This one never tires. Sounds bitter and excuse-ridden.

Do you not think more games makes things harder?

Why do you think our fans are so pleased we're not pissing about roaring round the world having friendlies where the champs league games would be?

I hadn't give it any consideration. I had slightly more important things to worry about. My own team and David Moyes, for example. To say that I didn't want Moyes to get the job is a slight understatement.
Fair enough. I guess I'm making the unreasonable leap that you'd have an opinion on Liverpool's prospects given your proclivity to pontificate on matters Liverpool.

This derisory post from September indicates a certain perspective but I could be joining the dots wrong:

Clough was closer to Shankly than Rodgers.

I don't know, Rodgers gets a lot of stick for having a laughably inflated ego (e.g. the comparisons he drew between himself and Van Gaal) but I'm sure if Clough was around today, before his success with Derby, a lot of shit he talked about himself would be similarly laughable.

In retrospect it's easy to see Clough as a great character because he had the success to back it up, I'm sure Rodgers wouldn't be viewed a whole lot differently if he comes good on the promise he's shown and wins some trophies.

We're doing this now...the bloke who took a Liverpool side derided by everyone (EVERYONE) on here to within an inch of the title...we're calling him stupid. OK.

The guy who has been a student to Mourinho and influenced by van Gaal. The guy who made a personal aim to become a student of the game and now finds himself at one of the biggest clubs in Europe. We're calling him stupid. OK.

Do you really see any of that as evidence of intelligence?

Clough had unshakable conviction, He didn't need the approval of others. Rodgers comes across as being rather insecure, with his uncanny impersonation of a human being.

Gosh, the pop-psychologists are in.

I would say Clough is perhaps an even better example. Definitely the sort of manager that I could see a lot laughing at today, he'd probably even have a portrait of himself.
Is he feck like Clough, Clough was charismatic, won two European Cups with Forest and performed a miracle job with Derby winning Division 2 and Divison 1 the year after. Even the comparions with Shankly are laughable, he's won nothing. You guys are fecking delusional.

One lined posts with sarcasm worthy of RAWK. Any credibility Liverpool fans have gained with Barney and B20 has been knocked back with you.

Very true. Hindsight and all that.

Yep. My argument had nothing to do with trophies. If Rodgers fails badly next season, gets shitcanned and has a terrible career then yes his persona would be that of a cringeworthy middle-manager. What I'm saying was in terms of public persona (which isn't very important in judging the manager imo), a lot of the shit that Rodgers gets called out for, isn't necessarily a million miles away from the character traits of other managers. For example, the portrait, which has been the object of much laughter, is something I could easily see in Clough's house.

But what I'm arguing is pointless actually. All that I care about is the relative success that Rodgers has brought thus far, on the field, where it counts.

I'd have thought Liverpool fans in particular would be least likely to make comparisons to the likes of Shankly. That's mental.

You can't compare on potential alone surely? So far, he's got absolutely nothing to his name except a promising second season under favourable circumstances due to doing a fairly shit (mediocre at best) job in his first season. He seems to be a really good coach, and got a team overachieving last year whilst also getting the best out of a star player - it's not easy.

Honestly though you must find something slightly odd about the demented glare, the awkward stance and the desperate quotes? I'm sure he's much more natural when away from the cameras but there is something of the Norman Bates about his on screen performance.

You can laugh if you want but that's genuinely the sort of person Rodgers reminds me of. He maybe isn't. However he does come off as someone pretending because he doesn't want to be found out or questioned.

As I said, those who are secure with their ability, rarely make a lot of noise.

I don't think anyone is comparing them ability wise. Though I do think you understate his performance last season.

you think B.Rodgers realizes that Sturridge will miss a lot of games this upcoming season yet??

Possibly. You are definitely creeping me out, though. You went through my post history until August last year??
10 second search. Just found what you said a bit unlikely. I'm sat in my living room. It's not like I'm outside your house with binoculars.

*weighs up merits of finding address and sitting outside house*

;)

Considering that, according to Barney, Rodgers didn't even want Sturridge in the first place, I'm sure he's not overly bothered.

It's not even that nice.

But what about the Shankly, Clough points? Professional talkers.

End of the day, there's no single way of being successful.

Oh, we're talking about the stuff they spout in interviews?

What's brought this on.. did Rodgers come out and say 'if you finish 2nd you're nothing'

i know that already and Sturridge has already proven him wrong. But he can't possibly go in to this (CL)season with Lambert and Borini as Sturridge's backups.
i.e. Sturridge is already suffering from hamstring issues during this preseason.

Come on.. they were about to sign Remy and pulled out last minute, and were interested in Bony. We already know he's looking at strikers.

Doubt Borini will be around. I suspect a purchase is on the cards.

Rodgers has said he sees bringing in a centre forward as crucial. The Echo are saying he wants another striker. The Times are saying he'll have up to £40m to spend on one. A striker definitely will be coming in.

Steady pal, you're beginning to sound like a cross between Brenton and Stuart Hall.

you think those Balotelli rumors are real or is that just Raiola feeding the press to generate interest for Balotelli. He can only be had for 14m but I doubt he'll ever mature as a player(on or off the field). The only option i see is either Benzema or Cavani. benzema has already said he has no interest in moving there. So that leaves Cavani and Balotelli....

Rodgers also said that Balotelli will 100% not be a Liverpool player. Bony and Lacazette are the two names being touted around.

“I can categorically tell you Mario Balotelli will not be at Liverpool,” Rodgers said on the eve of Liverpool’s game against Manchester United in Miami.

“In my last press conference I was asked a question about Mario Balotelli and I talked about what a talent he was and what an excellent player he was. And the next day it was wrote as if we were signing him. I just gave my perception of him as a player. It shouldn’t be transmitted into us signing the player.”
