Brentan Rodgers

People laugh at Rodgers' pronouncements but it is actually difficult to judge the scale of his ego. I detect a little humility as well. If he is a learner like he boasts he is, then I reckon it is a bit early in the day to discount his chances. He got Liverpool playing an enthralling hard to counter aggressive style last season. That horrible pasting at Stoke might light a fire which could come back to burn us. God help us all.

Hmm.

The difference between the two uses is context. SAF did it after the players had won the league and said he put 3 names of people who he thought would let their standards drop after having achieved success. The mindset of the players is "I'm going to make sure I don't let my standards drop and end up in one of the envelopes". Because the squad had achieved success then it prevents it looking like SAF doesn't think the players are good enough - it is to guard against complacency and foster the right attitude.

Rogers did it before his team had won anything, so the names are more likely to be those he does not feel are good enough.

The thing is, Brenty arsed it, especially with the "don't be in the envelopes" bit.

The way SAF done it was to say he had wrote the three names down(in one envelope), players who'd get complacent/kick their heels up after the first league win. He never said "don't be one of these", as that's daft, they can't change what he's already wrote down.

The idea is that the players work their arses off, in an effort to prove him wrong about them if their name is one that pops up end of season.

An old favourite. "You can only trust yourselves. No one else. *Eyes widen* You trust the supporters, causethey'rethebest...."

I thought of this when he said "they are the best..."

Also he talks about trusting family but shortly after this he left his wife

Wonder if he's interested in Joey Barton.

Liverpool will be interested in anyone that free/cheap. I can see Everton surpassing them in a few years. Ings and Milner? Tells you all you need to know, City don't see Milner as the right quality and I doubt he'd get in any of the top 4 teams now. They'll chase Ings and if he chooses Spurs they'll then turn to Bentenke. Buy cheap and hope for a miracle is Liverpool's idea of ambition.

That's such a shite speech. He looks like he's bricking it before starting, and then all of those self-help books go to waste when he just comes out with a load of uninspiring nonsense.

He's perfect for Liverpool. All talk, no substance.

So were the envelope names ever revealed?

I think he came out and said there were never any names.

I think Gerrard was one of them and he couldn't throw the captain under the bus after he'd succeeded in slipping under himself.

Also, that video I posted and the words Silver Shovel, Rodgers came up with that. Saying how he was born with a silver shovel because he had to work hard blablabla.

I must not be the only one who had a childish giggle when he said "Nice and tight, imma cum, cum in, nice and tight."

Every time I see this thread revived I expect to see he's been binned. Even the dippers seem to have turned.

Anyone else think he will walk or get the sack soon?

He'll be sacked after New Years when they have 30-33 points from 20 games when he starts to make big demands in the transfer market to salvage their season after a mediocre Summer transfer window.

I've seen speculation suggesting his job sin tuner immediate threat, but he'll have to prove to FSG that he is the man to take Liverpool forward. If can't prove he's the man to take Liverpool forward, then he might get the chop. In that case, I hope Klopp is ready for a call from FSG.

LFC assessing manager options before season review. Klopp one of them. Rodgers may v well survive but LFC seeing who's out there.

Jurgen Klopp favourite to become Liverpool manager if Brendan Rodgers is replaced

I'm probably in the minority but I still rate him as a good manager.

He had a brilliant season where they finished second. They then lost the best player in the league whilst all other teams stabilized. Granted, their transfers weren't good. Having said that, it really does seem like they couldn't attract anyone better.

He's clearly a good coach but as far as management goes he's got various serious flaws. They're the sort of flaws that he's unlikely to iron out too.

Me too. They played some stunning stuff at times last season. When they destroyed arsenal in that opening twenty minutes I was sure they were going to win the league. Surely Rodgers deserves another chance next season.

as good as they were he's had 3 years and his defence is worse than ever.....

i think he is a good coach though and the football they played last season was pretty good for the most part - awful strikers and a poor defence cost them

I hope they give him another chance because I think Klopp has that bit more about him as a person and would do well in the role

I don't know what it is with Rodgers but he'd be better saying as little as possible - maybe its the training under Mourinho but he tends to say far too much and pay for it

Agree with all of this.

He's mad, it seems you have to drink the kool aid if you wanna manage Liverpool, talk about red tinted glasses, he must practice his BS in the mirror to keep a straight face.

I respect attacking football and I think that's worth a lot. If Liverpool weren't a toxic environment I could see players wanting to be a part of a team that is willing to attack. You put two top CBs in a Rogers team and you might have something special.

Perhaps he needs a defensive specialist for an assistant coach, as they would do in American sports.

I think Red dreams is talking about the upcoming season.

Yes, but I think he is saying which team is going to finish 5th instead of in the top4 to enable such a thing to happen.
Can't see it myself Arsenal City Chelsea and United will all be better.

Can't see them making the CL anytime soon unless the current top 4 feck up big time. Pool's chance was last year when they had just had a great season and had CL football to offer and they fecked it up big time. The current top 4 will strengthen further now and the gap will only widen.
