I reckon he sometimes gets bored when the game isn’t a high enough intensity and that’s where sloppy passes start creeping in.

Solid performance again though.

It's weird seeing a midfielder not take 4/5 touches, nearly over run it into the opposition and foul them turning the ball over.
This. Always this. Every time he gets the ball I scratch my head because i am trained to believe that he won’t control it.
Thank God for Casemiro. He has changed how I look at football.
As someone said “different gravy”

It's always been the starkest contrast between us and top European clubs when watching them over the past 10 years. Watching Real or Bayern just effortlessly transition from defence to attack without their midfielders laboring on the ball under pressure or shitting themselves. No longer though.

Him and Martinez were sensational in that first half and really showed just how much quality players can make the world of difference in a system. As I’ve often said, football moves quickly and this Utd team looks like it’s starting to fire up to me.

I think this applies to his defensive work too, he's been diving in in the Europa game with the knowledge if they play round him the opposition don't have the quality to score against us anyway so he can try win the ball early at every opportunity.

One and two touch. His appreciation of what’s around him is fantastic, Scholes-esque

Average Joe in the eyes of Sourness

He’a pretty much a modern day souness. Which is just funny.

Aggressive, two good feet, good in the air, can pass and carry the ball.

Pretty rare to see a 30 year old play like he does. He’s ace.

I hate to say it but am I ever wrong about a new signing. This guy is finished, Madrid sold us a dud. No wonder Ten Hag doesn't start him. He doesn't suit the type of football Ten Hag wants to play. He's a destroyer type DM and what we need is a possession based DM like Carrick/Busquets. It's another 60m down the drain and he'll probably just be a last 10 minutes off the bench player which is what he should be at most. Early days I know but I don't think he's going to be a good player for us, he's another player that lacks mobility like Maguire and they struggle in the premier league. Clearly he's not as immobile as Maguire, but he's not the quickest and not the youngest which is going to cause him problems.
This Nostradamus is no longer with us otherwise we would have a nice little friendly chat.

Cheeky bid in January to see if we can't tempt de Jong, anyone? :p on paper that midfield with either Fernandes or Eriksen at the pinnacle sounds like absolute filth. Where on earth did Madrid pluck this lad from?

Yesterday, a Brazilian sports journalist (Mario Marra, ESPN Brazil) said that "England discovered casemiro. It seems the English media doesn't know how good it has always been."

Casemiro has always been a world-class player. And in addition to trophies, he has better individual numbers than Kanté throughout his career (whoscored), for example.

Dont have any stats to prove it, but it does seem we maintain attacks better with him as he (and the team) are pushing and winning the ball back in the opponents half and at higher positions (with the solidness that Case brings to our midfield at winning the ball back and being in good positions to do so)

I like how when he got a whack last night first half, he got up and moved off the pitch for treatment to not waste time and allow us to continue dominating with 10 men.

Nobody should be relying on stats — xG, fY or whatever — to see what a difference Casemiro has made to our team performances.

I’m not a fan of Real, but like many here I watched them a lot over the last 5-6 seasons and can tell you Casemiro has another gear in him and we’re going to see it. Upcoming opponents should be very concerned.

Thought he was superb in the first half but he was poor in the second for sure. Ref had it in for him

Yea I saw it the same way, very good in the first half but then seemed to get tired in the second. Has played quite a few games back to back so that could be part of the reason for it.

Either way even though the second half wasn't too good you can still see he is many levels above McTominay and Fred.

Thought he was ok. Good first half and helps us push forward and is good at passing

Second half was ok but then it shows a midfield of him Fred and mctominay is bad

Definitely looked leggy, he's played a lot of football in the last 2 weeks.

Wasn't awful but just not his best.

I'd rest him against Sociedad and Villa in Carabao Cup while playing him against Villa and Fulham in the league. League is more important.

I am surprised how his passing seemed to fall apart second half. I can only assume that was tiredness after his midweek exertions.

ETH’s huge beaming smile when asked how good a signing Casemiro is…”For me, he’s brilliant!”

Had a brilliant game in my opinion. No other midfielder would have survived how deep our defence was today.
We play this deep next game, we lose. Doesn’t matter who the opposition is. There is no way he could have played his natural game today, when cbs were sat on top of DDG and a forward line that was treating the ball like a grenade.

He has mispassed the ball a lot in basically every game this season but his strengths covered this particular weakness till today.

Reading this thread is proof enough that there only exists black and white for a lot of football fans. He was far away from "awful" today, he was just not as good as the last few games. Very good first half and then we lost control and also Casemiro got worse. His passing was bad in the second half (while very good in the first), part of the reason is that we had less options in the second half as our players didn't show up too much for the ball. Still, defensively he was an anchor and good.
