Cardiff City vs. Manchester United

It's quite baffling the way Moyes overlooks Fabio. For one thing, he's a better option than Büttner, but he's also a more versatile option seeing as he can play both sides fullback and also functions arguably better than Büttner up the pitch.
Agreed. I've accepted he just doesn't like him, but what does that mean for Rafael? There's a few rumours of us being linked with right backs for whatever reason, but it makes no sense seeing as we have arguably one of the top5 right backs in the world, and the future best in the world, starting for us always. Why would we want rid of him? Would be idiotic by moyes.

The only little nagging feeling I have that there's something in it is because of the strange dislike moyes has for Fabio. Like you said, can play both fullback positions, is much much better at it then both smalling and buttner, can also play in midfield on the wings, but yet he's never in the squad.

I think today's game carries more significance than the win over Arsenal. That weekend, if memory serves, the other contenders dropped points, whereas they've all won today. Drop points here and we'll be almost back to square one, and a win would take us up to fourth.

Come on Reds!

Is there another team that gets as many niggling little injuries as ours?
try to think back to yesterday when Dortmund had to face Bayern withouth Hummels, Subotic, Pisczek, Schmelzer and Gundogan.
But ye, we're pretty unlucky with that.

Why is Rio Ferdinand in the team when there are two other centrebacks fit?

I don't want to have a go at players but he's looked more past it than Lauren Blanc did just before he retired. If he wants to fight to prove he's still got it, fair enough, but no way on earth he should be brought back in to start a potentially difficult game which we actually need to win. There are other options, and they happen to be ons that can handle 2 games a week.

That's a weak looking team all over tbh. Hernandez is in poor form, Fellaini and Cleverley haven't managed a decent performance between them this season (Fellaini nearly did until he got himself sent off). Rio's been appalling every time he's played. Smalling isn't a fullback. Weak links all over the fecking place.

Good post, mate.

It truly is baffling and one I feel he should explain to the fans as many are starting to questoin this.

Who are the two other centre back fit? Vidic and Jones are injured and Smalling is needed at right back. The only different side we could play is Fabio at right back and Smalling at centre back with Evans. Moyes clearly does not rate Fabio which leaves him with the team he has picked today.

Rafael, Vidic, Carrick, Jones, Kagawa, Van Persie all injured.

That's some rotten luck right there.

I know City have Kompany out and it's a national disaster, we have loads out and know one cares less. We just have no luck with injuries.

I don't quite share your sentiment that Rio has looked that poor, but he hasn't been great exactly. I think he'll prove you wrong, but we'll pick that glove up after the match!?

Hernandez isn't in the form of his life, but he can still provide some goals. Smalling is very good defensively as a fullback, hence the discussion of who was better than he or Rafael some way back (I always voted Rafael), but in my opinion that should be Fabio on that right back and Smallin as CB as I think he's a beast as CB.

Midfield is a concern, agreed. I still think that Ando should be given one last chance to prove his worth now that Carrick is out. Cleverley has been rubbish lately and I don't think Anderson would play after giving such performances.

Considering Rafael plays every time he is fit the status of his brother has no bearing on him.

I think most people just doesn't understand why he doesn't rate Fabio as Fabio has played well whenever he's been given two minutes.

I don't think its some strange hatred that Moyes and only Moyes has for Fabio. He hardly played under Fergie and struggled to even make the team on loan at QPR when they got relegated. Obviously we don't see what happens behind the scenes, but something isn't right when Fergie, Redknapp and now Moyes are reluctant to put him in the squad when us fans think he's clearly better then Buttner.

The thing with Fabio is, his career has stalled for years. Fergie clearly did not fancy him as a left back as he has not played at left back for years for United and we signed Buttner. Fergie did use him at right back(still behind Jones and Smalling though) but the loan last season suggested he was not developing as everyone wanted. Moyes is using him the same way Fergie was in his later years. It might just be that Fabio is not quite as good as his brother. I've always liked him but we are basing this on Fabio's potential and his form 2 to 3 years ago.

Moyes - RVP picked up the injury in the Arsenal game, Vidic didn't recover from the concussion in time. Didn't mention Rafael.

Hoping for a confident performance with a few goals scored.

We'll probably put in a struggling performance and win 1-0 though.

Except that he was very good in pre-season yet hasn't been given chances after whereas Büttner plays rubbish then features shortly thereafter. That just doesn't make sense. During Fergie's time, Fabio was injured a lot, but now he's been fit for quite some time. He should be given a chance as Smalling is not a fullback. And Smalling should be given a chance at CB seeing he's not a fullback but a damn good CB.

hmm...was just thinking this game should be full of goals, will be interesting to see who's right :)
obviously we're both expecting a United win, although not a particularly easy one

Why is there no longer any kind of information in regards to our injured players?

Where is the mention of Rafa? Kagawa?

Worried about today. Really worried.

Pre-season is nothing and no bearing on competitive football. I don't think Moyes sees Fabio as a left back and Fergie did not either. As for Smalling playing, I don't think he fancies Fabio defensively.

Fraizer Campbell starting.. Good to see. Hope he has a shit game though

It's a bearing as you can see those willing to perform and you can see some sort of level. Playing well there, having Büttner playing rubbish, yet not getting game time doesn't make sense. Fabio has proven himself quite capable defensively, and fullbacks are such a vital attacking threat. Smalling makes Valencia poorer than he really is too.

It's just a bad feeling I have, considering Rafael is just a better, more developed version of Fabio pretty much, I don't know why he doesn't pick Fabio ever. Him not liking Fabio means that he's probably not as into Rafael as the rest of us are.

Januzaj and Rooney to guide us to a comfortable 2-0 win with no scares please.

Thank god this match is on so soon after that Ireland - NZ match. To say I'm sickened is an understatement. A good thumping of Cardiff would go some way to lifting my mood!

Great, Martin Tyler. can't wait to hear his obvious disappointment at us scoring.
