Bundesliga 2017/18

They have scored 18 goals in 26 games and have the following games remaining:
vs Hertha
@Stuttgart
vs Schalke
@Hoffenheim
vs Freiburg
@Wolfsburg
@Frankfurt
vs Gladbach

They are 7 points and 9 goals behind the relegation spot.
I see them getting 8 points from the games above: wins against Freiburg and Wolfsburg and draws agains Stuttgart and Hertha. Even if they manage 1 or 3 points more their chances of finishing 18th or 17th should be at 95%.

They will get 9 out of the next 5 already. This is Hamburg. Whatever sorcery it is, it works.

Frankfurt just scored the second goal in the match against Dortmund... 1-1 :D
Batshuayi immediately strikes to give Dortmund the lead again.

Fantastic goal from Batshuayi. Quick turn and a briliant finish.

Crazy added time.

It was and naturally for Frankfurt fans (like myself) very disappointing. A draw would have been a fantastic result but for the second and third Dortmund goals they seemed to raise their game effortlessly to cause Frankfurt problems. Dortmund are not the side they were a few years back but I do feel they could have put up more of a challenge to Bayern if they hadn't have brought in Peter Bosz. For Frankfurt injury time goals have been conceded v Dortmund, Schalke & Hoffenheim. . . Costing 7 points.

Best wishes to Dortmund v Salzburg on Thursday

Well, I would say that Dortmund still have the second best squad in Bundesliga, but while Stöger did a good job of steadying the ship over the winter, he's a stylistic mismatch for the squad.
Regarding Bosz: I think in theory he is the right type of coach for Dortmund, their squad and philosophy is built for someone who stubbornly wants to play dominant posession football. Obviously it's hard to defend someone who got fired before his first winter break, but in hind sight one might also ask whether or not the club should have comitted more to his style in the transfer window, because from what I've read:
Bosz was quite unhappy with the CBs, especially Sokratis, he wanted a more energetic CM than Weigl and he was unhappy with Aubameyang's contribution to their build up. Fast forward a couple of weeks and Dortmund bought a new CB who promises to be more rounded than Sokratis, they have replaced Aubameyang (obviously not entirely voluntary) with someone who is a much bigger presence during build up and a box2box midfielder seems to be the highest priority for the summer. So half a year after his sacking they might have assembled the "perfect" squad for Bosz.

Interesting thoughts there.

It's also worth pointing out that from Dortmund's first 7 matches they had chalked up 19 points. . . scoring 21 goals and conceding 2 up to the end of September. It really was as if Bayern were going to have a challenger. Bosz seemed like to have the midas touch. Then Dortmund played Real Madrid in the Champions League at home. Well I don't think I've ever seen such a display of kamikaze football against Europe's best. Dortmund were completely overrun after defending so high up the pitch against the likes of Bale & Ronaldo running amok in the space behind them. It was an easy 3-1 victory for Real which left Dortmund struggling and on their way out of the CL.
Then Dortmund's results took a nose dive in the Bundesliga thereafter until Bosz got the sack in December. It's a strange one as the results and goals were flowing but confidence just seemed to drain away.

Even during that great run to start the season their defensive record did no look sustainable.

Fans hate the monday evening matches. (Not sure if it's protest against that, though)

And that's two Bremen games in a row where they've blocked off one of the opposition defenders and scored from a corner.

German refereeing. :wenger:

Nah didn't see anything wrong with the first goal, certainly not VAR worthy. Thought defender went to hold the Bremen player and then just fell over hoping for a foul.

Entertaining game as always with Werder Bremen. Koln just left themselves too much to do with their awful start.

Bremen fans celebrating their club legend (also Bayern veteran) Claudio Pizarro, who wears Köln's jersey these days.

"Relieved" is what he would feel, i'm pretty sure.
:lol: I was thinking the exact same thing when I read the post

Another thing, what the hell is going on with Neuer. What is it about his injury that it takes forever. He was supposed to be back for the winter camp, no? This is really worrying. There's something really wrong about that story, isn't there.
I'm anticipating no World Cup for him :(

Was going to say massive blow for Germany but in fairness Ter Stegen has stepped up a level this season at Barca, been impressed with him whereas I had my doubts in previous years.

Not too shabby when your back up is Barcelona number one!

I was thinking about that the other day that Barca and City have arguably been the two best teams in Europe this season and both of their GKs probably will not start in the World Cup

Not really. It was always told that he will return late. The recent message was that he is running on the AlterG (?) - that is reducing the weight and with that the pressure on the foot. And - that they will not take any risks...

I do not know why it would be a boost if Reus can play. Yes, he was great for Germany in 12/13 - but not since then. He still had 14 matches since then - with only 2 goals and an assist. I am not so convinced that the style the German team (not that of the ConfedCup) today fits him so well as we have much more ball possession and the teams sit a lot more back against Germany since then. He will have to fight for his place with Sane and Draxler.

No idea. I understand they are being extra-careful because he had the same kind of injury before and a fit Neuer in April is more needed than a half-fit one in December.
Still there is something in the air that smells they are not telling the full story, but when do they ever.

It's not helped that he has had stop-start appearances for Germany due to being constantly injured. I would still start Reus in a heartbeat over Draxler or Sane, both aren't as complete as Reus is.

Watching the Stuttgart game, not sure who the player is but he's put in two magnificent left foot crosses from free kicks.

One straight on Gomez head that cut out the keeper perfectly for 0-1 and another just now that went straight in but was disallowed for a foul.

Dennis Aogo.

Hamburg is leading 1:0 in the first half. Mainz is 0:3 behind against Frankfurt.
So Hamburg is only 4 points behind Mainz at the moment, still possible.

Mainz needs to chance their coach or HSV will catch them.

New Hamburg keeper has made some amazing saves.

When I look at the Mainz team I don't understand why their best players aren't playing...on the bench today are Adler, Donati, Oztunali, De Blasis and Muto.

They are all better than what is in their starting 11.

Cause somebody needs to fall below Hamburg, so they can play relegation play-offs again. Mainz has been atrocious for months now. So has Wolfsburg, who handed Stuttgart Gomez, so he can save them.
