Bundesliga 2018/19

He played the first 4 matches, then went without game time for two matches, not in the squad for one of those, then he was injured for the next to games. So he actually played 4 out of 6 of the league games he was available for and started in 3. He also started all games in the CL and DFB cup.

It seems he has a thigh injury but, when available, appears recently to be in and out of the starting line up.

After losing 4-0 at home to Dortmund, Stuttgart have actually improved their position in the Bundesliga this weekend - going from bottom to 17th place.

Anyone ever hear of a worse result leading to a team rising in the table before?

I notice that Marius Wolf, who left Eintracht for BorussiaD in the summer, does not appear to be featuring significantly for Dormund this season.

After breaking into the first team, he had a great season last season for Eintracht when, for years previously, it seems he was going no where.
Now it appears he's back to square 1. Not on the bench yesterday and rarely in the team. . . Whenever he's in the squad he's usually left as an unused sub.

What's the story there?
Any Dortmund fans enlighten us?
Does Favre not fancy him?
Is he injured?

Always felt he was taking a risk going to Dortmund and that another season at Eintracht would probably have fared him better. . . I wonder did he listen too much to the hype.

He is injured at the moment.

He honestly didn't look that good early on though, and a few, me included, where slighly baffled by him being in. Defensively he's quite strong, but offensively he offered little. Going to be tough for him to be more than a squad player. Favre seemed to very much fancy him early on though, so all is not lost. But there's a lot of good players for those positions.

Yeah, not a table but the team that had to score an own goal to then win it in extra time tops this.

Well Dortmund have been superb so far this season. In the games I have seen of Dortmund Wolf has either not played (on the bench) or hasn't exactly set the world alight.

I must admit. . . Aa an Eintracht fan I was quite irritated that he took the first opportunity to jump ship. He played very well last season when he broke into the first team about a year ago, but I felt he owed the club at least another season especially considering his career was going no where when Frankfurt picked him up. I suppose that loyalty is a rare commodity in football and it's not everyday that a club like Dortmund come in for a player.

I don't wish him any ill luck (he scored v Eintracht earlier this season, good finish too), but I definitely feel his career would probably be in a better position if he had not left for Dortmund. Early days yet though. . . .

Yeah I think you might be right that sticking with Frankfurt would have served him well, he had a very good season last season.

I think the attraction for Dortmund was very much getting a good player at a reasonable buy out who is really versitile, and can cover many positions. But the down side for him is that he may find it hard to tie down a spot in the team. But the early showing would suggest Favre does like him as a player, so I reckon he will see a good amount of game time, but not necessarily as a sure fire starter.

It looks the little Hazard is having a great season at Gladbach.

He seems to get better and bettter each season for Gladbach, really good player.

Gladbach are doing great, they have a very good squad actually, I like the look of Alessane Plea too, he seems to have had an impressive start to his career there. Nice to see Dortmund old boy Jonas Hofmann doing so well too.

Yeah, not a table but the team that had to score an own goal to then win it in extra time tops this.

lol. . . Heard of that somewhere before.

Team apparently had to score an OG against themselves to give themselves more time in extra time to rack up some goal difference.
Weird setup . . whatever league that was.

It would be completely insane to let Kovac host the pre-match presser just to sack him an hour later. Not mention doing so AFTER an international break, someone else could've used to settle in.
Probably some announcement on the business end of things.

I would agree with you, but we know football clubs can be cruel sometimes. And stupid, as the presser afterwards has shown. Wtf were they thinking. Did Bayern need more enemies? What a nonsense press conference. Nothing achieved, nothing of value shared... only truly deluded people think anyone's actually interested in their mad ravings. I am a defender of Hoeneß and Rumenigge for as long as they bring us success, but this press conference was about as useful as a freezer for eskimos...

I hope everyone is enjoying the cheap shots. Can't fault you lot for having a good time with this. Try to remember, though, that titles aren't won or lost in press conferences... ;)

Very hard not to enjoy although that press conference comes across as more bizarre and juvenile than anything else.

I mean, these are grown men FFS. . . legends who have played the game.

HSV and coaches are just ridiculous.

I am happy to see former Dortmund boy Hannes Wolf back coaching though, wish him the best, he'll need it at that mad house.

Wolf is their 18th coach in the last decade.

They have currently four!!!! coaches under contract :wenger:

What? How? They've replaced their old coaches, without firing them and paying them a severance package, but they no other team has relieved them from their contract with HSV?

Mochengladbach trailing Freiburg 2-1 90th min.
BmG lacks the consistency to win the league, they smashed Bayern 2 weeks ago and now struggling with Freiburg

Didn't expect Gladbach to lose, giving their good run in the league. The Bundesliga is really unpredictable this season.

