The Harvard students who criticized Israel after the Hamas attack are having their names published on trucks.

Impt bits (since in the Elon era, tweets are essays) -
As president I will change the official federal definition of antisemitism to include denying Israel’s right to exist
Federal law requires schools to combat antisemitism. We will give this law teeth and we will enforce it.
There is no difference between anti-Zionism and antisemitism.

The "Israel exception to free speech" - with anti-BDS laws, loyalty pledges in much of red America, and loss of employment for critical views - has been a thing for years, not a result of, or bearing any relation to, progressive views on free speech.
In fact, pointing it out, as an actually existing fact, showing the inherent limitations in the meaning of free speech, is something progressives have been doing since this debate existed.

Dear Bone Headed Bigoted Cnuts,

Why do cnuts like you, who don't give a feck about this stuff, insist on giving a feck about this stuff? It wasn't affecting your life in any meaningful way so why are you so fecking adamant that you're going to disrupt and ruin other people's lives with your hate spewed complaining? You are a sad bunch of insecure feckwits.

Yours sincerely, Mx Pigeon.

Recently been reminded about this from 2011  Shakamoto/"Bernie Flint".

Would it fly in the current climate or would national treasures V&B be goners?

Are you implying that the right wing press concern about free speech wasn't genuine?

Just missed’: German comedian loses job over Trump shooting joke

Sebastian Hotz, aka El Hotzo, was dropped from his radio show and provoked anger from Elon Musk after now-deleted posts on X

So it's not just racists and sex offenders getting cancelled now
It's actually racists and sex offenders that Elon Musk has repeatedly uncancelled on his platform and offered his full support to.

Have a weird one going on at the moment.

A male colleague was talking about Wicked and couldn't remember the name of the witches so referred to them as "that green bitch and the normal one". A few of us sniggered at the comment, slightly because we didn't expect him to say something like that so brazenly in public and also in context of what he was talking about.

Some girl took offence and has said that it's racist and mysogonistic and I think she is reporting the dude to HR. She also told the rest of us that we should be ashamed of ourselves.

Has she got a point? And can she get the guy in trouble considering this was not during work hours or in the work office?

What's annoying me is that this same girl, who seems to get offended by everything, once slapped a male colleague on the arse during a night out, laughed when her pal called someone a fat bitch and also pretty much insinuated that a woman can only succeed at work if they don't have kids.

Please don't quote this as I plan to delete it in case an enquiry begins at work.

I love HR. Genuinely the best people!

"Bitch" is kind of mysogonistic although if the character described is an awful person then I think it's an OK description. Certainly not HR-worthy.

I also don't understand how it's racist.

Yeah, it's a weird one, he also refers to men as dickheads, bellends etc. don't think he was meaning to be mysogonistic but yeha, maybe comes across that way. But then again, so much comedy/music etc use the word so who knows. The racist bit is baffling.

FFS why is everyone quoting it

Please remove the quote @Scandi Red and @RedC

You can genuinely get me in trouble.
That quote from your co-worker is ill-phrased, given the actors cast in the film. Especially the use of the word 'normal'. It could be interpreted in a very negative light.

Whether the complainant is hypocritical is another matter.

So would it be less ill-phrased if the actress was white? I'm pretty sure he was talking about the character as opposed to the actor so not understanding this. Maybe I'm just a bit slow.

I have not seen the film, but if there are two witches and only one of them has green skin (and behaves particularly nasty), then I don't think that "green bitch and the normal one" is that mysogonistic. Although "bitch" is generally not acceptable to use.

It's definitely mysoginistic, probably racist, and also possibly fascist. You should report him immediately, to back up the complaint of your female coworker. Her out of context comment in a completely different situation has no weight here. She could have sworn personal allegiance to Hitler himself and it would not diminish your duty to back her up. Don't argue, just do what's right.

Context is everything. As is intention. Lord knows people can say things which come out terribly and are not what they mean.

The word bitch is problematic too, but if there was a white actor and an actor of colour and someone referred to the white actor as 'normal' and the other with a derogatory term, I would be concerned. If I had said that in my workplace, I would be called into a meeting with my line manager.

I would add that in a mature workplace, it would be possible to raise concerns discretely, and have a matter resolved, without turning this into a major issue. In fact, workplaces should have procedures to deal with these things without necessarily escalating them.

Yeah I get ya, although this was not during work or a work related event. But yeah, he should be more careful.

Considering how angry she got about a simple fan edit movie poster, "green bitch" sounds pretty accurate to be honest.
