Bundesliga 2018/19

Just a friendly reminder that Werder Bremen had the best defense in the Bundesliga until 2 hours ago ^^

Was going to watch Bremen-Leverkusen at five as for a neutral they're entertaining teams to watch over last few seasons.

Didn't have any funds in my account and didn't want to waste any more money this weekend so was just checking the score....40 minutes leverkusn 2-0 up, nothing to see here. 60 minutes, 2-3, o.k maybe a good one I missed. Just checked now and 2-6.

Good to see Leverkusen getting things together now after their poor start. Love the players they find every season. One of the best scouting networks in europe.

Is Bet365 correct, Langkamp has scored two own goals in last ten minutes?!

Yeah, he could be going for a hattrick...

German TV gave the 5th goal to Dragovic but it looked like a clear own goal.

They also haven't played against _any_ of the current teams in the top5 (Dortmund, Bayern, Gladbach, RBL).

Down to earth. Could have been 10 with besser finishing from Bayer.

Can't replace our best defender.

Holy shit, Herrlich wins 6-2 and in the post match interview they ask him: "we've heard your bosses were in the dressing room after the match, do you have a future at Leverkusen", that's pretty brutal.

Don’t think so. No. No (what mojo?).

What a difference 8 days make, right?

They could all challenge for a Euro League spot though...maybe one of those three could even grab that 4th CL spot if Hoffenheim/Leverkusen/Schalke remain inconsistent, but that's the best case scenario.

The mojo that Hecking had at Wolfsburg perhaps? (Although that was due to De Bruyne's breakthrough season rather than any great coaching ability really).

Anyway Dortmund and Bayern will still be top 2 I'm sure.

I know and you are correct. Was just having some fun, because of all the over-reactions after week 5 or 6. All the „Dortmund has won the league“ and „Bayern are in a deep crisis“ and in two weeks Bayern will win at Dortmund and take 1st place.

Mojo and Hecking are simply polar opposites.

I'm still hoping it'll be different this time...I know last season started off the same but Dortmund feel a bit more stable than back then and Bayern are a year older with almost no fresh blood.

Oh, Dortmund are definitely better than last year and Bayern worse. On top of that: Favre > Bosz/Stöger (lol) and Heynckes > Kovac.
Still Bayern is the better team and I see them winning at Dortmund. It‘s just what they do.

Always nice when a non-professional team can give a big team a bit of a fight in the national cup. Narrow win for Bayern.

German Cup - early matches (started 18:30)

Three matches go into overtime (all Bundesliga vs teams of 2nd or 3rd league)
Cologne - Schalke 1:1
BVB - Union Berlin 2:2
Rostock - Nürnberg 1:1

Crazy round in the cup - our scrappy 2-1 against Rödingsomething doesn't look so horrible now :D

Such a cruel result for Union...2 years ago they get a draw in Dortmund only to lose the penalty shootout and this time around they go toe to toe with them for 120 minutes only to lose on a last-minute penalty.

Leverkusen currently leads 5:0 in M'Gladbach...what a difference a week makes.

Frankfurt continue to impress. Maybe they could even finish in the top 4 if Leverkusen and Schalke continued to struggle.

Never say never in football and all that.. but Schalke aren't finishing top 4. They genuinely have the playstyle of a relegation candidate, I don't see them going on some magical run.
Speaking of which: Weinzierls stats at Stuttgart are now 0-0-3 with 0-11 goals and two away games coming up. I think he's been rather unfortunate as two matches were against Frankfurt and Dortmund, two of the most in-form teams in Europe at the moment and against Hoffenheim he lost a player after 10 minutes, but in the end results matter and with his he probably has one foot in the grave already. If he has to be sacked so early it will probably be the end of Reschke as well, leaving the club in chaos not even half a year after it looked like the club would go straight into the upper third after being promoted.

Schalke were probably the worst runner up ever in German football last season. I know they say the league table doesn't lie but it did then.

Thoroughly delighted with Frankfurt's performance and result last night. This is a really different Frankfurt team to the one Kovac left. There is a style and confidence there which certainly wasn't there last season. I know Frankfurt have had a great past five weeks but I don't think this is a one off.

The one man responsible for this is Adi Hutter. I must admit I didn't know who he was until he got the Frankfurt job (as I don't follow Swiss football). Nevertheless I went and checked the results of the Swiss League under his time as manager of Young Boys when he got the job at Eintracht. Their results were impressive, very impressive. They weren't winning games 1 nil but blowing the opposition away with 4/5 goals scored routinely. This was a team which hadn't won the Swiss league since the 1980s. It sort of reminded me of Fergie in charge of Aberdeen in Scotland in the early 1980s. Now YB were 29, 12, 13 points from the top of the Swiss league in the seasons preceding Hutter joining them. Last season they won the league by 15 points and the foundation he has left is secure with YB already 11 points clear this season.

So when initial results under Hutter at Eintracht seemed disastrous (5-0 SuperCup loss to Bayern, out of the Cup, and with just 4 points from first 5 matches) . . . I wasn't in a state of panic (although the same can't be said of all Frankfurt fans). He needed time to bring his team, ideas together. There were also signs of huge courageousness. Frankfurt lost 2-1 to Bremen at home at start of September. Losing 1 nil and down to ten men at half time. . . the second half was completely dominated by Frankfurt. Bremen won it with the last kick of the match (undeservedly). I thought to myself . . . "I'd never have a second half performance with ten men like this under Kovac".

So it will be very interesting to see where this leads to.

Schalke are out of the European spots (unless they win the Cup) in my opinion. Leverkusen are another bad run of results away from joining them. So I expect the likes of Monchengladbach, Bremen, Leipzig & Frankfurt to be fighting for the 3rd, 4th spots..

Did Delaney try to score there, cock it up and then perfectly setup Reus?

What makes the scene even more hilarious is that Reus does not just salvage one of his team mates mistakes but two. Larsens mishit pass only arrives at Sancho because of a clever feint of Reus. That is some proper captaining right there . He is really the lifeblood of our offense.

Memories of the cup final.

Felix Zwayer going to VAR to decide on a Bayern penalty.

You should have seen the pen for Schalke. With VAR. It's a joke.

Just looked at it there.

That is truly amazing.
How can a penalty be given for that with VAR?