I am a big fan of Christian Streich and the job he does with SC Freiburg. Each summer they sell 1 or 2 important players, and don't ever spend a lot on that squad, but each season there he is, and there they are as a team, working their backends off for their club!

By the way their 3rd goal tonigjht was a bit good, and Streich's reaction to it even better!

Gladbach is not and never was a credible title candidate. They don't have the players or the coach to dominate teams for an entire season. Plea seems to have elevated them to the next level, but that's from EL candidate to CL candidate.

Gladbach also have one of the most ridiculous "curses" that I have ever heard about going in Freiburg: they only won one match ever there and that was 16 years ago.

They've always had a good record v Bayern iirc and it seems, as per the person above, that they have a poor record v Freiburg for some reason. But yes I never considered them a title contender.

Striech is a fantastic coach, have no idea how he has kept a squad as small and poor as Freiburg in the BL for all these years (think they got relegated once though but got straight back up) . Don't understand why any other club doesn't try to sign him.

He plays defensive football and says some weird stuff from time to time, including several ragequits on the sideline. No one cares because it is Freiburg, but at a big club, the expectations and the media would be serious problems for him.

That's true I suppose. You think it will be a failure like Markus Weinzell at Schalke? I would like to see Herrlich gone at Leverkusen and Striech be given a chance there.

Streich seems a bit like he's living in his own world, he's always talking in heavy dialect no matter who he's talking to, he studied German philology and he's often philosophing about what's going on in the world. The media also always likes to report that he's still riding his bicicle to matches. He doesn't strike me as someone who has ambitions to leave Freiburg, especially not for a club where the various pressures are so high that he can't be himself.

Leverkusen is the one „big club“ where he could work out because the media interest is very little and they have loads of young players he could develop. He could probably give them top 6 finishes every year, but they would struggle in europe big time. Streich has always failed in europe and his playing style consumes too much energy to sustain it over the course of 50 games.

Hasenhuttl was offered the job but he declined. I bet he is waiting for a chance at Bayern:lol: Hannes Wolf would have been a solid candidate, but he is at HSV now. There is pretty much no one available for Leverkusen right now, that is why they are hesitating before they fire Herrlich.

I think Leverkusen should wait for Bayern to sack Kovac and get him signed on the same day. He is the one guy who could deliver them silverware for the first time.

Marco Rose is the best candidate for any club in Germany, but for some reason he is not ambitious enough to leave his cozy seat at RB.

Understandable, at Salzburg he has been improving and growing at the same time with the same group of players with whom he won the UEFA Youth League. The most plausible job for him would be RB Leipzing since they hired Naggelsman what choices does he have? Don't know if clubs like Hoffenheim, Mainz or Hannover are atractive enough to take him away from Red Bull. But if I was a very rich guy and President of my club I would bring him to beautiful Lisbon tomorrow. :)

Both Dortmund and Frankfurt wanted him last season.

I could understand him not wanting the big Dortmund job from the beginning, but him at Eintracht would have been very interesting.

He needs to leave Salzburg asap because he can‘t show anything he hasn‘t shown before. We know he is great at winning the Austrian league and he is great in Europa League, but he should prove himself in Bundesliga with different circumstances.

He has time for that. Anyway Red Bull always get it right with their coaches, being Schmidt or Adi Hutter who worked there and he is doing very well at Frankfurt, sooner or later Rose will go to the Bundesliga, don't worry, he just needs to find the right club.

I just love Streich though. His interviews are always super entertaining, his words are something to think about.... great human being, great coach in Freiburg!

He definitely adds something to Bundesliga, but for every deep/interesting thought he utters there is also another incident where he goes (too) ballisitic on the sidelines and in interviews, often even for no good reason.
I doubt people would see him in such a positive light if he was coaching a club that's more exposed in the media.

I‘d pay to listen to him and Lienen talk to each other!

We have a great manager in Adi Hutter, who has been just superb after a difficult start and a relatively successful season last season under Kovac.

Niko who?

Me too, he's great, and I applaud his loyalty to Freiburg anyway, nothing wrong with being comfortable! A also love his passion, so have no problem with him being hot headed and a bit crazy on the sidelines. That for me isn't a worthy critisism of him. Not all coaches can keep calm!

Apparently Marco Rose doesn't get on too well with Ralf Rangnick and didn't want to go to Leipzig (which is his home town too).

I'd love to see him go back to Mainz actually. But maybe that isn't a big enough step up for when he does eventually move on. He seems a very good coach, and I'd love to see him in the bundesliga soon.

And his assistant Rene Maric looks interesting too. Like I said if there is one thing Red Bull has been good is promoting and developing coaches and youth players, particularly at Salzburg. Adi Hutter also worked there and last season he won the Swiss League with Young boys by quite a big margin.

Great team goal from Dortmund, Sancho finishes with a backheel.

Edit: Ruled offside by VAR, pity. Reus's toe just an inch or so before his assist.
