Brentan Rodgers

Some people deliberately say potayto others deliberately say potaato. We deliberately refer to our 5th CL title as 'that glorious night in Istanbul'. No one says 'that win in 2005'.

Rodgers is doing fine, he comes across as a bit of a bellend in interviews and that documentary last year was cringeworthy but now he's backing up the talk with results on the field. He'll never be as big a dick as Rafa anyway.

I do find some of the stuff he comes up with silly, the way he expresses himself and so on (and it's nothing to do with Liverpool, it was the same when at Swansea) but that's very subjective. He's doing his job very well, there's no two ways about it.

That's the Northern Ireland coming out in him.

As I said, that's cos he's from Northern Ireland, so he is.

I watched the first 50 minutes of Liverpool's game today and I was severely underwhelmed by some of Liverpool's players, particularly Cissokho and Aspas. It also got me thinking: how many of Rodgers' own signings can be classified as unqualified successes?

HIT
  • Coutinho
  • Sturridge
PROBABLY SHIT

  • Toure
  • Mignolet
  • Sakho
  • Allen

Coutinho isn't even all that anymore to be honest, and Toure and Mignolet have as much chance of being hits at Liverpool than Shep the Dog.

I know they've pulled a goal back before the break, but the aforementioned two have been dire. Absolutely dire.

Coutinho is one of their worst players this season, especially in last few months. Loads of talent but he is trying all by himself, probably the most selfish player in the league recently.

He's 21.

Mignolet is going through a dodgy patch, he can come through it. Toure has been a decent signing, especially on a free.

Depends where you're judging them from. If it's from the perspective of winning the league then of course they aren't ideal but there's steps you have to take before you can start bringing in top players easily. Coutinho is a very good signing from where they were sitting, Sakho looks alright. The likes of Cissokho and Aspas are inevitable, it's the risk you take.

Brenton's been pretty poor in the transfer market.

He's hardly able to rotate at all because the squad players he's bought are non-entities.

Can see a few more performances like this in 2nd half of the season. We've got to take advantage.

Is Cissokho even worse than Buttner? He's constantly in acres of space because of course the opposition don't deem him a threat but somehow the only thing he's capable of doing with all that space is pass the ball back.

Mignolet is just being Mignolet. Acrobatic shot stopper and pretty average/poor everywhere else.

He's quite possibly the worst fullback I can remember us playing this many games.

I'd have traore, degen, dossena and kromkamp all ahead of him.

Didnt he tail off after a great start to his career at inter? Maybe the same is happening now.

Has he done his post-match interview yet? What sort of penalty is it this week?

"That's a classic Duex-Number-9 Ghost Penalty. He drew the goalkeeper out to just outside area 16 during a nominal blue phase and when the keeper went in for the ball he false directed it and felt the full force of the impact and as a result, his momentum went in the opposite direction to what physics would normally dictate."

His body shape is so funny, it is impossible to imagine he can maintain composure when running with the ball.

:D

I'm expecting an answer which includes air currents and centrifugal forces.

I read he is trying too much to impress for the World Cup because he wants place in starting eleven in the Brazil team. I don't think he is doing himself any favour.

I made this exact point back in August when I was involved in a debate with some of the Scousers here. I'm not flagging this up as a 'told you so' moment, but your mention of him 'tailing off' reminded me about the argument.

Coutinho is a good player, yes.
...now Coutinho being labelled the best youngster in the league. Pure hysteria never does your lot any favours yet you never learn.

Coutinho started brightly at Inter lest we forget (He was terrific in that Inter 4-3 Gareth Bale game), yet he was bombed out soon after. It remains to be seen how motivated he'll be in the next season or two.

On the topic of Brentan's signings and how poor they've been, I made this comment in the exact same debate with said Scousers back at the beginning of August. I'm not sure what they expected from the likes of Aspas et al, but they've been utter dogshit as predicted.

Aspas and Alberto will flop, just like Borini has.

Rodgers is a bullshit merchant who's riding high on the back of Suarez's brilliance. His signings, almost to a man, have been sketchy, and it remains to be seen does he have the bollocks to drop Gerrard, which is the elephant in the room at this stage.

Why? Aston Villa vs Arsenal was a better time surely as peterstorey will be paying special attention to Lambert's assembled squad of marvellous players. He won't when we're playing them.

Even if Villa beat us, does that make Lambert a better manager than Rodgers? No, it won't even scratch the surface. So I guess we're just waiting for Pete to pipe up now. :)
'ello cunto.

Right Kraft, we can discuss our fixture list now. Firstly that vital 1 point just keeps our noses in front of Spuds and takes us one point ahead of Manutd.

In the thread on the main forum I earlier had us down drawing with Stoke and beating Villa. Same points, wrong way round. Need to beat or at worst draw with Everton next. Draw was my prediction on that thread too.

Out of the title race all the same. Top on xmas and now out of it less than 25 days later.

The title was always a ridiculous ask.

Something that applies to both Arsenal and Liverpool this year is that neither have been given any credit at all for the improvement they've made. The fact that people laugh about how they've 'dropped out' of the title race is bizarre - it's a credit to Rodgers that they're anywhere near it.

The same goes for us - we're top and I don't think I've heard it mentioned this year that we're a remarkably improved team in all areas of the pitch - it's all just doing us down and saying we won't win it.

Oh yeah none is giving credit to arsenal and Liverpool this year. None at all.

I'm saying the focus is on how neither can win the league when the reality is that just being in with a chance should be applauded.

I think in Liverpool's case that's possibly true given how they have been out of the Champions League for a long while and Rodgers only took over 2 seasons ago.

For Arsenal, competing for the league shouldn't be considered a great achievement, I mean Wenger has had a chance to build this side for a while and just spunked £40m on a world class player in the summer. Given both Chelsea and City have new managers, I think Arsenal are getting enough plaudits for just competing.

Do you really have to play that violin with every post, you wont win the league Alistair, that's why nobody is gobbling you off.

Well done you've improved a bit, but you do recognize there is a vast transition going on from teams ahead of your squad in terms of quality and the fact you have seized upon it is credit to you and Liverpool.

Don't expect any credit when your only there because everyone else is shit, see posts on Uniteds last title win for confirmation.

Last year every 'big' team was going through some transition. Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea, City.

This season, they're not. The league is actually strong at the top this year and I think it'll show in the CL too.
