So, some in here are suggesting we buy 5-6 first team players.
If this happens, then next season will also be a write-off. There is no way that you can buy half a new team and expect them to perform like league winners, from the first game of the season. I think this would be unprecedented.
We saw evidence of this, this year. I think we got 6 new players and result is 4th place. Last year Mourinho got 3rd in his first year.
If you want to win the title, you need to stick with what you already have and buy 2-3 first teamers (which is what Chelsea did last Summer). You can buy 2-3 squad players, as well.

6 new first teamers means that we are not attempting to go for the title next year, which just isnt going to happen.
LVG was given CL qualification this year and league title next year.

And for those who think our defence is bad - this is not the case. Our problem is that we can't create/score chances, which means we may need to buy a striker (or a midfielder who can help create goals). I believe LVG wants to bring in Bale, as he should be able to add to our goal tally. RVP seems past it. Wilson is young. Falcao is a joke. Rooney is our only striker.

Don't think De Gea will go yet

RB £15-20m
CB £30m
CM £15-25m
Winger £20m

Realistic total around £90-100m

Wildcard marquee Gaalactico signing, OR two mega stars £50-80m

Wildcard total possibly up to £180m

I feel like I'm doing okay so far. Although I couldn't have dream the CM totals would be 2 different players.

We got the bulk of our big signings on that plane, and that has been a key key plus for that summer. Just like summer 2007, we got the bulk of our summer business done very early, meaning they can bed in settle into the flow of the teams style of play, and that gets them started for the season to come. No question the engine room will be probably our strongest area if the players settle into the way VG wants them to play

Those saying less than 50mil. You have time to change your vote.

23m for Depay
13m for Darmian
14m for Schweinsteiger
24m for Schneiderlin

So 74m total, if those prices are right (I think they are). fecking great business for those 4 players.

So we acquired Darmian, Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin for less than the price of 1 Pogba :)

That's quite some business. Some fair deals for us finally. The 24 for Schneiderlin leaves a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth though. I think 17m should be enough considering that's about we bought Carrick/Young for.

If we're in for another CB and striker, spending could reach a possible £120m or so. Maybe more if we need a new keeper.

So that's about £270m under Van Gaal. We better see some trophies.

£17m in 2006 is probably like £25m now. It's a very fair price for Schneiderlin.

I know that this thread is about gross spend but if we sell Di Maria and De Gea (plus RVP / Nani, maybe Hernandez) our net spend will probably be negative at the moement - the warchest (sponsored by Adidas) hasn't even been opened yet!

I imagine replacing De Gea will cost pretty much the same we're going to receive for him, we'll spend around £30m on a defender and if Di Maria goes we will probably search for a marquee signing at £40m+ (Cavani? Ramos?).

I know, I know - just that if Di Maria does go I am keeping my hopes up that we have a HUGE signing lined up :smirk:
