I don't think thst he had a bad game. He was better than in previous games. He is not a problem.

I thought he was ok, but looked fairly slow from the start, and pretty gassed towards the end of the game. Best he has played this season though.

Thought he was ok again but he's not dominating games like he should be. Passing was decent today but I just expect a bit more.

I think he's finished. Without him playing well, we're going to have a lot of problems this season.

Didn't notice him being off it as much today. Amrabat will help him loads.

Really don't see them as a natural pairing and playing 2 deep midfielders surely isn't going to help with using the keeper so much in the initial phase, Ten Hag wants to draw the press in, beat it with a direct pass and then have quick support from midfield.

I think he'll push higher up the pitch. Today he was dropping deep receiving the pass between the CBs. It shouldn't be him doing that

Casemiro likes to press high and get forward.

Wasn't it Cas pissing about with the ball that led to Arsenal's corner? Seems to be trying his hardest to prove Souness correct.

He's playing below his standards but who is actually playing well? He's being asked to cover 5-30 yards of space when it should be 5-20 at most when players are in their proper positions and cohesive.

This single pivot and lack of midfield/control business is on ETH.

It was his play and final pass for Garnacho's offside goal btw.

It was concerning to me that Eriksen was working far harder and showing for the ball much more. He was a bit of a passenger in a game which he should be looking to lead in. It is probably because he is not properly fit, which I find annoying... even though it might well be temporary.

Rice is a better player, £40m more but they'll get at least the next 5 years out of him rather than just 1 good season.

The way he’s moving around can’t be blamed on ETH, he’s so slow that everyone is just breezing past him and even when only couple of yards of space he’s too slow.

He did do well for the offside goal but he got caught in possession for lead up to their 2nd because he was so ponderous.

I think Amrabat- Mainoo will be our first choice pair by the start of next season.

I don't disagree. My point is more than Casemiro has obvious great attributes and obvious poor ones but the team set up/personnel is absolutely leaving him stranded too. That's true for everyone to be fair.

Class player, but he's on the downward side of his career trajectory curve, same as Varane.... hope we get a tune out of them this season, two seasons is an unrealistic hope I'd say.

I think Amrabrat will displace him from the XI by season's end(and likely sooner).

Best performance of the season so far, but he set a really low bar in the first three. Hopefully, today can be the turning point in his season.

His passing was mostly off the mark, though the assist for Garnacho's offside goal was good.

Still defensively a shadow of his last season peak. He needs a more defensively and physically astute partner.

Wish people would read and understand this. Casemiro was never an all-action terrier running an inordinate amount of miles per game at an eye-watering pace and closing everything off by himself, so why do people expect that of him now, or at all? He isn't Kante or Davids who is after one and the next and the next; it's about picking the opportune moments to commit, but that's been shorn of him because of the midfield's porous state where we neither control or dictate a single thing.

Put him in a team who's midfield actually functions and he's still one of the best in the world. Unfortunately, we're the antithesis of that and pretty much chaos personified, which makes Casemiro's job basically fighting the tide, something that is not his forte in the first place.

He's definitely off the pace, but this legs have gone thing will be determined by what he looks like with a run of games under his belt and better contributions in midfield from his teammates, which, coincidentally, seems to be stricken from the discourse. People seem to forget he formed the best trio in football with the two best ball users in their respective fields in the game. It wasn't Casemiro by himself Ramboing from one chaotic scene to another; it was a harmonic control that afforded each one of the trio time to concentrate on their specialist roles. Casemiro is being asked to do far, far more now than is reasonable or logical. His name simply wasn't made in the way people now expect him to play.

As you've said, the failing is on getting a best in class player and then not facilitating his game and enabling him to do what he's best at.

Hopefully, this is the last time he plays without support. No pressure, Amrabat, lad. :nervous:

While this seemed like a better performance then before, I think he's still very much off the pace and looked gassed by the end of the game. Hope he gets back to his best soon.

I think he will come good but the early signs of decline are showing. We get clowned for it but investing so much on 30 years old is stupid unless you have a team that's ready to challenge.

Don't know why we didn't buy Bissouma for 30 million last season but then we were obsessed with signing FDJ who time and time again said he was not interested which shows poor squad planning

Casimero was never going to be long term solution, he's not that type of dm to carry the midfield, he's a destroyer a 31 year old one at that who's legs are now betraying him

Finally a guy who gets Casemiro on this fecking forum.

We are playing a midfield of a passive DM, with a CAM and a CAM in Bruno and Eriksen, out of which one is fecking all over the field and people really expect Casemiro to be able to cover those two's weaknesses.

I don't really get why football is so hard to understand sometimes, especially for people who watch it day in, day out.

Is Mainoo really that good? He needs to be exceptional to replace Casemiro (even if he is losing his legs) or any other player we can afford on the market next summer.
I think Ten Hag only plays players he fully trusts. He clearly doesn’t trust players like Maguire and Van de Beek - we could easily have played them more often and got away with it. One of those players he trusts is clearly Garnacho (regardless of age) and the other appears to be Mainoo. It might not necessarily even be down to quality but the profile. No one else in our squad is defensively sound like he is while being press resistant, secure/ calm on the ball (other than Amrabat).

He needs to have a more constructive role. His vision and IQ are great, but he can't do that and also defend at his age. He needs a full defensive mode DM to pair with him and let him go forward more.

Absolutely fecking useless, does not give the slightest shite

Saudi written all over him. Unfortunately we don't have long-term thinking to sell him.

He's done, Another short term band-aid signing.

Worst of all, it tied our hands up while other top clubs snapped up all the young hungry midfielders.
