, he's the nicest guy.
