Useless this season. Real sold at the right time - like most clubs selling to us.

What do you expect? Top players in their prime have a multitude of better clubs to join, that’s why we have to pick up players that are past their peak. This club is not a draw any more, there’s only so long you can live on a name.

He's a big reason we've started as poorly as we have. He's been terrible this season.

i agree. But the problem is that he would’ve still performed at Madrid. Players, regardless their age, move to United and become terrible players.

So can we now start listning to older guys like Souness?

Casemiro last year was breath of fresh air. This year he is so dissapointing.

Nobody is stopping you from listening to Souness. Sure you would be listening to very dated talk about football and hows its about desire, huff and puff and that ''in the old days' it was all much better but if you enjoy that, nobody is stopping you.

Almost like giving a 30 yeard old a 4 year 300k a week contract is not a good idea

A key player for us this season as well, probably the most important player. If he performs well we should do fine, if his legs are gone we will struggle to reach top4. Hopefully we can sign Amrabat but he is not a top4 player imho, but still a useful squad player.
He will be fecked in this setup with Bruno and Mount.
Totally agree with Jamie there. Listen, he was absolutely great at times last year but the warning signs are there. It’s just a typical no plan signing from us and we need upgrade next year as a priority and also add this year. Other PL midfields are much stronger.
Said it last Feb. His legs have gone. A huge problem going forward that we have no alternative.
Him and Eriksen were fun to watch last season but always felt like short term fixes. Looks like we need a whole new midfield again.
Unfit and slow, his defending has been shambolic in those two games.
Are we still pretending that his legs haven’t completely gone and that he’s the ‘best DM in the league’? Or are we actually going to accept that he’s been absolutely horrific since coming back from his last suspension? Spends the whole game diving in and getting walked past like he isn’t even there. Plays like he’s in his late 30’s.

£70 million & £375k a week for 6 good months of form. Absolutely brilliant and in no way totally and utterly predictable :wenger:
A lot of us fans saw this coming. 65m for a player in rapid decline and no sellon value. Needs Amrabat next to him or needs to be benched to accomodate Mount.

Cas was or is a great player. But honestly, we should avoid dealing with this type of signing. We never got anything good from signing players like him in the past. We had to look for a different player within 2-3 years only to do the exact same type of deals, and it is a never-ending cycle.

He has been really poor this season and it's definitely concerning. On current form, he doesn't deserve to be an automatic starter every match.

Yeah lets listen to the guy who signed Ali Dia.

It was a pretty desperate signing. I don’t think even Woodward would have allowed it to happen, made even less sense given our financial circumstances.

The only saving grace is we may be able to sell him to Saudi Arabia but given the incompetent leadership at the club even that won’t be easy.

We need to go back to those basics. To that football. Direct football. With lot more power, hard work and passion. We are not good enough to play some "modern" style.

Well it's one player I think we can offload to Saudi if it doesn't work out and I've felt his desire and belief to help the club went at some point last season. Still have a few games yet to get fit and Amrabat to come in but even then it might be best to let him go while we can and focus on younger players. He was absolutely brilliant for about 5-6 months last season and even in his poor early games I could see the class in him as a midfielder.

I love this player but he doesn’t seem able or willing to play at the tempo and intensity we need. Maybe when Amrabat can partner with him or spell him, we will see peak Casemiro. Currently he is playing like his best years were spent in a better team in a slower league.

A slow start from him but I won’t write him off yet, the whole midfield seems constantly open which makes his job nigh on impossible.

It happens when you sign players in their thirties and give them a massive contract. I wouldn't sign players aged over 25 for big money(avoid buying them at all price, with some possible exceptions).

Varane was a classic Woodward signing, Casemiro wasn't(because Woodward wasn't at the club anymore) but it feels exactly like it. Arsenal buys Declan Rice, Chelsea buys Caicedo(and Kante before that), City buys Rodri and we buy past his prime Casemiro who's in his thirties and physically spent.

Manchester United just suffers the consequences of it's stupid actions. Nothing less, nothing more.

I’m bored with the term “modern football”. Top clubs in the 70s through around 2010, presumably the beginning of the modern era, would have slayed today’s top “modern football” clubs.

Been poor for a long period of time now. He had the suspensions at the back end of last season followed by poor/tired form that he’s brought into this season

I'm bored to. I'm fed up with this playing from back. Just typical nonsens football that gets you nowhere. We need to go back to basics. Simple. If people say it is old football so be it, but that football is way better and more clinical than what we are seeing today.

Looks done at this level, it's one thing being beaten in midfield because the opponents have passed it around you but to nowhere to be found tracking runners from deep on three occasions is pretty unforgivable. If he and McT tracked the play they would be there to harass the scorers when the passes/crosses are played in. That's just basic application.

Oh yes he would.

Very very slow start to the season again and this one was a proper 2-3/10 performance.

A complete disaster on the pitch today. Poor passing and no legs. I said it before the season: we should have gone all in for a young quality DM. We’re going nowhere with a spine as slow and unathletic as Case, Eriksen/Mount, Varane, Martinez.

If you ever mention signing 30 year old is a bad investment in this forum you will be laughed out of this place. Rangnick did say we should stop spending big on old players, 3 months later we did.

True the spine is so lacking in athleticism and technical ability. It's a big indictment on Murtough/ETH that this is all we have to show for after blowing £130m on the midfield in two summers and that the only complete package we might have is an injured 18 year old.

Agree to disagree. Think he started slow, had a good patch, then once he started getting reds he finished horribly. Think people just remember his goals and think higher cause of that. Thought he looked old and slow last season but def not looking any better this

I never cared about his goals, his defensive contribution was quite clear last season in how much more open we were without him. This year though those interceptions and tackles he was making a season ago hes now a step slow.

Anyone that called this signing out was called a FM muppet and laughed at. Turns out that signing an ageing big name player, for huge money on ridiculous wages, wasn’t the best idea afterall. Who knew :wenger:

If you wanted to take a signing that sums up everything that’s wrong with this club, it’s this one. He’s an absolute travesty of a player and has been since about February.

That we target different types of players. Look at younger, unproven talents. Just look at clubs like Southampton and Brighton. Why didn’t we buy Caicedo, Lavia, Mane, Ferguson, or MacAllister instead of Brighton or Soton?

No chance, he was clearly one of our best players last season and it was quite clear how much worse we were without him. This year he’s been shocking though
I thought we did decently in his absence last season, and he did miss a few games in the middle of the season. Then we came back out of form for a few games, which coincided with our form taking a nose dive.

Because we let Erik ten Hag dictate transfer policy.

Go back and look at the match results and stats. They weren’t good when he was gone. Whereas I don’t think we lost with him/Martinez/Varane until the 7-0

4 year contract on 300k a week and a transfer fee of 70 million odd, don’t think even Woodward signed off an equivalent deal to someone in their thirties.

I dunno. If Woodward thought he could cash in commercially, he might have considered it. But anyway, if those numbers are right, it's madness. His best years were at Real and even though his haul of medals is impressive, you have to wonder if he'll see out the four years. He looks shagged out already.

He's been storing Terry's chocolate oranges in his cheek pouches for the winter.

He looks like another Matic, a good player but on decline and many of us pointed this out last year. If someone for Arabia offers a good fee in January it would be wise to sell.

Yes essentially Madrid got best years out of him, sold him for a profit and bought his replacement and we’re the mugs that made it happen.

He's been very underwhelming. If it persists, I wouldn't be against sending him off to Saudi Arabia.

This happens when you don’t have someone with footballing knowledge who has something to say

It's hard to control the game when your only DM think he's playmaker (78% pass completion) and defending like ones also. Not when his partner isn't that good on defending.
