We are about to sign the best defensive midfield player in Europe and there are fans on here moaning about it?

Who cares if he’s 30 and will only be top class for another 2-3 years. Unlike FdJ, he’s actually proven himself to be truly world class in one of the best leagues in the world and is going to substantially improve our midfield.

People need to chill the feck out.

Because for the love of feck, we NEED to replace Fred/McT with better players. Casemiro is a start. But hopefully we get FDJ.
 
Let's buy another midfielder like that Real Betis midfielder and kick everybody we come across.. I would be happy if we turn into Stoke that can play
 
This doesn't fix the midfield by itself but he is a huge piece. I have respected this player's game for years. Absolutely ecstatic to see him added to our team.

You know, Slyzi, the Galzers probably can’t count to 5, they wouldn’t know the difference between 30 and 35, 25 or 30. But, Syltzi, Toumictch and cavaminga are about 30 too, so Casamiedo isn’t that old, only about 24. sorry if I misspelt your name, Sleazy17, but I’m only 18 myself(ish).

This is exactly what I've been trying to say in this thread. He's a destroyer type DM, where as we need a deep lying playmaker who can shield the defence. In the form of a Carrick, Busqests type player. With Casemiro we are simply going to end up with another player in midfield who can tackle yes, nut not much else and is not good on the ball, can't carry the ball or dictate play. Unless we are signing another midfielder who can actually pull the strings on the ball then this is a bad signing.

Wow. Yes we might need more after him (it's a team game after all), but to call Casemiro a bad signing is way over the top!

Agree , we need quality now. This player has elite class quality.

If Casemiro is a failure here then the club really is a grave yard where careers go to die.
 
This is actually incredible. I just took a two hour nap as I need to do a bit of work late tonight and genuinely dreamed I watched him play Monday.

We are signing a world class player in arguably our biggest position of need. And we’ve got it done within about 24 hours of it being seriously talked about.

If this doesn’t fall through last minute this is genuinely the greatest thing that’s happened to us since confirming Ten Hag. Absolutely thrilled to bits.

Everyone moaning should seriously get a bit of help. It’s not normal to be that down in the dumps lads. This is good news! He’s not too old! He’ll give us a few great seasons! If you feel a strange and unfamiliar sensation on your face, it’s called a smile - don’t panic, just let it happen.

What a fecking quality signing. Now for a striker please!

He's 30 years old, of course he's aging. Saying he isn't doesn't change the fact that he is. Players age differently, yes, but he could enter a decline at any point over the next few seasons. We might get lucky, we might not - the point is we're making huge concessions to get this world class player. Real know that, that's why he's not indispensable, they have the next generation coming through because they know what they're doing. They wouldn't be making this decision if he was younger, that is clear as day so they clearly don't think age is unimportant.

That shows the difference between a succession plan, and a club bungling things with totally random acquisitions that sound good and repeating the same mistakes. We should have been building a squad from the ground up and accepting a bit of growing pain if necessary, instead we're parachuting this guy in. It's like groundhog day, we've done this dance with Real last summer without great success.

Conference League is where we'll be if we're lucky next year, because we can't put our hopes on a long term strategy right now to get us out of the shit we're in. We're woefully behind our rivals and haven't got time to take a chance on some "maybes". I'd rather we did that as well but realistically we're one more feck up away from becoming 90s Liverpool.

You used ageing in a derogatory way simply because the first number in his age starts with a 3 instead of a 2 (or maybe you didn't and I'm just very defensive about age now that I've turned 35 ffs). He's a DM not a striker. He doesn't rely on raw pace. Sergio Bouquets is a full four years older than him and still playing at Barcelona. In fact, look at the best DMs in the world and tell me which ones are younger than Casemiro let alone Busquets or any of the others.

Your third point; see my first point. Short term stability first, get CL again. Then we can target players that take us up a notch on our own terms. We're unattractive right now. But as a famous scholar once said; cocks out! :)

Very different to De Jong so don't really see how this isn't a huge shift in the plan.

Bruno is now the weakest link. This seems like a Matic signing. Will be top class for a season and then begin the slow decline of Casemiro.

Would people say Eriksen and Casemiro is a better midfield two than Pogba and Matic? I'd say slightly better overall.

I don't think I did(?!) I'm rather lenient when it comes to age because I'm an old fecker myself nowadays. If you find those though please let me know!
 
Oh yeah. A world class DM! Dont care about the amount of money for his service. Definitely an upgrade of mcfred. Whether he can coup with premier league or not, that's another story for discussion as the games progress.
 
I hope people know what they're getting with Casemiro. He's not the best on the ball but is an absolute beast defensively.

People expecting him to be some insane DLP need their head shaking.

Please understand that we are not the club we used to be. We don't have Sir Alex, the last time we won the league was 10 years ago, we can't guarantee champions league football.

Why would an upcoming player chose to come here? Don't get me wrong, the scenario you are describing is ideal, but unrealistic.

What we need right now is to stablish a team of experience players and achieve success in the short term, THEN look to attract promising youngsters.
 
Congratulations. Massive gain for your team. I would think other players trying to give less than full effort around Casemiro will not find much sympathy.

People laughed at us for signing Silva at 35, and it has absolutely changed many of our players.

You’re getting Casemiro at 30. He’s still in his prime really.

Definitely keep your eye on the prize with the Glazers, but this is big news.

I would pull Bruno fir the start of next game. Let Casemiro anchor, play Fred, and give Eriksen a shot up top where he plays best.

At the very least you can immediately set the message Bruno needs to be on his game and consistent to get time. And if you do get De Jong? Wow.
 
It’s not the long term planning and efficiency we should be showing, but let’s not kid ourselves, we are fighting a fecking fire and we have got in one of the best firefighters around. This is a desperately needed addition.

But the players aren't all magically failures because they cross the white line at Old Trafford. We're not cursed.

It's because we have zero ideas about what we're doing in the market. We don't seem to know how we're going to play, who suits it, how to get the right blend of legs and technique into a side, how to ensure a good balance of age profiles (see striker where we consistently sign pensioners)

Yet we are doing the exact same thing we have been season after season that is indicative of our muddled thinking and then fans get blinded by the name Casimero. He's world class, he'll propel us, the usual arguments.

Signing a guy seemingly on a whim because a big club have put him on the market, signing at the last minute, signing an aging star, all the usual indicators of how we operate yet many people seem to just get attached to the name in question as a defence for what we're doing.

How many times will we be seduced by names ahead of good process and then act surprised when the squad is random and failing and the individual quality of the players doesn't make any impact? We seem to go around in circles, the fans and also more worryingly the club.

Fred - Casemiro
Eriksen

I think this signing will be the end for Bruno. (I hope so).
