Champions League 24/25 | Matchday 5: November 26-27

2:0 Gakpo.. Good cross and header but terrible defending from Madrid.
Next match against Atalanta.
Doubt they will get a top 8 finish

We might want to pay attention to Madrid’s summer reconstruction job and subsequent fire sale

Liverpool are so fecking efficient right now. Only hope is someone unsettles Salah or their other players with contracts ending and try to buy them in Jan.

Real Madrid are a good example of what happens when you focus too much on athletic players and sacrifice too much technique/ball playing ability.

He didn’t have anything to do with Mbappe missing his kick. They got lucky. Again.

Pool have been clear of RM from the first whistle. In no way have they been lucky. Simply the better team tonight.

I do think a part of it is the way the set up under Ancelotti. It has been largely effective but even when they were winning did look a bit laboured. They are a defence first type of team in my opinion and they haven't been good to watch for some time.

Haven't half the team done their ACLs?

Put on Villa for the second half and all of Juve's players seem to be injured as well. They must have extremely intense leagues on the continent or something.

Liverpool game at least has a bit of excitement and energy to it, which has been completely vacant from every other group game I've watched.

There's no jeopardy to any of these games. All of the teams who matter aren't going out this round no matter how badly they cock up, because they've been given a big safety net by the new format.

The old group stage wasn't great but if you lost a couple of games you were in trouble, which at least made it interesting when a big team had a bad game or two...just unfortunate it was invariably us.

Last year Real and City would now be in trouble. This year worst case they just drop into a play off round and buy some time to get their act together.

I'm not sure they have the players to do it differently. They have collected athletics midfielders, the have sacrificed technical and passing ability.

The annoying thing about them right now too is how easy it's been to replace some players. Allison is out and they have Kelleher. Trent is out and they have Bradley. FFS.

Mbappe just awful this evening - and has been since putting on the white shirt.

Surely Madrid will be in for Haaland soon enough.

Watching Liverpool makes me ill!

Haaland would clash quite a bit with current players. They won't go for him, they need midfielders.

Aye, even at our very best, we never fully dominated or comprehensively beat RM.

We played Real thrice in Fergie's reign at United (he beat them with Aberdeen in 83).

2000, 2003 and the Nani game in 2013.

Liverpool meet Madrid every season these days and have lost more than they've won. We played and beat plenty of Europe's best in our day. Hopefully, it won't be long until we are back on it, even if we have to remortgage the house to attend.

Bayern gonna be in the first 8 at the end, playing Shakhtar, Feyenoord and Slovan Bratislava. Even if not 9 points, gonna get 6-7.

Aston Villa scored against Juve. 1-0
Edit; disallowed

Liverpool probably the best team in the world right now. Edges a little bit Barcelona.

Gonna have the usual moaning from the commentators about the Villa goal being disallowed even though its clear in the rules you can't challenge a keeper while they're in the air.

Keepers are far too protected.
