Champions League Gameweek 4

Don't watch too many Arsenal games (Germany though), but it sounds like Özil is about to enter his absolute prime now. He was top drawer for years, but there are some sides to his game where he lacked a bit previously that seem to come now.

He didn't have a killer instinct in front of goal when we signed him. I think in his really early years at Schalke and Werder he scored some absolute crackers though, but at Real he became an assist machine and the rest of his game seemed to be neglected, hopefully this has changed now.

That's the most spectacular improvement for sure, I hope he can keep it going. In addition I feel his overall presence and awareness has improved and he contributes more to compactness, pressing and build up now. (Again, mainly talking about the DFB team.) He just turned 28, is a veteran at the highest level of football, and it seems he's up for a joint midfield leader role together with Kroos/Gündogan/Khedira.

Ye I always wondered if the Madrid spell changed his attitude towards taking shots himself, he seemed 100% focused on creating/assisting only. Like you said he scored some absolute crackers for Schalke, Bremen and Germany so the ability was always there, would be great if he got that back.

Expecting a tough game today versus Sporting. They got a good squad and are dangerous. While we are struggling the last games and have to pick up.

Overreacting to group stage performances, where the only point is to get a pass for the knockout stages? Meh.

Meunier's goal was a thing of beauty! Perfect technique in the strike. Can't say I've seen much of him but has he always had that level of technique or is this a one-off kind of thing?

There were a number of nice finishes last night - both of Griezmann's goals, Ozil's wizard-like goal, etc.

Meunier is a striker successfully converted into RB, he won't score such screamers every week but his striking technique is definitely very good for a FB.

Yeah I think it changed him a lot - for the betterment of their team in the end given they had CR7 and Benzema scoring goals, but he became an assist machine at the expense of his own scoring ability.

Very interesting formation, four forwards up front lol

That Spurs team is pretty awful, missing Kane, Lamela, and Alderweireld. It says a lot about Pochettino's confidence (or lack thereof) in Janssen that he won't start him in a match like this at home.

The Spurs team is quite good, nothing awful about it. If they play anything like against City, Leverkusen can go home now.

And if Spurs play anything like against Bournemouth, then Leverkusen will walk away happy..

If they play well, they'll probably win. If they play poorly, they'll probably lose or draw. Not much new there.

I'm very sad to not be in Dortmund right now. It's going to be a great party. Weird starting XI for this one:

Rui Patrício, Zeegelaar (absolute shit), Coates, Semedo, Paulo Oliveira, William, Bruno César, Schelotto, Bryan Ruiz, Gelson, Castaignos

I don't even know what formation that is. We have 1 left back, 3 centre backs and 1 right back but we won't play with 3 at the back. It's probably Oliveira at right back, which is a terrible idea, and Schelotto in the right of the midfield.

Hmm, interesting.

I still don't understand why Real Madrid rotates so little against teams like Warsaw. They are probably the worst team in the competition and they are playing with Ronaldo Benzema and Bale upfront? Are they seriously such stat whores?

Dortmund without Aubameyang today because of "internal reasons". A bit weird as his kit actually hung in the locker room already but now he's "not in the squad".

Maybe Semedo in midfield?

I was wondering why there were no Reddit streams for Spurs/Bayer. Then I realized I was an hour early...damn daylight savings time.

Rooting for Spurs there. Actually think Dembele and Wanyama are decent footballers, wouldn't call them athletes, although Wanyama does look sloppy sometimes.

I specifically said that game because it was more or less the same lineup minus Toby. Also saying that Spurs team isnt weak if they destroyed City.

Sporting lucky, should've been a penalty.

Refs again  stonewall pen not given to pullisic for BVB

Our fans in great voice.

Seems like we're playing with 5 defenders. Wtf. We've never done that before. It's interesting at least. Gelson vs Raphael Guerreiro is a dream match up for every portuguese.

We are playing in Germany, the opposing team just asked for a penalty and they weren't given one. That's a first.

And... there it is. One minute later and you get your compensation. How the feck was that not called? Clearest penalty you'll see on Castaignos not called.

One foul. Not past the half way line. Yellow card.

And they score... ffs

You do unserstand the concept of a tactical foul, right? That is a text book example of one and should always be a booking, no matter how many fouls happened beforehand.

Very strong first and second touch by Pulisic. Very good combination for the 1:0.

Götze to Ramos, goal.

Great to see Guerreiro back again. Like that player very much.

I have no problem with it if the ref keeps doing the same for both teams.
