Cardiff City vs. Manchester United

How many late goals did we use to get from the fight and determination from our players? I understand we have players out due to injuries but I find Moyes substitutions baffling at times. We need Rafa back asap, Smalling hinders our attack and I really hope the rumours aren't true.

What rumours?

we've left ourselves needing to beat Tottenham away now.

Winning today would have set things up nicely.

Very disappointing indeed.

Last min goals are simply the worst thing ever.

At least Rooney didn't get sent off for that wild kick out tho. We'd have been playing 10men for 83mins and lost him for 3 games!
Small mercies.

We invite pressure because our midfield doesnt know how to recycle possession quickly so they end up playing it back and its hoofed upfield.

Last year we had 1 fucntioning midfielder in Carrick and look how we walked the league. Our midfield is such dog poo.

So is our attack if we're only capable to score two goals against Cardiff fecking City.

I agree with you, but if Rooney had been sent off, then he wouldn't have scored the first goal and setup Evra for the second goal. That is how it works so, I guess Cardiff could feel hard done by.

aye, it was a crazy moment from Wayne in the 8th minute of a game that in no way can be excused by his being wild and free. The red mist doesn't make him the player he is. And there was nothing happening in the game at that stage that logically built up to that ignorant decision. He was lucky to stay on no question.

Who would you have played?

I don't know - that's pretty much the problem. Our main midfielder and a defender who can play there gets injured and we're down to this. It's embarrassing for a club of our size really.

We need a massive clear out: Cleverley, Giggs, Young, Anderson, Valencia, Welbeck, Buttner, Fellaini. None of them are good enough.

hope some of the walking wounded are back for Wednesday. A defeat in that game, and suddenly it's squeaky bums to qualification

Some of you need to get a grip. It was a poor performance but we're unlucky unlucky with injuries. 4 of our best players weren't playing today - Rafael, Vidic, Carrick and RVP. We aren't completely shit as some would have you believe.

We clearly do need to strengthen in midfield though. Cleverley is not up to it and Fellaini is hardly going to control a game. The more I think about it Fabregas would have been perfect. We're crying out for someone to demand the ball and dictate play with some sort of authority - a Scholes mk2.

We all know Fabregas would have been perfect, but he was simply never coming here.

Fellaini for 27.5m will never seem a good buy, this isn't just early season fretting.

However, a good couple of wins, and we'll be right back amongst it. But Tottenham away will be much harder than today. Definitely need VP, Rafael and Vidic back. They can rest on Wednesday.

In sixth place, City back above us, 7 points off top.

All the hard work of recent weeks frittered away.

Exactly. One step forwards and then one step back. We really need to shape up and by now Moyes should have the team looking better. Its still the same shit although in his defence we did have a lot of key players out.

Nonetheless, this was 3 points in the bag. Whether it be defending the setpieces better, not giving away freekicks, Welbeck finishing and obviously Rooney at the end. Absolute shambles.

Every win is a struggle for us. Top 4 will be hard but we should just about scrap it ahead of Pool.

What you need to remember is that with the new rule, Rooney could get a retrospective ban even if the official saw it since it came into law the 22nd of November. So, he could still get three matches.

There is a guy called Tom from Wigan on MUTV who is going ballistic about Gary Neville and that he has taken Sky's gold. He wasn't happy with things he said about Wayne.

Tom from Wigan was probably calling Rooney all the names under the Sun a couple of months ago, the lunatic.

Probably, I think he was more bothered that Fellaini was getting penalised for being Fellaini than committing fouls and the fact that he got slapped and the Cardiff playerbwasn't sent off. If Gary wants to criticise Wayne, that's fine, but if the Cardiff player got away with it as well, say so.

Does that include when the referee punished the incident there and then with a card too? I.e. can the FA disciplinary people increase the punishment from a yellow to a retrospective ban?

what a different feel it would have been if we'd held that for a couple of mins longer!

We'd be 4th, and a mere 5points off Arsenal, and 1 point off 2nd!
Now it's all depression.

I am not so sure, but the fact that he saw it and punished Rooney could be in Rooneys favour. However, should the F.A deem it to be violent conduct which it was, then Rooneys could get an automatic ban. Again, this rule only came into effect Friday so, it could be possible. Should he get a ban, there shouldn't really be any complaints. It is the same with Midel. The referee possibly saw the incident with him and Fellaini and allowed them to carry on. The FA will give Midel a retrospective ban for sure.

Who are the two other centre back fit? Vidic and Jones are injured and Smalling is needed at right back. The only different side we could play is Fabio at right back and Smalling at centre back with Evans. Moyes clearly does not rate Fabio which leaves him with the team he has picked today.

He doesn't want to play Fabio at RB so Smalling is used up there. Who else would you play at CB then?

I don't get why he couldn't use Fabio but even failing that, Valencia is a better makeshift fullback than Smalling is and that would allow Smalling to move into the middle. We have an abundance of players who he could have then put on the wing (the far more sensible solution would still be to just play Fabio, but I dunno, maybe he keeps turning up for training dressed as Hitler or something).

It was bizarre to me, and it got shown up in our pathetic passing out from the back both from Smalling out wide and Rio in the middle...though admittedly Cleverley's attempt at midfielding was both partly responsible for this and a bigger problem on the whole...but then, he didn't have to play Cleverley either and certainly should have taken him off.

To be fair to Rio there were countless times he looked up and there were just no options at all. Same with Smalling.

Let's just sell the whole team while we're at it. Talk about over-reaction.

Apart from Valencia who is alright, Welbeck, and maybe cleverley (both squad players at best is all they'll ever be), he's spot on about the rest of them. Giggs shouldn't be there but he's retiring most likely anyways. Young, Anderson, Buttner, aren't good enough to even be squad players, and we should never have gotten Fellaini in the first place. We do need a huge squad clear out, and I can see like 7-8 squad/first team players either leaving/retiring/not getting a new contract in the summer. Next few windows will definitely be interesting.

Valencia, Cleverley, Giggs, Welbeck, and Fellaini all have a place in this side, be it as squad players or first team players, for the time being. Anderson looks like he's off anyway and maybe Buttner too. Why Fellaini is in that list is beyond comprehension - give him until the end of the season. It talks of another knee-jerk reaction that can't be justified in any way. Valencia has been decent this season, I agree with all the criticism he received today by the way. Cleverley is, at the moment, a squad player at best. Selling him would mean you either buy a replacement or promote a player. And to be frank with you, Cleverley has been shocking in a couple of games this season (Liverpool, Stoke, and Cardiff), but he's also been very good in tough away fixtures (Sunderland and Fulham). Giggs should be nowhere near the starting line-up, it says a lot about our squad that he's considered as a central midfield in important fixtures, but when he's used as a sub, or on the left, he's very effective. Welbeck has world class attributes; finishing happens to not be included in this list for the time being, unfortunately. He's done well thus far this season and has endured a better start than last season.

Moyes will get his chance to build his side, but it we're not going to have six, or seven players leaving in one window...
