Champions League Gameweek 4

Rakitic has been better than Gundogan in recent seasons and is certainly not overrated. Turan had a long time out of football is true.

Well I don't think Gundogan is that good anymore(certainly nowhere near what he was in 2012-2013, so that's not saying much imo.

Rakitic benefits a lot from when Barcelona are playing well, his weaknesses get masked imo. Whenever they struggle and they need their midfield to supply the front 3 more with passes(like today), he gets found out. When there's an onus on him to create, he doesn't do enough.

Rakitic is overrated. His level has somehow consensually improved in people's mind since his move to Barca but his actual level in reality is nowhere near where people try to put him.

The first acceptance should be to agree that he isn't world class to start with. A top player(on his day) maybe who can do a job but nothing more.

All true. But they aren't hammering teams in the league routinely and as you said it can go all tits up. Maybe not tits up but they could have a crisis you know.
He made a great job that's true but it's just strange to see so much salivating over him on an United forum, that's all.
I have no problem giving credit where its due. Both him and Klopp have done great work at our 2 most hated clubs, so it sucks, but you cant just ignore it or put it in any other way other then they are looking very good all around. And in the league, performance wise, they are incredibly dominant in them. They wont win every game of course, but I donwish we saw United scoring goals with the ease them and Liverpool are doing this year.

One day, you will understand Football mate!
Verrati is overrated. His level seem to improve by process of elimination. When ever some other midfielder have poor games that's when he gets mentioned but never from the start.

This guy name get thrown around by some as if he's in that top tier echelon midfielders

Who is the top tier midfielders in your opinion.

Would Rakitić be overrated if Barca won tonight?
People generally exaggerate how good or bad players are based on who is doing well. Most players playing for the top clubs are at a very high level and their performances are more of a reflection to the system, formation, teammates, motivation, league, etc. It is however easier for the average fan to attribute every success or failure purely to the quality of the individual player as though it is some definite variable.

Lets put it this way, sometimes I want to ignore it and it sucks this isn't the place to do it anymore. :D

What is your top 10 of the best central or defensive midfielders?

Wouldn't say it any better. :)

Did any if the German posters just see robben destroy the ridiculous 100% mejier analysis on sky? Hilarious:lol:

Arsenal were playing in blue and yellow tonight. Aren't those the colours of a particularly vile toad in the Amazon jungle ?

Barça were outclassed and Suarez was getting ratty. "El clásico" coming up at the start of December so if Barça go through a rough spell, Real Madrid's unbitten run may come to an end.

I don't know about others but I've been on Rakitic over inflated rating by people around here forever. I remember during the transfer window in the Pogba thread I had these debates about Rakitic.

From the get go when I started watching Rakitic when heh had just moved to Barca I almost started banging my head due to how sloppy he could get sometimes ur his awful decisions making.

AT that point I chuckled it down to him being new but even as he integrated himself in that Barca team and started looking better and better, nothing about him screamed world class ur anything of sort.

He's a decent option for Barca and doing a job for them in a system suiting both him and the team but he isn't amazing as a player himself.

Rakitic has a good engine and passing range, but always seems to get lost when he's isolated in the middle, and struggles against a pressing system--he is no Xavi, but he's a decent player.

When I see the mistake of the RB of Barcelona, I understand why Barcelona is trying to sign Aurier :smirk:

To score a goal like that in the last few minutes really shows just how good Ozil is. People would be going mad if Messi had scored it.

Truly world class goal in a crunch moment (with PSG also pulling ahead at the same time).

It looks like he's gained a lot of confidence in front of goal now and isn't afraid to pull the trigger. Sanchez to CF has brought out a new dimension in his game this season.

Who has thought that Rakitic is world class?

He's a very good player, that's as far as it goes.

I haven't watched all of Arsenal's games this season but from what I've seen, Sanchez playing up front has allowed more fluidity than what you had with Giroud playing? Brilliant move from Wenger based on what we've seen so far.

Don't watch too many Arsenal games (Germany though), but it sounds like Özil is about to enter his absolute prime now. He was top drawer for years, but there are some sides to his game where he lacked a bit previously that seem to come now.

It definitely has, our attacking moves are less predicable now with Sanchez dropping deep and causing chaos. Walcott and Ozil have been able to make runs and exploit the space that Sanchez can create.

I think also Mustafi has played a big part in this. Now we have a second CB that can play a higher line and further to that he's not afraid to bring it out of defense and play a through ball - meaning Ozil doesn't need to drop deep to help bring the ball out.
