Chain Draft (Main Thread)

A lot of teams are going to cross each other in 1980's Serie A here. I can't wait for the carnage it causes.

You've watched too much tiki-taka possession stuff, neither the Dream Team nor the Orange Clockwork were about winning by keeping the ball and scoring while you slept. It was direct, vertical, aggressive and, of course, bound to lead to loss of possession every now and then.

Yeah, right... My entire reason to join this was building a team around Schiaffino and merging the best of the Peñarol 1949 side and 60s sides. Of all the drafts, with all the rules there have ever been, this was the one where it was possible.

I love the idea of it but I feel like I'm climbing up a mountain wearing roller skates and every time I get halfway up, some fecker appears above and throws a piano at me.
 
There are plenty of picks available for Rivaldo and he is one of the best modern day picks tbf, so I'm sure you won't be short of options @Stobzilla . Only problem might be working your way backwards to deal with the decade rule but there are a couple of glorious picks who would leave you plenty of options going backwards, and that's after hogging up some of the finest that the 90s-2000s have to offer.

He just lost interest, and I don't blame him. I told Edgar earlier today he should look for backup managers, it was bound to happen. These things take far too much time to bother if you've lost interest.

It's a fact that getting certain players requires getting stuck. It's not a matter of "playing your way out" with underwhelming picks, sometimes you will legitimately get stuck because there's no C who hasn't played with A.

What is important is that it isn't a pisstake, i.e.:

1) "Getting stuck" is clearly defined and has mitigating factors for anyone making it up: DONE

2) That the manager can't use it to teleport himself to a different decade/continent, i.e. ideally a player will be a natural continuation of the chain in place and be picked from the current team or the one right before (so long as they meet the Carrick/Hargreaves/Brown standard of "goodness", whatever that is... winning a CL and multiple league titles, it seems).

3) The manager makes a case for 1 or more players that a) do not teleport him, b) are of a similar underwhelming all-time standard as the aforementioned poor United servants, c) alllow him to continue the chain, d) player HAS to play in the first game.

4) A neutral (or committee) can still veto it so the guy clearly can't be taking the piss.

@Edgar Allan Pillow still hasn't confirmed 2-4 though.

Totally agree, albeit in a drunken way.

There's a fair few players that would be worth getting intentionally stuck in a dead end for if the legacy choice isn't harsh enough.

Well, we were bound to have a casualty or 2 from this draft. I'm quite saddened to see @Stobzilla leave. I would have loved to have seen him in this draft.

I just hope the others don't lose interest too early as well. The idea behind the draft is amazing, and I would love for us to complete it rather than see it fall to pieces.

You reckon going to Peñarol 40s and 60s was going to be popular? I had two paths there, one was blocked by Skizzo, the other by GS. Shit luck really.

I'm not sulking like a little girl, I'm lamenting the amount of time I am going to end up wasting on something I completely lost interest for. Which is precisely why I don't enter drafts any more.

The way things are going, shouldn't this be viewed more as a self-inflicted sheep draft? i'm sure we've all started out with some grand ideas about chains, and they're already unravelling before our eyes. We've all complained about the super-teams that less restrictive drafts have ended up creating, so this is basically the opposite. Worst case scenario, we end up talking about some under-appreciated players in the match threads, laughing at the picks that have no place in an all-time draft, and hopefully not taking the voting too seriously.

We should all write down our original chain (say the one we were planning after our first pick) and share them at the end.

@Edgar Allan Pillow It's just been brought to my attention that during the 2 seasons at Fiorentina, Gentile and Baggio don't have the necessary number of league games. Can I pick again or am I going to be lumped with Titus Bramble?

nah, im pretty sure we can find a player if he doesnt want to play.....plenty of draft players around and if nobody wants to play, almost everyone has AM so one of them can go and play alone.
