Woody's been briefing again it seems. One signing might already blow your prediction away if the stars align...Much less than people are anticipating, I reckon.
Sub £100m.

Sub £100m.
15 million buys you feck all these days. You expecting three non english teens/utility players?i think we've had more time to plan, we're looking like we should be back in the champions league and I think we'll be under less pressure to pay the big bucks
4 players in for around 80-100 million tops
one expensive maybe and perhaps 3 around the 15 million mark

This.
I can see:
Hummels - £25m
Gundogan - £20m
Clyne - £20m
Depay - £20m
And, hopefully:
Bale - £80-100m
Would be an excellent summer!
I do expect the same amount as last year, which is huge in every point.
- Herrera 30M - spent half the season on the bench
- Shaw 27M - spends most of the time injured
- Rojo 16M - plays when not injured - good value - good buy
- Di Maria 60M - keeps the bench warm
- Blind 14M - plays almost every game - good value - good buy
- Falcao 8M -
Net spend in the Summer: £70M (maximum)...excluding Bale.
If Bale joins, add another £80M.
Given that our most expensive players end up on the bench and are next to useless, I think we will learn from this and end up buying lower cost players (upto £30M).
Someone stated earlier in this thread that if we spend £150M+ we should go the CL final. Well, this would be true, if and only if, every expensive player performs, as expected/advertised.
My gut tells me that of all the (expensive) players we are being linked with, only Bale would make immediate impact, due to his previous EPL experience. The rest are likely to struggle to break into the first team (on merit) - perhaps needing a full season to adapt.
Just like Blackett and McNair have broken into the first team, I am hoping that next year we some more youth players, who later go onto become first team regulars. I am more excited about home-grown talent, than Galacticos who pick up a huge wage and warm the bench as they are not trained to deal with EPL power/pace.
Are you kidding me?
Our expensive players End up on the bench? You mean Di Maria.
He will likely come good.
Our team is full.of £20-30m buys. We need top shelf players, I.e. £40-80m.
We need QUALITY.
We wasted most of it. Please let us spend (waste?) a little more. Please. You've only just spent £150-odd million! It's not fair!
White text of course.
Any one of these will do, and are realistic, as long as we buy in each position, and at least two defenders.
Defender: Hummels, Stones, Dragovic, Coleman, Clyne
Midfielder: Schneiderlin, Gundogan, Witsel
Forward: Depay, Bale, Lacazette
Who when we need them now have proved to be lacking or injured. We need quality, not bench fillers.Daley Blind/Rojo style signings - after the splurge last year I'm not sure I see the same levels being spent.... Who knows though
Who when we need them now have proved to be lacking or injured. We need quality, not bench fillers.
As many commentators have said, we basically need to buy another half of a first team 11.
5 players.
I think it will exceed £150m gross, with a solid £20-30m coming in from sales.
In three key positions we need to fill there are few options out there: CB, CM and Striker.
Can't look past Bale and PogbA but they will obviously be very hard to get.
I would like Laporte as well, but he is only coming up 21. If we signed him and Hummels then great. We need some real experience and leadership. Smalling has been good, but he is not an organiser. I wouldn't want to put that responsibility on a young lad. Laporte is better than our present CB's and Hummels has the experience. If I was in charge of transfers
Darmian - £20m or whatever, not sure how much they want
Laporte - £30m
Xhaka - £25m
Gundogan £18m
Bale - £70m
Dybala - £28m
Whatever we spend would not be enough going by the recent team performances and injuries.
This. After the honey moon (defeating Spurs, Liverpool and City) is officially over, here is what I think we should do for next season:
GK: keep De Gea and we are okay
RB: definitely we need an upgrade there (Alves on a free would be nice, otherwise go for Darmian).
RCB: I don't trust much Smalling or Jones, but I think they should get an another year. Anyway, if we get another defender there, I won't complain (Hummels or Stones)
LCB: new signing (Hummels or Laporte) and Rojo
LB: Shaw, Blind and Rojo should be enough for that position
DMF: new signing cause Carrick isn't fit for half of the season (Schneiderlin)
CMF: Herrera is fine, but potentially we need another midfielder there (Gundogan)
LW: Young and Depay, we are fine there
AMF: Di Maria, Mata and Fellaini, we're fine here
RW: Di Maria, Mata and Januzaj, we're fine here
CF: we need a young pacey striker (Depay, Lacazette or Vietto) to cover for Rooney (or even get his position)
Not counting Depay that we've already signed, I think that we need 4-6 new signings in order to win the league. But anything less than a good RB, CB and midfielder and we will be in deep trouble.
I wouldn't just sign Hummels, especially with his injury record. I would be signing Laporte as well. Cannot trust the ones we have now to stay fit. A RB as well. A Carrick backup/replacement and someone to help out Herrera, he is having to do far too much work on his own. We have Depay, so a striker. This is mounting up.This.
Coleman/Clyne
Hummels
Schneirderlin
Gundogan
Depay
Lacazette
Around £150m should do it.
