Champions League 24/25 | Matchday 5: November 26-27

Don't see a team better than Liverpool in Europe at the moment, I hope a treble isn't on the cards for them.

What did he say?
He said Liverpool controlled the game, that RM forced too many counter attacks and didn't keep the ball, the missed pen wasn't the reason they lost. He was just generally humble and said Liverpool was always going to be tough, and currently this year the better team, but that doesn't excuse their performance.

I dunno why Madrid let go Nico Paz, the kid looks promising and even if still very inmature, with some Redondo in him.

Real needs someone in the same wavelength as Luka, too many runners and box to box players that are really great, but struggle to keep the ball in a more intelligent way when needed.

He was not going to play. He scored a goal last year in the Champions League and disappeared.
This year he would have to compete with Arda, who has more status and is barely playing.
There are many elegant left foot players who provide quality, the "James" profile, but whether he is profitable in terms of his contribution to the game is another matter.

Besides Ancelotti hardly uses academy players. Arribas, Miguel Gutiérrez, Rafa Marín...all very good, the best of the club in each generation but they are not coming back. They are used for turnover.

Besides, Nico has been sold, he is not even on loan.

Although, yes, I totally agree on the need for talented players in midfield, but more proven players.

Madrid can try to convert Arda Guler to a controller type CM.
When Odegaard broke through prominence, he had almost exactly same profile as the current Arda Guler.
It's my opinion, but I do think Arda has slightly better talent than Odegaard.
It's not something impossible to do.

Nico Paz is currently one of the best midfielders in serie A, and we do have a recompra, so

Is the knockout play offs going to be a seeded draw? If not then there will be some big sides going out early at this rate

I certainly don’t see him in an attacking role. Too much of a lightweight. Agree with the CM shout. Not sure if he’ll be good enough but indeed the thing to focus and develop.

I perfectly know that is very rare for Madrid to use their youngsters in a high profile role in the mid, not just with Carletto, historically.
And I also know that having so many high profile and already succesfull young lads in the mid makes the scenario even worse for an academy player wanting to play in the mid for current Madrid.

Yet after the retirement of Kroos and Modric loosing his place. The player in Madrid that could fit better that type of role in my view was Nico.

I do also think that from what I've seen from him, he plays more like some sort creative player, kind of a 10, without so far (even being young) not that much end product regarding numbers, even if he tries. So for instance he maybe could have been converted in some sort of Redondo alike player, while also taking advantage of his tendency of going forward as plus. I would have to the very least kept him and if a place was open or if the coach wanted to bet, use him as some sort of metronome to help Luka and cover the absence of Toni.
He has the size, the skills, the personality. He doesn't have the maturity and had showed an urge to go forward that would had to be tamed quite a bit, while also understanding that even if he doesn't have in him the atributes to be a dinamic (with pace), prolific sort of 10, those offensive tendencies and urge for a final ball or scoring, can become handy if are used without forgetting the main metronome/organizative anchor and tempo management role Madrid nowadays needs. He could have been that bet.

Your posts are always good , amigo. The metronome thing sounds very tasty. Redondo is my big love and I thought Camavinga could be him. I don't know if Nico could catch him defensively.

"every right to go for the ball" - Actually, no, there is no right to go for the ball in that scenario.

I'm sure they read off a script.

Its one of the few rules that is actually applied consistently...usually.
Wasn't even going for the ball, only the keepers rib cage..

Thanks man, dunno about that, but thanks anyway.

Camavinga is great being or not being Redondo. Yet Fernando was a very cerebral, confident and compose player, with a huge personality and quite a big quote of malice bordering mean under that silky Prince mask.
I don't see Nico till now that cerebral, yet he has many of the physical traits, style and confidence on the ball that requieres doing a "Redondo", or at least it could have been a nice bet to try and see what the kid could dot. More than probably fail, like when Cambiasso didn't entirely could instantly fill Fernando's boots, yet ended being quite a great player outside Madrid. Anyway, it was noticeable since time that Madrid even with all the mids avaiable didn't have a Kroos/ Modric type among them.

Yeah.

It bugs me whenever this happens and people go on about what a ridiculous decision it was. Its very clear in the rules. Its also very clear the Villa player jumps into he keeper.

Its not "soft" either as there's not really a grey area you can put it into. If the ref doesn't give it the VAR would have to overule him.

I think our PL officials blur the lines for people on these things due to how incompetent they are.
