Can you see Diogo Dalot stating a serious claim for the RB-position?

Would love to see him develop further and take the RB-position. Reckon he could be a better proposition than AWB. Views on this!

I think he's a considerable way off challenging AWB for the RB starter spot. But hopefully he can develop to the point where's he's a viable option, at least. The Everton game looked promising in that regard, but the Brentford game certainly did not. Nor Milan's games against United in the EL last season.

A thought I had watching him for Portugal against Belgium, and again against Brentford, is that he'd try ambitious and smart moves, but usually wasn't able to carry them out. Maybe that's a positive, as far as potential goes.

Even funnier are the comments 'he can't defend/doesn't understand defending". Like ANY player that clueless would get 21 league appearances in the Serie A for
a Milan. I'm guessing next to none of his biggest critics watched a minute of his loan last season and are just repeatedly judging him off his united past and his first game of this pre season...
Probably not. I did because one of my best mates is an AC Milan fan and I do watch their games to make fun of him when things are not going good

He has been good for a decent AC Milan side and has impressed for United since coming back. For a 22 yo defender that is more then good enough to deserve more training with us. He can also beat a man unlike our other options on the right.

The talent is there i would say. If he can get a good run of games somewhere he could turn into a very good fullback.
But i can´t see him getting those games with us this season. Another loan would make sense.

But we also need cover for both sides now that Telles is out injured. Not sure if Williams is enough.

One thing that's worth remembering with Dalot is he has really not played many games in senior football. He's played about half of what AWB has, who is somebody that we have said lacks experience and polish when he came to United.

He can't be written off just yet. It's hard to put on a positional masterclass and have great decision making going forward when he has very little experience in the grand scheme of things.

I too liked what I saw at Milan.
Honestly I think he has every chance of becoming an asset. Especially with fitness woe behind him. He and AWB will probably end up with a healthy rivalry that will push them to be better.

I dont think we need to be out buying another right-back this summer, think we could spend our money better elsewhere. . Dalot had a good season at Milan last year and i think he will get himself some game time this year. If given enough chances (odd league game and when AWB is tired and cup games) it will show if we need to go out and spend money on RB in the future. Big season for him here if he stays to prove himself , he will still be way behind AWB, but he will get chances for sure . He seems like a confident lad, and definitely has some attacking ability, so could offer us to be a different threat , especially with Sancho down there as well.

Also not a dreadful option to have if Ole decides to play 5 at the back (which he is prone to do every now and then).

He is decent option as a backup but not a starter (at least no yet). He is still young (22) so there is always a chance that he is late bloomer........

I don’t think the bar is particularly high with AWB.

Dalot never seems like he’s focused.

I don't understand why a young RB can't be in the squad while developing? If AWB gets injured for a few games, I'd rather have him as cover than selling him

How can our fans not appreciate AWB after years of tolerating the team carry average full backs. He is definitely a very good full back, only fails in expectations of being excellent in all respects. But he has time on his hand.

He would be a good option when we are facing defensive team. He is more capable to move forward and attack. Now we have Varane on the right CB, then we don't need to send out a strong defensive RB to cover our weakness right CB side when we are playing against low block team.
But we should experience that which (AWB or Dalot) one has better chemistry with Sancho in the right field.

He does has a good cross foot. I think im satisfy with his cross pass ability. Not as good as PSG full back Hakimi. But 2nd or battle for right back spot. The boy does has good basic ball skill and ability. Pass, receive, passing players with the ball and crossers. Better than average.

Bissaka, Dalot and Williams. 3 right back battle for 1 spot. Only Bissaka is close to PSG Hakimi level. But maybe United have good enought RB for a premier league winning team.
With Varane, Maguire, Shaw and a aggresive, mobile and physical strong McTerminator "the destroyer" to shield infront of the back line. All those combination and full packet of a defend, include the goalkeeper. Definitely a top 3 defend in the league. One of the reason United went unbeat last season away. A team hard to beat, but still had trouble to break down tight and parking bus teams too.

So back to Dalot again. Isolate. I do like the boy. For me. Good enough for the squad. Dalot is better in the offensive. Build up and creating. So a bit from different from Bissaka who are good one on one.

Miles away from Wan Bisaka. But probably an upgrade on Brandon Williams. I think we will see him utilized as a rwb if we want to change things up and go with a back 5.

I thought this thread had just been created right now as a WUM

Tonight’s showing shows why AWB is our starting RB.

Jose really did do a number on us with this signing.

Worst performance tonight by a mile and there were a lot of contenders but he easily beats them all. What hope he had at the beginning of the season is all gone for him after tonight.

It was a complete disaster. They constantly played on his side cause they're realized he's the weakest link.

Tonight will have decimated his confidence. I don't think he got a single thing right. And after every mistake, the camera seemed to linger on him to rub salt into the wound.

The worry is that he's still our second choice RB and is almost guaranteed to play against Atalanta in the next CL game because of AWB's ban.

Ole needs to work his man-management magic during the international break or we're screwed. Dalot isn't Manchester United quality in the long run, imo. But he's still better than this.

I don't know if we can recall Laird or Williams in January, so I think we might go back in for Trippier.

Can't even make a serious claim on the 2nd string RB position.

Horrible performance tonight. Need a better RB, and use AWB as backup.

This is one of those games that you need from time to time to help re-focus some people on here.

The fact people were talking about Dalot as a serious contender to AWB is laughable. AWB is 2/3 times better, regardless of what weaknesses his game may have

Today reminded me of Memphis’s performance against Midgetland back in the day when he was constantly going past their right back as if he wasn’t there.

Only this time we were on the receiving end.

I was thinking more Gary Neville's last game against West Brom.

Dalot needs more first team football. He looked way off it last night. AWB has a 2 match suspension so Dalot could feature against Atalanta, although I think Ole will go with Bailly of Lindelof.

I knew this thread would get bumped

AWB gets too much disrespect. He is so clear and the fact that there was any debate is laughable.

Can't defend. Over hit crosses. Please play Fred there next, or even Phil Jones.

Absolutely shocking. For all AWB’s faults there’s a reason why this guy isn’t close to challenging him. He got skinned time and time again, positionally awful and even going forward he wasn’t much better but people say attacking wise he’s better so needs to start.

Atleast we know if that was AWB there Danjuma wouldn’t be able to do that to him at all even in the current form AWB has been in.

It was pretty terrible agreed. The only mitigating thing I'll give him is this:
How many times tonight was a Villareal fullback exposed to Greenwood or Sancho, one on one?

And how many times was Dalot exposed one on one to Danjuma?

Tactics and coaching matter.

some people still think he's quite good, but that number must be dwindling now that he's playing a bit more

he's rubbish
