Champions League 24/25 | Matchday 6: December 10-11

PSv being so underwhelming in Europe and so dominant domestically is a bad look for our league.

Reeeeaaally got away with it there....uuufffff

Real are so shit in midfield.

Well, their first choice DM has to play CB because their 2 first choice CB's have ACL injuries. Their other starting midfielder is also injured. Their best midfielder is now playing further forward because Rodrgyo is injured Vini just came back from injury, and their normal wide attacking RM has to play CDM because of the mentioned injury reasons.

So yeah, its a bit of a mess there. Ceballos is also just a bit shite.

Completely off topic but why is there a thread on the United forum asking about relegation?

Watching Olise is pretty depressing considering we got Antony for twice as much and he'd have probably joined us given the chance.

Great win for Leverkusen, deserved it. Incredible that Leipzig have lost every UCL match this season.

I've watched them with different variations of Tchouaméni/Modric/Camavinga/Valverde & Bellingham in midfield, always seem to me to be wide open and vulnerable to pace with players just running through them. They also struggle to control the tempo of the game without Kroos & Modric holding it together.

Still wouldn't put it past them winning the thing though.

Bellingham was excellent again tonight. He's firing on all cylinders currently with 6 goals in 6 games, with a few assists as well, and a great activity with and without the ball.

Is Valverde actually. Tchouameni is crap in midfield
I watch quite a lot of Madrid games, I’ve never seen valverde play centrally this season or last.

Obviously he’s had to cover for both Vasquez and carvajal being out at RB this season but when he’s played in midfield he’s played more as a classical defensive minded RW/RM both this season and last.

I just don’t see him as a DM. He’s all hustle and bustle, up and down but he doesn’t have the control or positional discipline to play that role.

Yeah last 4 games I've seen him looks at his last season best. Always willing to take risks such a class player

Ancelotti’s substitutions and management of playing time certainly not doing any favours to the injury situation at Madrid.

I remember thinking a while back that on paper a diamond with Tchouameni holding, Valverde on the right side and Camavinga on the left side of the diamond as shuttlers, Bellingham on the top of the diamond as the most advanced player seemed very balanced.

I'm guessing that never ended up working out?

? How is that not a foul?
It was about a two seconds after the ball was played, at about 2mph, and it was clear to almost anybody watching that the defender put the brakes on about 5 seconds before that and it was more a coming together than a tackle at that point. The attacker who went down is a joke.

Anybody with eyes could tell Jude is a quality player. That’s back to back MOTM performances after a slower start to the season.

He’s getting back to last season’s best with goals, assists and great off the ball work.

Agree to disagree. You can’t just slide into people two seconds after they passed/shot. That would always be a foul if it was a defender in his own have.

Nope. Most of last season he was a pretty straightforward DM. His mobility and pace meant he's pop all around the pitch, but for the most part, his duties were mostly defensive in nature. This season he'd been playing more attacking but Tchouameni's continues suckiness plus injuries are forcing him back to DM. Ideally at this point we'd use a double pivot of Camavinga-Valverde. Either way, he's by far our best defensive midfielder

Mbappe was looking as sharp as he had all season and he gets injured. Rotten luck for him.

Hopefully nothing serious/lengthy and he's back soon.

Defense wasn't that good for Atalanta in this match but they did had better ball possession

If we beat Sparta Prague tonight we're probably through to the playoff round. Would be quite a feat for us.

We've been moronically mercurial this season though, so who knows what'll happen.

Ball was already played, the contact happened after the fact. I agree with the verdict, but i'll take the pen in compensation for that ridiculous Tel-Goalkeeper decision
But it makes no difference if the ball has already been played. Imagine a defender plays a ball into midfield and is taken out by an attacker after he has played the pass. That's always a foul. Otherwise, I would wait until someone has shot or passed and then knock him down.

I see this as a very obvious attempt to make up for the shit decision to scrap Musiala's goal.

@Acrobat7 is correct. It's a shit rule and it should be an indirect fk, but them's the rules

First of all: I am always correct. And humble.

An indirect free kick might be a good solution, but then you open the door to the question at what threshold you give a direct or indirect one.
It is a very clear and obvious foul in any area of the pitch, so it is obviously a foul in the penalty box as well.
