As funny as yesterday was, it was still one of those end of season games where the players probably couldn't be arsed. Judge him on his season and give him another year, and don't let him anywhere near any transfers....and buy him some fecking chapstick.

The problem for me was that they couldn't be arsed for a few months now. We could have got fourth ahead of Man Utd if they hadn't conceded so early, and Rodgers should be responsible for that.

You get a lot of daft results on the last day. Remember Borough dicking City 8-1 a few years back? Good times! Some players have downed tools whilst some like Theo yesterday, are desperate to impress.

Liverpool don't have many great players. I think that squad is where it should be. I don't know if Rodgers or the committee are responsible for their poor transfer activity but I feel that is where most of the blame lays.

He has got Pool exactly where they should be, based on their sub standard management on and off the pitch for the last twenty years. Also based on Karma, their constant PR feckups and just generally being despicable, midtable and I hope thats where they stay.

FSG have shown great character in standing by their man. Hopefully he will be given a big transfer budget to waste on utter shite.

This was a crappy season for Liverpool, but they've had worse in modern times. They didn't have many seasons better than the last one, though. Coupled with the fact they're not likely to get a top class proven manager - only someone similar to what Rodgers was when he joined from Swansea - and it's not really much of a question.

A fresh face is always more exciting, partly because he doesn't have the stain of failure, but in reality Rodgers should stay.

With a number of very good managers on the market this summer I'm very glad it's looking like Brendan might stay.

would any manager worth his salt accept that?

all managers work under a budget. It is up to the manager to get the best out of the squad he has.
I suppose he doesn't really have much of a case once they pull out the sheet with last summer's transfers.

At the end of last season some Liverpool fans I spoke to were worried he might leave for Barcelona after winning the league a few times, I don't think they have that problem now.

He's only in his early 40s. ;)

its exactly this kind of stuff why people love to laugh at them

Rodgers seems to lose his way ...then he gets these run of results that has the supporters believing again.

I feel he will do better next season.

certainly not the idiot we like to make him out to be. He is relatively young and he will learn.

The thing is, I think he's exactly the idiot we make him out to be, but as you said, he hits a purple patch every now and again.

Shit record in the cups
Shit in Europe
Shit transfers
Shit defensive game

What's he really banking on saving him here?
He's a great technician and a wonderful human being? That he honestly believes if they hadn't got put out of Europe and lost all those league games they'd have gone on to win both? That next year will be their year? Joe Allen? The hilarity of his media comments constantly coming back to bite him in the arse? Magic?

I think he will start the season as their manager, but he won't be there come the end of it. Too many rumblings of discontent, next miss step will be his last there. I look forward to his post sacking waffle, how it's a wonderful opportunity for him to reassess and grow. How he will go from being a wonderful human being and great technician to a luminous being that's transcended mere management. The tan will have evolved to look like he's swam in Bisto and his teeth will actually glow in the dark when he takes over at Villa and tells us all about the potential of the squad and all the world class players in it after a 0-0 draw with Stoke in his first game.

I've more than had my say about Brendan but, regardless of my opinions about his abilities, it really looked to me like his team barely tried & barely cared on Sunday. If that was indeed the case, how on earth can he continue as Liverpool manager?

The fine line between this whole situation is amazing. If Gerrard hadn't slipped last season and Liverpool won the title there would be hardly any talk of Rodgers being sacked his season despite a poor campaign. Looks like he will be staying, though if Klopp or Ancelotti were available (unlikely) I would jump at it if I were Liverpool.

If everyone in Liverpool rates him who am I to argue with them? They can hype him up as the next Guardiola all they want, it will just make things funnier for us.

Because he doesn't really have them performing below par. A season of adjustment, coming close to the title and missing out on top 4, isn't sub par results given where they were when he took over. He overachieved last season and this season has been about par.

Par.

Most neutrals probably predicted the current top 4 so I wouldn't say he has underachieved as such. Although he could do with keeping his mouth shut every now and again because it seems to come back and bite him on the arse most of the time.
I think the last couple of performances was down to them not having anything to play for.

Just enjoy it.

I think their position in the league is certainly as expected, but the manner of some of their defeats are not, particularly towards the end of the season. If they had still lost to Crystal Palace & Stoke, but by the odd goal in a hard fought contest, then I doubt anyone would be laughing that much, but the manner of the defeats suggests he's lost it.

The funniest thing about Rodgers is all his quotes are coming back to haunt him.

In his first season in charge he finished 7th with 61 points and a goal difference of 28, in his third season he has finished 6th with 62 points and a goal difference of 4.

They are back to where they were in his season of adjustment, I don't think he should get sacked because of last season's success and his ability to go on a very good run of results however I would still consider this season below par.

Yes but that's not all that matters otherwise we are where we were when we had Moyes here despite spending much more in net than they have.

He has taken them very close to the title and he has at times got Liverpool to play with a lot of verve and style going forwards. Like I said, some good stuff (coaching on the ball) from him some bad stuff (transfers) from him, but overall I'd say he's done fine, and deserves more time.

I mean it's hardly a club like Madrid were talking about who can't afford to be patient and need need need trophies. Liverpool will find it hard to win trophies any time soon no matter who is in charge so why not give a young manager you've got who has times done very well a longer go?
