Carney Chukwuemeka

Is he the same profile as the youngster we just signed Sekou Kone. If so may as well use him instead
Sekou seems much more of a defensive midfielder with a similar profile to Moises Caicedo. Likely being seen as the future DM behind Ugarte.

Carney is far more attacking generally playing more as an advanced 8 / 10 or even winger in senior football at Villa and Chelsea. However in the England youth teams has played more in the 8 role so that’s probably where his future lies.

The Man Utd website says Sam Mather is a left winger. Dan Gore is also a lot smaller — I don’t think either sound like comparable players in profile to Chukwuemeka

Mather usually plays left wing, he's also played as an AM for the u21s a few times. Dan Gore is a CM and despite his size is aggressive. Chucky is more of an AM but he would absolutely get gametime at the expense of our young midfielders the same way we had McTominay playing, starting from our midfield 2 but getting forward.

With those 4 extra games in the europa league, we'll likely be playing every 3 days. We desperately need some midfield options or we will have another season full of injuries.

He was very highly rated as a youth player, but I doubt he played 1000 minutes in senior football since he broke out 3 years ago, so of course the highlights will be underwhelming.
That's not exactly reassuring either tbh.

That is helpful. Thanks!

Really weird we’d not go for it, we’re still woefully weak in the middle of the pitch.
I think we need a cash sum for Sancho to register a profit and clear him off the books for PSR reasons. A swap would be a £0 sum figure for his release which doesn't clear the books of his fee.

True, if it’s for that sort of reason I get it and it’s wise. We’re actually being smart finally.

He’s actually a really good talent. Didn’t think much of him at Villa but in the games I saw when he fit at Chelsea he looked very impressive.

His physicality and dribbling in central attacking areas is something completely missing in Bruno and Mount.

he fits the profile of the type of player INEOS and Ashworth have been looking to sign

But the swap would add a new asset to the balance sheet.

Sancho loan with obligation to buy at £25m + £10m, with Chuk coming here on a loan with an OPTION to buy at £20m next summer feels fair and doesn’t significantly damage either team’s PSR this year.

He would fit right in!

Has to be a net positive if we get rid of Sancho's wages surely?

Injuries aside, he's been one of our brightest whenever he's played and was looking to stake a claim as 10 last season (before another injury). I think the competition in that area and his injury history are the only reasons the club are willing to sell him - I would prefer to keep him. Very good in tight spaces, touch, balance etc. A great punt for any club.

Oddly enough, this guy will still be an upgrade on Sancho if we were to do a straight swap. The bar is indeed that low.

I'm not entirely sure, but I know that they prefer two separate deals that involve cash sums so they can get creative with the finances. Expenditure is amortised over the length of the contract whereas a sale goes down as a lump sum received in this financial year.

Personally given his injury issues I think it would be a massive risk for us to sign him permanently now, hence why I think a loan with an option would suit us.

I know basically nothing about this guy so had quick look on Youtube. And ok, I know these videos can be misleading, but this has to be the most underwhelming highlights video I've ever watched. If this is his best parts cherry picked, consider me a doubter.

Looks pretty mobile with the ball, and a good dribbler, despite being pretty tall. Good ball retention, often manages to keep the ball in situations where you'd expect him to lose it. Receives well under pressure and on the half-turn. Good at carrying the ball. Passing, ball striking and link-up play seems decent too. Running power seems to be there as well and I like his long strides. Based on the little I've seen of him, I think in a good environment, he could be moulded into an excellent #8, but he's probably a bit raw. Not much first team football under his belt despite turning 21 soon. No doubt he would be a much more useful player for us than Sancho has been, though.

it does look like we are wanting to bring in another midfielder or winger before the window closes

i think this kid would be a good option bc of his age and mobility plus he has senior level experience

Strange we didn't go for this then

Ducker saying we are firm admirers, however looks too late to sign him in this window

I'd have liked this option tbh but looks like it's not going to happen at this stage. With Mount injured again, he'd have been a useful squad rotation player. Maybe he was only interested in a starting role.
